As a Mazda owner new to this Diesel problem since I bought my Mazda 6 in January 2010, I seem to have fallen in at the deep end. I haven't had the oil level problem (yet) maybe bacause of the amount of motorway driving I do. But I have had almost all of the other problems I have read about on this site, to do with DPF.
I have written to Mazda UK and am not confident - given what I have read in this forum - it will get me anywhere.
I have written to the BBC Watchdog programme.... Read more
Any suggestions, please, for a good / inexpensive weed killer now that sodium chlorate is no longer available in the shops.
Thanks.... Read more
To update my earlier post, sodium chlorate is still available in french supermarkets.
My windscreen wipers stop in the vertical position. They work fine apart from they stop in the wrong place. I know you can move them to the 'service' position when the engine is off but the key still in and have used this to reset them down but the minute I use them again they end up stopping in the vertical position when I switch them off-any ideas? If Dynamic Dave thinks this website is now a mess, then it is a mess. I used to visit several times a day but I really can't be bothered that often now.
My golf intermittantly goes into limp home mode when acelerating. Garage tells me it's a faulty turbo and is quite common . They suggest remapping the ecu to accept the excess boost fault rather than replace turbo. I'm worried that as fault is still actually there some damage may occur. Can anyone advise? Read more

Hi, where are you located? I offer a mobile remapping service and specilaise in All VAG cars (VW/Audi, Seat & Skoda) although I can remapp almost any vehicle. I also have the up to date Vagcom (VCDS 908.2) which is the main dealer software used by dealers for diagnostics....
is there an issue with the fuel system?, my56 reg car has what seems like fuel pump failure with only 79,000 miles first signs were longer turnover on startup but not in mornings and only spasmodicly, then ihad some start failures which rac thought was sticky fuel pump in tank, later found there is no fuel pump in tank, now has no apparent fuel through system,so fuel pump? but my mechanic has a nagging doubt about replacing the whole thing at a replacement price of £700 pounds + can anybody advise my hopeful thanks in advance Read more

Did you manage to get anywhere with the galaxy fuel issues in the end? Mine has just failed to start twice in two weeks. At first it was like a airlock. Now its a week at the a garage and no solution in sight. Any pointers?...
I was lucky enough to get a new car almost 3 weeks ago - a beautiful Jaguar XF 3.0D Premium Luxury.
I had an S Type a few years back but the XF is nothing like the Jags of old. This is pure class and modern technology which actually works. I tried a number of different cars before chosing the Jag. Audi A5 Sportsback, Merc C250 and BMW 330D but the Jag won the day easily.... Read more
Just read through this with interest as I fancy a diesel Jag then I spotted the dates. Amused that the OP considered the engine run in after 3 weeks - most diesels I have owned have finally felt "run-in" at 20k to 50k miles.
A friend of mine has an old Toyota Previa (the original model) which has finally become uneconomic to repair (for MOT) and with honours can hang up its boots.....
He asked me what to get, I'm not sure of the budget but assume it's not high. My thoughts are:... Read more
Do you need 7 seats ?
Many people overlook the FRV from Honda (now discontinued ast of end '09) which can sit 6 plus luggage, with the option to slide back the centre seats to improve adult comfort. (3+3 seating similar to the Fiat Multipla which I find almost as ugly as a Ssangyong Rodius...)...
Hi
The car is a 2005 75k 1.9Tid150.
Have had it 4months and done about 5k. Tonight driving home (6miles city, 3miles @ 50mph in 6th @ 1500rpm) noticed mpg was going down (from 46) whilst coasting down hill, so realised it could be doing another Partical Filter regeneration. Near home pottering at 25mph reset the trip and the most it would do was 17-18mpg!... Read more

Just for you to consider. I have a Saab 9-3 1.9 Tid '150' with Superchip Remap, which has been nothing but problems for the last 4 years of me owning it. I too thought about removing the DPF as mine is nothing but a pain, I think mine regens too often about every 500-700 miles however my local dealer keeps advising me that its fine!!!...
Took my Vectra C (2002/62k) to have the brake pads checked and replaced as necessary following the advice given after the last annual service in October. Brakes were fine, just the rear pads needed replacement but the garage reported both front springs had broken. Needless to say they were replaced and at moderate cost but what concerns me is that I have no idea when this failure took place as the car has continued to handle just as well as it always does and if I hadn't been warned to have the brakes checked after 6-7k, my wife and I could have driven the car another 6k until the annual service in October completely oblivious of the problem. Or could we? Would there have come a time when two broken front springs involved us in some sort of accident? We do a long motorway journey at least once a month and two trips from West Wales to Scotland would also have been undertaken in the time scale mentioned above. I think what I am getting round to saying is that services based on high mileages or every 12 months if those mileages are not achieved can lead to major problems going unnoticed. Certainly, from now on, my car is going into the Vauxhall dealers every six months for a check over, even though they continue to tell me that this is completely unneccessary. What are the thoughts of other Back Roomers on this subject? Read more
I had a cracked spring on my 53 Vectra at MOT time about 18 months ago. Like the OP I didn't even know but the tester said it had been cracked for some time as the split was rusty.

I have two older cars, one diesel one petrol and as neither of them have any form of immobiliser I would like to fit a hidden dead switch somewhere in the cockpit. So I have two querstions.

However you wire it up you should use a locking key barrel switch.
