Hi I was wondering if anyone could give some info on this subject I have a 1999 vectra 1.8 ls and was thinking of changing it to a 1996 BMW 318i se.
Would this be a good move the vectra has 105000 miles on it and the BMW has about 15000 more. I'm thinking the BMW would have better fuel economy as it is the same size engine but pulling a slightly smaller car.
What would most people do on here as I value the opinion due to the advice I received in an earlier post stopped me buying a bad rover 45!

it would need a competent tech to take a look
I am unconvinced by the left foot braking technique on autos. i have been driving autos for many years and have tried the left foot but i feel it is far less controlable than the right foot. A bit of research on the net has found that many people don't feel comfortable with it. In fact three American states will ban or otherwise punish anyone found doing it. any auto drivers got views on this?

I have to disagree with you regarding left foot braking in a automatic car HJ.I tried in the honda jazz we had and in my case the tendency is to brake to hard.In a car with gear change you use the right foot for braking same as in a auto.I visited various forums british and continental and nowhere is advocated left foot braking in a automatic car.I think there is a right way driving a automatic car and braking use your right foot. The advice giving using left foot for braking for the majority of drivers in a automatic car is in my opinion not safe.
i'm looking at a ford focus on autotrader, and interested if anyone has any info on the seller as its either a cracking good deal or slightly to good to be true..

Hi there, think ive been done! just bought an immaculate 1990 granada 2.0 dohc ghia x, with a genuine 48k on clock, all backed up with FSH. So I rather surprised and upset to find white smoke and loss of coolant a week after purchasing. Think it is head gasket. Seems rather low milage for this to go though! Any ideas people.
Thanks Darren Read more
thanks for the replies, pretty sure the mileage is correct, the car is in mint condition and is backed up by fully documented history. Is amazing I agree.

I found out my XT 2001 has no idle control valve. Is that function built into the Throttle or do I not have fuel injection? I am told to replace the ICV. Now, do I replace the entire Throttle Body? Read more
It has a stepper motor and you can buy them seperatly.
I live in the Scottish west highlands, wet is the norm and have decided to invest in winter tyres. No problem there, but advice on when to change and a decent-ish tyre that will still give reasonable wet/damp road handling for the less extreme spring/summer? Thanks! Read more
You need M&S all reason tyres such as Good Year vector all seasons they work extremely well in the wet unlike pur winter tyres which are designed for snow and extremely cold conditions.
DVLA had impounded my car due to a ‘computer error'. My vehicle was S.O.R.N and on land belonging to my landlord. As I was un aware that the DVLA had removed my vehicle I contacted the police and registered it as being stolen on that very day, only to receive a letter a week later from DVLA informing me they had impounded it as it did not have a valid tax disc or declared S.O.R.N .
The DVLA admitted that they had got it wrong when I telephoned them and they realised that my vehicle was S.O.R.N and they returned it with no charge.
A week goes by and everything is fine, my vehicle was returned and I had no charges to pay so I presumed that was the end of the story. However, yet another letter arrived stating that if I did not pay a fine of £99 I will be taken to court. So once again I phone them up to sort it all out. Now it appears that I have to provide evidence to back up my, so called story, that I had got an S.O.R.N notice on my vehicle and parked my vehicle on private land, even though they willingly returned my vehicle to me without charge. Grrrr! what do i do Read more
They used to have a very good customer service department but now it is close to useless. I am afraid you have to go through their processes or they will do what they say but it can be very frustrating. The court would throw it out if it ever got there.

I think you will find the 323i is in fact a 2.5 litre engine plus I thing it was introduced with a higher output engine than the normal 2.5 and will attract high insurance costs.Ask on one of the BMW forums where they have the exact output of all engines in their reference pages.
