Three years ago we bought a new CR-V and I have to say it was a good car. The only problems were the rear diff making a “groaning” noise, this was sorted by changing the diff oil for a different spec. All four alloys started to bubble so were replaced. The worst problem was the battery going flat. This was last winter and the ECU didn’t shut down the electrics so there was a constant drain, after three days it wouldn’t even turn over. This was sorted with a software update. All the above were done without question under warranty.
It was very comfortable, even long journeys were done without any aches or pains. The economy was good, averaging over 40MPG during the 22,000 we covered.... Read more
Thanks for the feedback!
I had two of the Freelander 1s, a 1998 and a 2002, both were very good. When we were changing in 2007 I decided to try a change and go for the Honda. ...
I have a 1998 R C200 Elegance without air-conditioning. It has a split heating system for each side of the interior controled by two thumbwheels, even when both are turned to hot I'm only getting heat on one side of the car, any ideas? Read more
Thanks for that, I had a look on one of the Merc forums and there's a lot of talk of duo valves, got in the car at lunchtime and now the heater is toastie warm on both sides, typical! Thanks again, John.
Despite driving a Ford Ka (02), i still want the best possible tyres that balance road noise, longevity, wet / dry braking, handling not that bothered about price if i know i'm getting the best tyres.
I was waiting to see if there were any new tyres out this winter that balanced winter / summer conditions, but nothing new seems available in my size (165 65 13).... Read more

I replaced original bushes with new Ford ones and have only done 20000 miles since fitting them and it looks like the rear one has gone again, does anyone know if the polyurethane ones are better? Read more
Have recently bought a Micra S 1.2 manual, 46000 on clock. The problem I have is that the brake pedal seems to have a very short travel which means I have to slow down well in advance of junctions etc to save being propelled forward if I touch pedal too firmly. Am experienced driver and never had this problem before. Small company I bought from (one man band) says his mechanic is on holiday for a week and anyway he feels he would have adjusted brake if possible while doing maintenance on it, but suggest I ring him on his return, which I will do. Meanwhile as I have a lot of driving to do I wonder if anyone has any suggestions to improve this bearing in mind my husband and I are not particularly mechanically minded, or is this something I will have to live with? Must say I am not enjoying driving at the moment, and mistakenly thought this was something that would loosen with time! Thanks. Read more
Well, car has had "health check" and all is well with the brakes though they did apparently clean up behind them (I think that's what they said!). Does seem to have made a bit of a difference, and yes, it may be that I am now getting used to it too. Thanks for your comments. Am having to have something replaced on the steering wheel tracking, which will be done next week, but otherwise car is fine.
At what mileage is the Cambelt due for change???? Its a multitronic gearbox Reg Sept 2006....mileage to date 55200. Read more
I think 70K/4yrs is the going recommendation and replace the water pump while your going.
With previous cars that had cam belts, i regularly checked the condition of the belt. In most cases all was well. Only on a ford escort did the belt look really bad after only 36K....
I have a 54 reg VW Passat (bought new) that has done 60,000 miles. In the last month selection of 2nd gear (either up or down) has been greeted with a fairly loud 'crunch' and associated difficulty in locating the gear. After road testing I have been advised by both a VW main dealer and VW specialist that the synchro is likely to have gone. The likely bill for repair is likely to be well over £1200 (for a vehicle whose Guide price is about £4000).
I do not believe such a condition should arise after such a relatively low mileage. I have driven for over 40 years and never encountered any similar problems in a wide range of cars at similar mileages or greater. ... Read more
there are plenty of VW specialists out there who would gladly repair a gearbox for a lot less than £1200 but you would need to consider that if they only replace the 2nd gear hub, ( if its a fault) then they will only warrant that part!
It may be worth having the gearbox oil changed first, I suspect its mechanical fault but on the odd occasion I have had success with changing the oil, making all the difference. FWD's in particular
Hi all, I have been with my insurance company for years without making any claim. Twice I was convicted and fined with points for using my car as taxi. My recent encounter with the police did not involved any car at all. I was charged for taxi `touting`, which I vehemently denied, but nonetheless, got convicted and fined. No point on licence. On the court day for this recent alleged offence, I noticed two officers in the court room earlier. I did not think anything of it. As I was about leaving the court premises, these two officers said they were arresting me for `fraud`, `insurance fraud` That I failed to tell my insurance that I had previous motoring convictions. The officers made it known to me that they obtained their information from my current and previous insurers. Even though, I have not tried to make any claim at all. Is it right for the police to request for my insurance information from my insurance company, even though, that these two officers were not involved with the alleged touting charges and Moreso, as no car was involved...
