My daughter has a Fiesta Zetec Climate reg 06 with 5 spoke alloys. The usually reliable tyre fitter says all 4 wheels are buckled!

What do I do? I am very reluctant to replace as I am told these wheels are weak. Has anyone experience of this problem or suggestions for replacement? Read more

Hi there,

I currently have a 2.2 Diesel Espace Auto. I recently used the manual gear selection and was amazed to find that there are five gears there. Fourth and fifth gears appear to be the same though, both running the car at 2000 rpm.... Read more

hi -hope someone can help

My Son age 29yrs was hit by a truck in his car last December whilst stationary. The truck had no offside wing mirror and was trying to change lanes on the North Circular road. The impact was great enough to send my Son's car into another car in the lane next to him. His car was deemed a rightoff by Esure and they payed up on this, a reasonable amount. He has now had his insurance renewal, and the premium is £2000, when it should be about £650. He has been chasing Esure to recoup his excess. Now after phoning them they say the other insurance company has not admitted liability, they are only just writing to them. This is nearly six months ago, he has no claims protecton and legal protection. He cannot afford that premium and just wants it sorted. The police were not involved as no injury and the truck driver drove off - he has the registration number. What should be his next step? They say the premium is this high due to a 'fault' claim, even though he has protection.... Read more

In those circumstances he should be pressing his insurer to issue proceedings for the recovery of their loss - ie what they have already paid out on the vehicle. That is a more substantial amount and is likely to receive a response and will not invlve him in further costs.

You know how it is (if you`re up for a money saving bodge, like me) something breaks - you bodge it up and hope it will hold together at least until you finish the job. With luck, a little longer, perhaps.

I was oiling the chain on a bike - put it on a shelf - it fell off and broke the handle off. I`d only bought it a few weeks back - so found a bit of malleable sc*** and twisted it around the two parts of the handle with a mole wrench.... Read more

No one ever done a bodge that lasted longer than a week, then? ;-)

Hi I have had someone drive into my car and damage the Front drivers door pretty badly. To the point it is completely bent... of course they did not stop and drove off leaving the lovely surprise for me to find.

I am now trying to debate whether I should claim via insurance. I know I need a new door skin which will include a paint job and the door refitting.... Read more

Last november my car was stolen. It was recovered abandoned a few days later and written off. As far as I know they have not caught whoever stole the car. Insurance company paid up and I lost 2 years no claims bonus, moving from 5 to 3.

Today, 6 months later, I received a letter saying a claim is being made against me. I phoned up the insurance co and was told my car hit a parked car on the day it was recovered. So the thief crashed the car and fled. Ins co are saying it could/would go down as a further fault claim as it was my car that caused the damage even though I wasn't driving it at the time. So I will lose a further 2 years no claims. I am slightly annoyed because 1) they (insur co and third party) have notified me now, 6 months later which is just within the time limit I think and 2) it be will be a fault claim even though its wasn't my fault.... Sorry to hear of the predicament. I have no advice to offer other than perhaps ring a few insurance companies directly and given them a 'hypothetical' scenario and see what they say. It's not as if you can contact the ombudsman at this stage because you have to have a case against the insurers of maladministration or similar.

I'm in two minds over the whole situation. Half of me thinks 'what if I was the driver whose car was hit by yours'. I'd like to think I would be put back into the position I was before my car was hit regardless of how it arose. After all that's what insurance is for....

Hi all, me again with another exciting chapter in the life of my beloved workhorse 306.

In a nutshell, I bought a replacement rear axle and subframe from an on-line breakers service. It arrived, didn't have the fitments for ABS so I bought another from somewhere else. Now i tried to sell the 1st axle and the gentleman who arrived to collect it says it's for a phase 2 306 rather than a phase 1 (which is what i originally requested from the online breakers)...
