general question - Cambelt replacement - Gregory II

Hello backroomers

I had a question that might seem very basic. Anyway, I will ask it. When replacing a cambelt on a vehicle, does it matter exactly where it is placed in conjunction with the pulleys etc. I have sometimes seen that these aren't centred for example. Does this really matter.

I have read through instructions in manuals, but they don't mention this part of the task as I assume you would note the position as it is removed.

Your thoughts will be very much appreciated.

Greg

They can run slightly off centre, it depends largely on the alignment/condition of idlers and tensioners. They will adopt there own running position irrespective of where you put them.

general question - Cambelt replacement - Peter D

The position of the pulley/sprockets is quite specific and usually the important pulley are marked and align with markings on the engine/timing cover. Some cars use a cam locking kit to acheive correct alignment and stop the cams from moving when the old belt is removed. Regards Peter
