Hi, was wondering if anybody knew what the correct idle rpm for this car was, as mine from cold is the same all the time 1100rpm. I thought that this was a bit to high as other diesels i have owned all seem to idle at about 800 / 900rpm when the engine has warmed up... I changed the thermostat as this had been suggested as it might of been interfering with the temperature sensor but still remains the same.... any suggestions please...... Read more

i bought a mint condition 45000 miles fsh 2003 mx5 with one owner yesterday for my dad for a christmas present.
the owner wanted £4500 but he let slip he had sold all his toys like jet ski's etc because his busness was going bad. I walked out of there only paying £3000 and having put 300 miles on it in 24 hours it is perfect with out scratches or any sighns of wear
Hi I was wondering if anyone could give some info on this subject I have a 1999 vectra 1.8 ls and was thinking of changing it to a 1996 BMW 318i se.
Would this be a good move the vectra has 105000 miles on it and the BMW has about 15000 more. I'm thinking the BMW would have better fuel economy as it is the same size engine but pulling a slightly smaller car.
What would most people do on here as I value the opinion due to the advice I received in an earlier post stopped me buying a bad rover 45!

I think you will find the 323i is in fact a 2.5 litre engine plus I thing it was introduced with a higher output engine than the normal 2.5 and will attract high insurance costs.Ask on one of the BMW forums where they have the exact output of all engines in their reference pages.

I am unconvinced by the left foot braking technique on autos. i have been driving autos for many years and have tried the left foot but i feel it is far less controlable than the right foot. A bit of research on the net has found that many people don't feel comfortable with it. In fact three American states will ban or otherwise punish anyone found doing it. any auto drivers got views on this?

I have to disagree with you regarding left foot braking in a automatic car HJ.I tried in the honda jazz we had and in my case the tendency is to brake to hard.In a car with gear change you use the right foot for braking same as in a auto.I visited various forums british and continental and nowhere is advocated left foot braking in a automatic car.I think there is a right way driving a automatic car and braking use your right foot. The advice giving using left foot for braking for the majority of drivers in a automatic car is in my opinion not safe.
i'm looking at a ford focus on autotrader, and interested if anyone has any info on the seller as its either a cracking good deal or slightly to good to be true..
