I have just purchased a 2002 x type. The only thing that does not work is the parking radar.I get the continuous beep, which according to the manual, means its not working.Does anyone know how to diagnose where the fault lies.Thankyou for looking. Read more
I have just had both front wheel bearings replaced to cure what was taken as an obvious bearing problem. the noise continues, it sounds like a worn bearing but i am now advised that it may be a problem with the drive shaft. the drive shaft has now been removed for testing and no problem has been found. Drive shaft has been replaced but still the noise continues. Mechanic suggests waiting untill noise becomes more accute and then possiblt replacing drive shaft.
is anyone familiar with this issue Read more
These Accords are known for the rear brake pads to stick in the calipers, which means that they drag on the discs. This may be the burning smell that you've noticed.

Hi there,
I noticed a few days ago that my ABS warning light did not light up at key-on. I've checked all the relevant fuses and they are fine.... Read more
I slammed the brakes on hard at 30 (without locking up but then again it didn't particularly feel like the ABS was kicking in.)
I know that it has worked since the light has stopped working, though....
A couple of times whilst cruising at 60mph for a while I put my foot down to overtake and the engine hiccuped momentarily losing power before continuing. Then recently the same thing happened but the loss of power lasted longer causing me to head for the hard-shoulder.The dash said to switch off engine which I did and moments later I switched the engine on again and everything was ok.I've tried replicating this incident but to no avail the car works fine. This could be the EGR valve sticking or in fact the turbo vanes. You should get the diag codes read to see if there any reported error codes. Regards Peter
My sister is due to receive £ 1500 for a Citroen that was stolen and burned out a month ago and is interested in a Focus size hatchback. I advised her against another petrol Xsara as they are unreliable and expensive to maintain. Her main choices would be a Ford Focus, Peugeot 307( I am advising her that pre 55 plate ones can be very troublesome) and a Vauxhall Astra. My advice to her would be the Focus and Astra are decent enough cars, but maybe to go for an old shape Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla as these are generally very reliable. What plate model of these would she be able to buy as she's not bothered about engine size or the best equipped one? Read more
I have gone to various car battery sites and had different results for a replacement battery I have looked at the Varta E44 what do you all think. Read more
PS The Varta E44 has a higher electrical spec (77Ah, 780CCA) but is also equivalent to a 096 spec without the R and I think you would struggle to get the leads on. Pity Varta do not seem to do an R version of the E44.
Is there a cost effective work around to regas a R12 system now that this substance appears to be outlawed? I have varying responses from garages, air con specialists and the net. The answers seem to depend more on what product they offer than my best interests. Answers vary from new seals, evaporator, condenser, hoses, compressor, to (net) 'just put R134a in and accept more frequent regassing'.
Any factual info appreciated. Read more
I have converted many old cars, including Mercs,to 134a.The best option is to replace the filter/drier unit and charge the system with around 10% less 134 than R12.It is also important to use a pao universal oil in the system that is compatible with the existing mineral oil.Lastly the cooling system needs to be in good order because the a/c system with 134a runs at slightly higher pressure. So make sure the viscous engine driven fan is ok and the auxilliary electric cooling fan is working ok.hth
Being financially restrained, but no through choice, 18 months ago I bought a 6 year old Citroen Xsara HDI110, one owner, low mileage. It has just this week broken down (again) with no warning and left me stranded on the A14.
The fault this time is electrical necessitating a repair to the ECU - earth pin on number one cylinder injector.... Read more
If you like your Ignis but want something more lively, think seriously about a Suzuki Swift (1.3 or 1.5). My elder daughter is on her fourth Toyota Yaris 1.3 but last time liked the Swift a lot: buying new however the PCP deal on another Yaris was cheaper than a Swift despite the list price being higher. But you should get a good newish one for £6k.
Greetings from the Slow Lane.
I recently received a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) in connection with the London Congestion Charge, but for a car that I had sold in part exchange more than 18 months ago. No problem. I just filled in the representation and sent it away with all the supporting documents to show that I am no longer the registered keeper. Yesterday I received a letter back telling me of the outcome of my representation.... Read more
Dwight has outlined the situation correctly. The proviso is there so if they subsequently discovered you were the keeper of the vehicle at the time of the offence then they could re-enact the penalty.
A number of people register the vehicles to names and addresses other than their own to avoid paying parking penalties etc.

I assume your system is not radar but ultrasonic. If you have good hearing you can listen close up to each sensor and you can hear a clicking noise. If one sensor had failed the unit indeed gives a continuous beep. There are Electro magnetic systems coming in but not available in 2002. Regards Peter
