Hi the strangest thing happened to my Dads car tonight. The hazards came on whilst driving and couldn't be switched off. He parked up on the drive and we managed to turn them off with the hazard switch. They then came on again a few minutes later and stayed on for maybe 30-40 seconds then went off. They then came on again and off after another 30 or 40 seconds or so. They're now on permanently and I can't get them to switch off. I've tried disconnecting the hazard switch, tried removing each fuse in turn, given all the doors a good slam, tried the interior alarm override switch, new batteries in the remotes, still nothing. Worse still it only started playing up when a potential buyer for it arrived at the house. Heard it might be a central locking controller that might be damp or something similar. Any suggestions much appreciated. Read more
Hi i run a taxi company and have 2 1.8 mondeo's and they both had the same problem of now real power and jutteryness when accelerating, changed everything that you would think i.e spark plugs, ht leads, air filter, pretty much everything then the last thing we tried for a mere £35.00 second hand was the fuel pump which sorted out the problem but after big money spent on them.
Iam asking if this is a common problem on these as it dosen't state so on here or anywhere else and my friend who also has a 1.8 auto mondeo had the same problem but was told it was the gearbox so 2 new gearboxes later it was the same so she though b***** it and changed the fuel pump for peanuts and again that sorted it after big money spent again.... Hi i agree they have been good reliable well built cars but just cant trust engine diagnostics.
the blowers on the renault scenic do not appear to be working. they go on and when the car is at about 40 you can feel it but when it slows down then there is no heat - or air con if it's on.

I've no idea if it is the scenic 3 but all I can tell you is its the 2011 model 1.5 diesel DCI as you be aware Renault garages don't tell you anything, so I guess im removing the glove box lol
Hi All
Our family is expanding and we are looking for a larger car. I've always had a penchant for Japanese cars, especially Mazda and am considering the 5. I also like the look of the S-Max. We don't need 7 seats on a day to day basis, but the extra space would be very useful on the reasonably frequent trips with extended family and friends.... Read more
I know that I'm coming to this discussion late but the S-Max is a MUCH bigger car than either the 5 or Verso.
I loved my S-Max and wouldn;t hesitate to recommend it but it will eat front tyres. 12k is the norm for fronts, I managed 15k as I was a heavy motorway user at the time....
I wonder if anyone in the forum has had experience of the maintenance costs for high mileage Toyota Celica? I have owned a 2005 (55) Celica since August 2007 and there was 63k miles on the clock when I bought it. I am doing about 11k a year and there is now just under 90k on it. When I had the annual service done in March 2008 at the local Toyota dealer it needed the cam belt done and two new front tyres, This plus the service came to around £620. This year I had it serviced at the same dealer. The service cost £168 but I was advised that it needed new discs and pads all round. To save a bit on the cost I had the work done by a local independent but it was still a big bill. I was planning to keep the car for about another 10 to 12 months and I wondered if anybody can give me a guess on the probability of getting another big bill in that period?

My Celica isn't particularly high mileage for it's age at 70,000miles on a 51 plate, but it has been super reliable. I have owned the car for 2.5 years and have kept it regularly serviced including oil chages every 6k by yours truly using Toyoata filters etc.
It's a fantastic car with good engine (140) bhp and six speed gearbox. The leather interior is comfy yet practicle and the bodywork is corrosion free. The only thing I had to do was get the original alloys refurbed as they were looking pretty rough. I hope my future cars are as rellable!!...
