Hello,
When I tried to lock the car the other day it did the locking-then-unlocking-itself thing for the first time. After opening and closing several doors I managed to get the car to lock.... Read more
Two magnificent four wheel drives pulled alongside as I waited to enter the M1. The drivers (both small peas in big drums) sneared at each other from their high cabs - not noticing my small van sandwiched between them.
(Yes, I had caught the end of the school run again by setting off too early)... Read more
The engine warning light came on - knowing the fault could be quite trivial, I checked the lights and sure enough I found a blown brake-light bulb.
I changed the bulb (cost £1) but the (expletive deleted) warning light stayed on. Rang the indy VW specialist who service the car, they said 'that happens sometimes' and that they'd need to plug in the diagnostics computer to clear it, which they did for £22+VAT.... Read more
Renault main dealer is pushing a coolant and brake fluid special offer for £50 each. My daughter's 2006 Clio 1.4 petrol has 13K on the clock and is in for the Renault £199 "major" service tomorrow - is it worth getting the collant and brake fluid changed ? Read more
Hi there, what do you know about "charcoal barriers". I have just replaced my Toyota air filter with a knfilter.. and yes I do believe they are better.. in the fitting instructions mention is made of a "charcoal barrier" that is fitted to some cars re the emission. Now the old filter has attached to the usual paper element a blue/white gauze type material. My question is simply this ;- is this the "charcoal barrier" if so then appartently I must refit it.. Thanks for you (anticipated) help.

See my reply to your duplicate post in Discussion. Also had a thought, if the sticking is intermittent, it could be a glitch in the control system that operates the actuator ( though this may be just a diaphragm connected to manifold boost pressure, working against a spring and not electronically controlled.)
My year 2000 Rover 200 IE 1.4 16v has recently started to "judder" when accelerating in first and second gear. My first thought was that the problem was the clutch, but the judders are very quick and there is no revving of the engine.
It feels like the car is losing power and gaining it again in a quick cycle for just 1 or 2 seconds whilst accelerating. Accelerating from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th gear seems to be OK.... Read more

Range Rover sport is what you need with blacked out windows and also in black for the school run and why not drive the 4x4 to pick the kids maybe they need a 7 seater or just like some room to move rather than a cramped old van.
