cheers for your views, yes split system, abs pack on n/s wing and brake master on o/s etc, 2pin blu pluged tucked in on n/s kick panel, i can only get the system to flash once and it shows code 1,then nothing, even after 2 mins etc no other flashes, turn the ignition off and reread and i get code 1.

There is no sounding from the ABS pack at all when ignition is being turned on or with engine running,i have recently bought a disc froma certain website to view through and of course is not english spec, so i am taking the test result readings with a pinch of salt, any other views greatly appreiated, cheers to all those who have read.

You always remember the outlets who look after you.

I visited Savoy one of the tyre outlets round here a few years ago.The front tyres needed balancing After the work was done the young lad who did the work said no charge sir.I think he was one of the sons of the owner.I used to buy my tyres regulary from them. There are still a lot of good people who look after the customer and make a good living....

Can anyone tell me, does the A4 diesel cabriolet have a cam belt that needs changing at 60,000 miles?

I test drove one today and when I asked if the cam belt had been changed the guy said that they don't have cam belts, but a cam chain which will last forever.... Read more

The 2005 > BDW 2.393 ltr petol Audi engine has timing chains located at the rear of the engine. That is why the OP needs to declare the engine code. Regards Peter

To try to keep a long story short!

Recently bought a 5 year old Daihatsu Charade with 25K miles. The service record was fully stamped up and the dealer assured me it had been well looked after etc etc by a local owner and fully serviced by a local, reliable, garage.

When I got it home I noticed the service schedule stated the cam belt should be changed at 60K or 5 years so it should have been changed at this years service. I checked via with the selling garage and it hadn't been. I think he should do it; needless to say he doesn't! His argument is that it is an 'optional' service item and upto the owner. I argue that despite the service stamp, it had not been fully serviced to the manufacturers schedule and therefore was not as described by implication. (I do not believe the dealer intentionally mislead me). I do feel I paid (slightly) over the top for the car but was 'sold' on the reliability of a small dealer and full 6 month warranty but I don't feel like spending more now.

Have I got a case against the dealer who sold me the car. Indeed should I worry as the car has only done 25K and cambelts don't deteriorate with age (his argument, not mine). My last conversation with him resulted in the manager (owner) agreeing to go halves; on the one hand I don't feel I should, on the other hand I don't want the hassle of small claims court! Should I just forget it and renew the belt in a couple of years or so (mileage will be low)?

Many thanks for any opinions or advice.

Can anyone tell me the law on used car warranties. I am thinking of setting up as a sole trader selling cars top the trade and public. If I retail a car to the public do I have to provide a warranty. Is there a limit on the retail selling price at which you don'y have to provide a warranty?

I am told that I must provide at least a minimum of a 3 month warranty when I sell a used car to the public as a sole trader, is this correct? Read more

The warranties are cheap because they are borderline useless and also offer you as a dealer very little protection in the first six months after the sale.

If you are selling decent quality vehicles you would be better off joining 24Cover's Dealer Club.

You pay to join but you get discounts on your Traders Insurance and it comes with legal support on disputes with customers on Sale of Goods Act Issues.

Furthermore if you pass leads to us at time of sale we will provide your customers with 7 Day Drive Away Insurance and you with a commission on any subsequent sale of motor insurance, GAP cover, breakdown cover and a decent warranty which will take them well beyond the six months you are liable to them under the Sale of Goods Act issues.

The commissions you will make are likely to far outweigh your membership fee and you will be providing your customer with a useful service that will protect you and them if the car goes wrong.

Yesterday on starting there was a great deal of vibration. It died down after a short time but a warning light I have never seen before, like a cog wheel with an exclamation mark in the middle, displayed on the rev counter dial. Drove home, about 9 or 10 miles, but the car was clearly speed limited as max obtainable speed was about 35. Problem disappeared when next started about 1 hour later. Car has a manual gearbox with no fancy extras such as Traction Control. Local garage confused and when taken to a specialist garage the software dispslayed no faults. The car handbook makes no mention of this particular warning light and a Ford 'expert' spoken to on the phone is perplexed. It seems that a 'secondary' management system is installed but what it is supposed to be doing no one seems to know. I'm sure someone out there must have had the same problem!

If this car has a diesel engine ,then this warning light relates to a problem with the diesel particulate filter system.hth

Had my new Scirocco 170TDi (manual transmission) now for just over a month and its a super amazing car. Notice after 400miles (only beause I turned the radio down) that there was a weird rotary purring type noise when depressing the clutch during acceleration. The noise only begins after a mile or so from a cold start. Apart from that the car drives perfect.

Took it into the dealers and they agreed it didn't sound normal and would look at it.... Read more
