Ladies and Gents,

I have a 1996 1.6 Mk3 Golf CL that when the engine is cold the idle is fine (about 1200 RPM), but when the engine warms up to normal temperature the idle is hunting between 600 - 800 RPM. Normally when the engine is warm the idle is steady at about 650 RPM.... Read more

Looks like I'm going to have to wait a day or two for a new gasket....

I have recently bought a Focus 2.0TDCi 06 plates, 92000 miles and last service at 88000.

Have discovered that whilst accelerating in 4th,5th gear and sometimes 3rd, on reaching 2200rpm i get a strange faint high pitched whirring with a very slight dip in revs down to 2000rpm with a slight loss in power, almost unnoticable but there all the same. It normally gets better and carries on accelerating again but in 5th gear it can happen again at about 2400revs dipping to 2200 and carrying on as normal. I then noticed that it also happens on the motorway in 6th gear and always at 2200-2600 revs. No warning lights come on and also there are no other probs i can see or hear with the car. ... Hi All on this forum ....
Can anyone out there help me with a problem on my daughters 04' Micra . She is still a learner and last Sunday evening i was with her . She slowed down for traffic lights and lo and behold no brakes. She went into back of car in front , not much damage but i limped the 2 mile journey home with some braking. We got the car checked out and the brakes are back to normal again. No fluid loss or leakage could be found , rear wheel cylinders are bone dry. They put it on rolling road and perfect. Because of what happened and no fault being found my daughter is reluctant to use the car. Has anyone any idea as to what could have caused the failure in the first place. Its a dilemna for me as i dont know where to turn next.

Many thanks to anyone who could help . Read more

Brake fluid from new is recomended to be changed at 2 years so yours probably is overdue, a simple flush may do the trick.

There should be a specific angle which you can check parked on a perfectly flat surface with the aid of an adjustable spirit level calibrated in degrees or an ordinary one and a bit of calculation.

My Fusion has reached 21,000 trouble-free miles but the original Hankook tyres are approaching replacement. Any advice about quiet-running replacements as I think the Hankooks are very noisy on the poorly-maintained secondary roads which are now standard in the Highlands?
Many thanks.. Read more

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Try doing a seach for "Goodyear Excellence", that will show up some other entries around the forum.

The link below provides details about Goodyear Excellence tyre :...

Hi,
I was planning to pick up a second hand BMW 320i yesterday (2006 plate, done 52K miles) but on starting and revving the engine felt a distinct vibration. The same thing happend on shutting off the ignition. As its a petrol engine I am a bit worried about the state of the engine as petrol engines generally dont vibrate so much.Could it be because of some fault, worn part or a bad engine?
Kindly advise. Read more

My car was parked in our private car park (in my allocated space outside my flat). The car park is owned by the people who own the flats.

A young driver (who usually races around I might add) pulled into the car park to quickly and lost control of his vehicle. He clipped the front of my car. I've had the damage assessed and I need a new complete front bumber (cost about £600).... Read more

I have a 535d and when driving I notice what I can only describe as a flat spot when I start to accelerate, when I took the car to BMW the engineer who drove the car didn't notice it but under their diagnostics they found one injector not working properly and so they replaced it. everything seemed ok then soon the problem re-occured back on diags this time all injectors get replaced. Great. all ok for about 3 months now the problem is back. My question/ concern is that there is something causing the injectors to fail and I'm now half way through my BMW used car warranty and I want this resolved before it costs me the earth, any advice? Had this with mine too - used to eventually start - once it is started you can disconnect the wires from the back of the keypad and it will start and stop on the key.

Peugeot dealers deny that the device can be bypassed but a local auto electrician should be able to if it really won't start....
