Hi guys, my 02 xsara 2.0 hdi 90 has recently developed a gearbox noise after a
few weeks of whining while slowing down with the gears, i've had it checked and
apparently its a gearbox diff problem, after looking for a replacement box i
have found a 1998 T reg 406 2.0 hdi box (not sure on the bhp) i'm wondering if
this will fit? any help would be great.
Cheers

You have no way of knowing the mileage of a second hand box. Best thing to do is talk to Carl of C G Cars Leicester he will tell you what's what. The engine mounts on these cars don't last and can cause noise, also the top engine mount often comes free from the body. Carl can run a full dealer diagnostic check for 25 quid too.

Well I have this car(megane ll 1.5 dci) from dec.2004 about 130.000 miles no special problems except the windows- there is 1.5 y I changed right motor(luckly it was in the guarranty period) and now my wipers does not move almost at all( some kind of slow motion) and also none of the windows are working. I'm affraid maybee could be the cabin unit... (it was a terrible smell of burned plastic - no smoke)while I'm not in the mood to pay..... wonder :( Read more

Hi I've just joined this forum and need some help please. I have recently bought the pug, I got it for a good price as it has 130K on the clock, it has an excellent service history etc. Yesterday I took the big intercooler pipe off and noticed oil inside the intercooler and the intercooler pipe. Please help I am worried I have wasted my money. I have no warning lights on dash and the car drives nice, loads of pulling power.
What could be causing this?... Read more
You also get oil mist from the crankcase ventilation system condensing on the inside of the air intake pipes and sometimes leaking out of the joints, as long as its only slight - nothing to worry about.
I have a S type Jaguar reg 54. On a long trip the car suddenly stopped. Called the AA who thought the timing chain had broken, got towed to the local Birmingham Jag dealers where it was discovered the crank was broken. The car has done 62,000 miles. The service guy asked if it had ever run low on oil, which it had. I had a regular service with the local Jag dealer where I live in Kent in Oct 08. In Nov the oil light came on so immediately contacted the jag dealer who had the car in to find that they had not fitted the sump plug properly and it was losing oil. Is it likely that this could of caused the crank to break I am not getting any response out of the local Jag dealer at the momment, the car has done 11,000 miles since the oil leak. Is it worth contacting Jaguar as I wouldn't of thought the crank should break after 62.000 miles!!
Second point Jaguar dealer wants £7,000 to fit a new replacement engine, the car is not worth much more than this, so looking at alternatives I have come across a company who re-manufactute your own engine: www.reconditioned-engines.co.uk they have quoted £1780 + vat to remove, remanufacture and replace the engine with a 5 year warranty (provided you get it serviced with them) have you ever heard of them? good or bad. Any advice would be very much appreciated thanks. Read more

I'm looking to buy a GPS type bottom end of the market nothing elaborate. The Novus Piccolo and Inforad K1 seem to be popular. I just want them to do the essential thing of alerting me in the vicinity of a fixed camera but I don't want to be constantly reminded if I drift over the speed limit in a camera free stretch and I seem to get the impression that they do that. Any help please? Read more
I once dated one! The less said about that the better - but she made a string of men (I found out later) really suffer. So charming though for the first few months...
Looking at the smallprint for the latest 'deal' from peugeot it says you put a deposit down (ok),pay a monthly fee (still ok), then optionally make a 'final' payment (still normal!) to keep the car. Trouble is you dont actually OWN the car but have to pay a yearly fee just to keep it, not own it so you cant sell it or trade it! On the face of it, this seems crazy, unless I've missed something obvious. Read more
That sounds more like a leasing plan rather than a purchase plan.
Lease rentals are, if you are a business, allowable as a revenue expense to be offset against your profits. You can offset the total of the rentals paid during your current financial year....
I hope the combined knowledge of H-J can solve this one.
The car starts and runs up to temp as normal, but after about 20 mins the engine looses all power and splutters to a halt, after waiting for it to cool, it will re-start reluctantly and limp home.... Read more
Check for a spark the next time it fails.
Then at least you'll know if you're looking for a fuel or electrical problem....
Hello! I have also posted this on the Evo forums but trying to get a varied response. Here goes... Basically, I am looking for a new car, brand new OR used, depending on value/finance options. I am specifically looking for something that your less likely to find on the road compared to a more popular car like a Fiesta. I'm looking for something more rare, and/or something new on the market, something unusual.... Read more
This thread is rather old but what the hell it's a fun one for a friday afternoon.
There is no way I would spend 12k on a car in this situation if I had only recently passed. But another interesting but sensible choice could be a Suzuki Swift....
