Hi there, Can anyone offer any advice how to fight a fraudulent motor insurance claim when the insurers will not?

My wife was involved in an incident whereby the car in front reversed back to allow a car to turn right across them, they almost caused an accident but my wife stopped in time. The other driver refused to get out of their car .My wife rightly checked both cars and confirmed there was no damage. She gave her details to the other driver but the other driver refused to give her details and drove off leaving my wife in the middle of the road. Two days later we get a communication from a claims handler representing the insured who advises that their car is a write off. Having already advised our insurance company we rang them to warn them this was a bogus claim. Our insurers (Direct line) own assessor noted that there was no damage to our vehicle and that he had already seen the other car and " the damage was totally inconsistent with he claim" he also offered the opinion that it looked as if they had drove into a post and missed the 1st time and scored the side of the vehicle and then tied again.... I'm just posting b/c I solved the problem. It's the membrane in the vapourizer - it has 1 year guarantee and it lasted a little bit over one year - mechanic knew but didn't want it to go under the guarantee. So you should definately check the install date in your car.

My wife wants to buy a used Smax. How much discount do you think a main dealer could offer off one worth about £18k (1yr old) ???

What should I offer to end up with this :? Read more

Can't you get an S-Max through Ford Direct ?

Have a look at what the car supermarkets are selling them for and go for a similar price for the dealre to supply from the Natonal Ford Direct database.

You'll probably find that a brake shoe lining has broken away from the shoe itself. It's very common on Peugeot and Citroen models. The easiest way to remove the drum is with a slide hammer, but if you don't have one you'll have to keep tapping and levering the drum until it comes off.....

I am the owner of a 1999 Vauxhall Omega. The battery is continuously going flat. I have checked that the boot light is not faulty, disconnected the radio and cd player. I have started the car & disconnected the battery terminals and even checked the alternator with a amp meter and all seems well. I can sometimes start the car with no problems & then out of the blue the battery is flat. Please could you advise me what to do as I don't want to spend too much money on such an old car Read more

Here is the detailed procedure for carrying out the tests for key-on drain or parasitic current drain. Yes it's a USA video - but it's very well explained.

I'm having problems with a 1990 (G plate) VW Scirocco 1.8 8v which has a Weber carb fitted, a job done by a previous owner, and manual choke. It has only started recently but I've found that i don't need to use the manual choke on first start up. Even though no choke is being used the car will run fine 99% of the time ie not cut out, stutter, stall etc but when its been driven for around 15 mins or so the engine will start to rev high (2500-3000+) - feels like cruise control! Found that if I pull the choke out it pretty much cuts the revs and feels like the car is coughing - assuming thats due to too much fuel because of the choke being opened. Also found that slipping the clutch and revving up to pretty much redline seems to solve the problem but only temporarily. That said the car has also now decided it will do the opposite on occasions and will drop revs so when slowing down and down shifting the car will get to stalling point and it has stalled on occasions. Have also noticed that the temp gauge shows the car is only getting to around half of what it usually showed (Usually the gauge would be vertical or just slightly back from vertical but it now only goes to around half of that). The car has been serviced and a cam belt change done a few weeks ago.

Read quite a few forums and the waxstat is something that comes up most frequently but not sure if this is just for the pierberg carbs or is also relveant to the Webers.... Read more

i suspect its fitted with a webber twin choke carb and if so i would check the secondry throttle for sticking open ( a fraction)which will make it run rich and high idle and if the primary throttle has been adjusted to try and reduce the idle on the occasions the secondry butterfly shuts the car will try and stall.

I have a 96 Cordoba and the brake lights are not working. Have checked the fuses and they are ok and have also changed all the bulbs. Thought it may have been the brake light switch so replaced that but still have no brake lights.
Any ideas?

You will have to use a voltmeter and work theough the circuity to see where it fails.Start at the switch if you have a voltage there then work towards the lights if no voltage there then work towards the fuses. You will need two people or you need to jam the brake pedal on.
