Hello,
I have a 2004 '04' Volvo S60 T5, one of the fans started to make a strange noise a little time ago, I have taken the car to a local garage - a member of the good garage scheme, they had their auto electrician take a look at the car. The findings were that there is a fault on the radiator cooling fan assembly (fan modual). This part can only be purchased from Volvo at a cost of £244.50 + VAT + Labour.
I know that earlier models had a product recall for a very similar reason, and was wondering if there have been any other recalls to the above model? I did phone Volvo to ask but they did not get back to me.
Any advise you can provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks

What sort of mileage/roads do you use on a regular basis? Hybrids aren't as economical as the manufacturers let on, so a small diesel may make more sense.
Hello backroomers
I had a question that might seem very basic. Anyway, I will ask it. When replacing a cambelt on a vehicle, does it matter exactly where it is placed in conjunction with the pulleys etc. I have sometimes seen that these aren't centred for example. Does this really matter.... Read more
The position of the pulley/sprockets is quite specific and usually the important pulley are marked and align with markings on the engine/timing cover. Some cars use a cam locking kit to acheive correct alignment and stop the cams from moving when the old belt is removed. Regards Peter
Hi guys and Gals
I have a pug 406 diesel 1999, it has been sat for a while and starts first time, idles forever on the drive, once you take it on a run (over about 5 miles) and turn off the engine, it will not start again for about 30 minutes, really odd, any ideas?? Read more
Moved to Technical as I think you'll get more replies. I don't think Peugeot did a 2.9: could it be a 1.9 or 2.0?
I need a new exhaust for my car but i was wondering if anyone knew how much this would set me back? Does any one know how much it is by itself as well as fitted please??

On Friday 21st May I took delivery of my new Skoda Yeti.
By coincidence the car was seen by a VW trained mechanic who pointed out to me a problem with the paint work, initially in the boot area, which he described as "fallout" possibly from industrial or railway contamination whilst the car was transported across Europe.
I took the car back to the dealer today when the effect on the Red non metallic paint work appeared to be patchy but on all body panels including the roof.
The car has been in strong sunlight for all three days but the problem appears to have grown today.
It is noticeably affecting all surfaces and now showing this afternoon as "sparkly spots", which can just be felt, over virtually the whole car.
The dealer has yet to confirm what treatment will be carried out to the paint work but appears to be suggesting the use of Traffic Film Remover by an approved VW body shop.
My concern is
1. whether this will cure the problem
2. whether there is a better treatment and if so what
3. whether the paint will by now be so badly damaged that the problem cannot be cured --- I intend to keep the car for up to 10 years so I have long term concerns.
Any advice will be much appreciated -- Thanks Read more
There is another potential issue - why did the dealer present the car to you when it wasnt looking right? After all, they cleaned and inspected and PDI'd the car. Can you trust them?
I bet they would have spotted the paint issues if they were buying the car from you........
Just had the delightful Cheshire Road Police take time out from their busy schedule of keeping crime at bay, to measure my rear number plate.
Of course I was only too happy to break a nice sunny day's ride to help them with this.
This is the same number plate that was on the bike when I got it, and with which the bike has passed 12 successive MOT tests.
The helpful officer tried to assert the lettering was 2mm too narrow, until I suggested that that holding the ruler steady while measuring would be a useful idea.
Apparently it's very important that we all have number-plate lettering the correct size, so that the NPR cameras can work properly.
I assured them I was glad to be able to keep Cheshire Road Policing's numberplate measuring teams in gainful employment, especially on a sunny Sunday when I'm sure even the most hardened criminals want to take time off, kick back and have a beer and a barbecue.
From this, I can only conclude that the cameras aren't working properly. So everyone make sure to measure their numberplates really really carefully, hmmm? Don't want to risk your registration not being picked up by the cameras.
A quick Google when I got home found this lovely document: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2001/20010561.htm#14 ... Read more
That's right -- it's possible to take a minor, NSL (60mph) road which cuts around a mile off the main-road distance between the first two camera gantries.
So in theory, a vehicle adhering to the posted speed limits AND taking the short-cut, could be done for exceeding the 50mph average speed limit between the camera gantries.
It would certainly make an interesting test-case if someone took it to court.
Hi,
I'm desperate for advice and have been unable to find a straight answer anywhere else.
I will soon be moving to Docklands to live with my girlfriend who is at University in E3. I work in North Essex and commute there by car. I have been living in E3 Bow, and the commute is roughly an hour to work in my Leon and is usually free of traffic due to all of it being on the other side of the motorway.
I recently tried a test journey and set off from work to my flat in docklands, taking the A120, M11, A12 and finally Eastferry road. Once I got past my usual turnoff at old ford A12, traffic became biblically congested and I ground to a halt. It took me at least 45 minutes to get from there to the flat. I presume this traffic is down to the blackwall tunnel.
As I have no desire to travel through the blackwall tunnell, must I be subject to such traffic jams? I have thought about turning off earlier and finding my way through mile end and down Burdett road, but would the traffic be as bad there?
My situation is unusual as I am travelling out of London when everyone is travelling in and vice versa, however the blackwall tunnell traffic seems to take affect. Am I doomed? Any advice?

Had this with mine too - used to eventually start - once it is started you can disconnect the wires from the back of the keypad and it will start and stop on the key.
Peugeot dealers deny that the device can be bypassed but a local auto electrician should be able to if it really won't start....
