Once in a blue moon (ie every 2-3 months or so) my Clio automatic (O2 reg) won't start! When I turn the key I hear a relay clicking, but no starter motor action. The dashboard lights stay lit, but the radio/central console lights go out. Then after a couple of days or so, when I try to start it, it goes okay and it'll be okay for weeks and even several months. On a couple of occasions we've rolled the car a couple of feet down the drive slope and once I even rocked it in frustration and voila it's started. So It seems like a dodgy connection which will be a pain to track down (is there a sensor on the automatic gear lever???). Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Read more

Hi
What was the out coime as i have the same problem ? plus how much was it to fix ?...
I am thinking of buying a speed camera detector but they will not work through an Athermic windscreen.
Does the Note have such a windscreen? Read more
I 'm not sure ...don't think so. BUT I have the Ntec version with the built in SatNav. So I doubt that it is.
The Note easily accepts a list of 'points of interest' that happen to be speed camera's. So no need for a GPS based detector... it's built in! In the manual but just download a csv file of them from the net and put into a certain directory you create on a USB memory stick. Then just whack the stick into the built in memory port in the car, push a few buttons...jobs done! Easiest update I have ever done. It's all detailed in the handbook....

Diesel cars will always work out cheaper than Petrol Cars, because fuel is so expensive and because they use so much less of it than Petrol Cars do.
I used to have a 2003 Mazda 2 1.4D TS2, with 180000 miles on the clock, which was capable of 70mpg and averaged over 50mpg round town, irrespective of how hard I drove it. No Petrol car in existance could beat it for economy. I only paid £1900 for it, when it was worth £3500, so depreciation has never been an issue and I have been saving money on fuel since the day I bought it. Sadly it could only tow a 750kg braked trailer legally and my boat+trailer combo weighs over 900kg so I started looking for a replacement car with a greater towing capacity. I put it on the Swapz website and eventually ended up doing a direct swap for a white 52 plate Zafira 2.0 DTi with only 87000 miles on the clock, with no cash changing hands at all. OK, it cannot match the little Mazda for economy but its still a lot cheaper to run than any Petrol powered Zafira, and it seems to average at least 50mpg, even when I get a heavy foot. I bought five Vectra 15" starfish alloys for it for £60 on ebay to replace the heavier steel rims it came with and it has made a noticable difference when driving it...The steering is slightly lighter and it rides and handles even better than before....
Do any of the BRs have views on the evolution of the Lineartronic CVT and its practicality ? The salesman told me that Subaru were the first to make a successful steel chain / belt CVT (what's in a word). I remember the successful DAF Transmatic that was applied to a racing car to prove a point before it was retired because of 'fashion'.
Does the engine of the Legacy run straight away at optimum speed until the car catches up as did the DAF ? Read more
"It's not successful until it has been around 10 years with daily abuse and no inherent design faults found."
If that was the case then what would be successful ?...
I noticed they were selling SS hose clips the other day. Narrower and seemingly of thinner metal though, than the galvanized type.
It`s a while since I saw actual Jubilee brand clips - it might have been in the tool shop in Meadowhall shopping centre.... Read more
Yeah ;-) We are always there as it opens, then leave about 11am before it gets busy.
Piggy, I`m not sure Halfords stainless are the best option - they are narrower and thinner metal than the Halfords galvanised type - which in turn SEEM less robust than the Jubilee brand....