I own a old Rover 600 and pay £205 per year in Vehcile Excise Duty. So please tell me why I should pay yet owners of pre-1973 made marques such as Alvis, Ferrari, Aston Martin, etc., etc. are exempt from this duty? These aren't "old bangers" any more like the Triumph Vitesse I owned as a student in the 1980s but now cosseted "boy's toys" costing sometimes tens of thousands of pounds. Not everyday cheap transport for the less well off but pythings for the well heeled! In fact some 307,000 vehvicles are currently exempt from vehicle excise duty under this "historic vehicle" exemption. Assuming that they only had an engine capacity of less than 1549cc that is some £30 million per annum of money lost to the country. Now I know some will say they are preserving some sort of heritage. Yet I don't get an exemption from paying Council Tax if my house is of pre-1973 date! Nor an exemption from the cost of my Shot Gun Certificate despite having it for my late father's gun made in 1919. So why for cars? These aren't old beat up Ford, Nissan or Peugot cars but large "toys" for those with the money to afford a £50,000 Jaguar E-Type or a £120,000 Mulliner Bentley? Hardly the sort of pockets that "need" a VED exemption? I can understand the logic that when this was introduced there was no "online" taxation, no requirement for "continuous taxtion" and no such thing as a SORN declaration. Duty was lower too so perhaps it wasn't cost effective to have a vehicle taxed for just three months a year when it was used on the public highway? But now with VED at the level it is and the massive administrative savings enabled by "online" taxation isn't it time to think again? Quite frankly I think it scandalous that this exemption continues. So I'm writing to my MP this week asking him to pass on my letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Or do wea all agree that the student nurse with her six year old Vauxhall should pay to use the road whilst the "banker" in his chauffeur diven Rolls Royce pays nothing in VED? Read more
Are you also going to rant about 'subsidising' all those brand new, zero VED cars like C1s et al? These are close to £10k, so their owners hardly need any help do they, lol.
Personally, I'm in the "put it on fuel" camp.
Hi all - possted this in the technical area as well - I'm under a bit of pressure for time so I hope you don't mind me duplicating it here as I feel it may require legal sorting out and I need some good advice quickly.
I purchased a second hand Mazda 6 2.0 TS Diesel in Sept 08. It had around 20000 miles on it and a full service history (I was shown receipts to prove it although I now believe it to be non Mazda specialists but genuine Mazda parts) I was really happy and chuffed as it was a fantastic car - it never missed a beat. ... Hi all, I do hope someone can help me as I feel like I'm about to be shafted by Mazda.
I got the car serviced on 25000 miles at a Mazda dealer and I had the oil changed with genuine parts at 37000 miles. On Saturday past I was driving home with my 1 year old daughter in the car when the car started revving erratically between 5/6000. White smoke came billowing out of the exhaust and I pulled over and got my daughter out of the car. i know I should have stalled it, but my main concern was my daughter - I thought the thing was going to explode.... I have seen a website devoted to some of these problems with Mazdas( mostly but not always diesels), including one very dangerous incident where one overrevved and the car accelerated to 100 mph on an A road before slowing down just before a roundabout. I always considered Mazdas to be a slightly cheaper version of a Honda but with the same quality and was considering buying a 3 until I heard about these horror stories. Also I did hear of a friend whose Mazda 5's engine blew up at 40,000 miles. It makes you wonder if Mazda have become complacent and decided to cut corners to sell more cars.
Hi, I have got as some on here know at 51 reg 1.6 Zafira. For the past week I have had little drops of water from the radiator on the bottom right driverside (offside) from the radiator. Today it has now come out in a larger quanity.
Anyway, I have put in some Radweld and it seems to have cured it, however my qustion is, should I now leave it or get a new radiator? The new radiator is £43, obviously I would fit myself, but just wondering on the thoughts of radweld. I have notice though that since putting the radweld in I have done about 25 miles today and tye car is getting to operating temperature quicker, dont know if it is just me and its down to the hot weather but that what it seems.... Well, I had a minor leak from the bottom of the radiator on a Ford Probe 2.5 about 6 or 7 years ago. I just put the radweld in and it stopped the leak, and the car has required no further attention to this day, so it does work.
However, if you've ever looked at the deposits in water passages in an engine where such a product has been used, you'll think about it very carefully. I don't think I'd chance it again, better fix it properly with a new £100 radiator than chance a new engine a year later.
Does anyone have experience of running a Picasso as well a Verso or a CRV Mk2 or an X-trail? I'm planning on trading in my Picasso for one of the above.
How does the space in the boot compare? Which is the most spacious for three car seats? (assuming the Verso's boot is full and the extra two aren't being used).... Read more
No worries - for some reason your post appeared twice and I removed one of them. Sorry - the software rather inflexibly assumes that anything removed is offensive.
I have all the same problems as stated above, but with a 2002 Audi A4 Quattro 3.0, does anyone know what part I would need to fix this? My driver side floor got wet due to sunroof leakage and I think maybe something in the floor got damaged, PLEASE HELP ME! :(
