Hi,
The family are off to France first week of June, La Rochelle, and to break up the long drive each way we plan to take an extra day getting there and and another extra day getting back.... Read more
Hello
I've just spotted arnold clark (and Motorpoint) are selling a large number of VW Jettas with the uber desirable 1.4 TSI 122 engine that is usually impossible to get hold of. all the cars are on 59-reg plates with less than 10k miles and under £12k. This is silly cheap for a car that has a retail price of £18k when new!... Read more
Just to add an ending to this thread, I got comfirmation from a dealer they are non-uk spec imported hire cars from eire.
engine management light comes on [ the yellow spanner ] and engine keeps cutting out when warm, handbook says engine / gearbox electronic fault or fuel filter. it has been code read twice and cleared any ideas please Read more
Was anything replaced or just the codes cleared?? if its a genuine fault the codes will keep coming back no matter how many times you clear them........
I have a high mileage berlingo 1.9 Diesel which I have just bought. The car runs and drives fantasticaly except for a couple of things.
1, The gear change is very sloppy and it is easy to select the wrong gear. Is there a repair kit of bushes available? Or is this how they are?... Read more
UPDATE.
Found part of my problem.
There are three control rods on the gearchange mechanism one long, two short, one of the short ones had excess play in the bushes. With this replaced the sloppiness is improved.
I am a big fan of VW group products, and it seems that every magazine or web article I have seen recently is full of praise for the Skoda Superb. . . .
Now I am sure that the car is really good, but underneath it all is the platform, engines, and running gear, dashboard, seats etc, from a current b6 VW Passat. this was obvious with the last Generation Superb, and whilst slightly better disguised, has to still be the case today.... Read more
No - there's some form of bug our end - apologies. Our publisher and software developer are on the case.
I'm about 98 percent certain that my ageing Mazda6 petrol version has a cam chain rather than a belt.
am I right?... Read more
Thanks, bigtee.
I have the oil changed about every 3000 miles....
I recently bought an 18 month old 2.0 TDI 140 PS A4 Avant Multitronic from an Audi main dealer. Combined cycle consumption published by Audi and the Vehicle Certification Agency (www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/) for this car is 45.6 mpg (emissions 164 g/km). Driving like a monk on A roads I can't get it over 40 mpg!
Then I found the "vehicle data sticker" in the service logbook which gives the combined cycle fuel consumption as a very poor 29.6 mpg and emissions of 228 g/km!!!
Anyone else come across this before? Can anyone else with an A4 Avant with this engine tell me what their "vehicle data sticker" says please?
Dealer is playing (very) dumb and the VCA can't explain it either. Also seems the people who can run the standard test to prove the point, won't do it without Audi's co-operation.
Any help anyone can give me would be much appreciated...
(OK, so If can afford the car why am I obessing about the fuel burn....it just makes me so angry!!) Read more
An independent lab.would need road load or coast-down data from the manufacturer to allow them to set their dynamometer to the right load. This load is observed by government approved testing authorities on ALL vehicles submitted for emission/fuel consumption testing and will be checked when that testing is carried out. In addition, manufacturers are requred to keep records of testing carried out on a sample of production vehicles to demonstrate compliance with published figures and these will be checked by the certifying authority. Also, the authority can & will,on occasion, take a production vehicle and submit it to testing on their own facility. There are test vehicles circulating around both manufacturers' and authorities' facilities to avoid discrepancies.

Hi people,
Have a cooland leak!
Have topped up and this morning noticed I think where it is coming from.
Engine is a petrol 1.6 zetec on an 06 plate.
Between the coolant reservoir and the engine is a circular metal component with a metal bracket over it...the coolant seems to be leaking out the top of it...
Can anyone let me know what this component is?
Thanks. Read more
Hi did you manage to find out what the part was? i have the same leak on mine is a 2006 ford focus 1.8 tdci i would be greatfull for any help thank you.
Here I am, another stalling person looking for advice! Problem is that the car will stall if you bring it to a standstill at traffic lights/roundabouts etc - and once when coming off an A road, bit scary. It does this when you put the clutch down - the revs drop very quickly to very low levels. Another issue (poss related?) is that the dials on the dash (odometer, revs and petrol) all sit at zero for about 10 seconds after you start the car. Obviously the speedo should be at zero when the car starts but what about the rest? They do eventually rise to the correct place but it's a bit odd that they take so long. The car has recently been serviced with new brakes, spark plugs, oil change, air filter blah blah.... Read more

As for the idling problem...that was improved slightly when I gave up and took it to Ford. They charged me £££££££ for a diagnostics test I didn't want. They then replaced one of the vacuum tubes as apparently it was collapsing. I checked under the bonnet afterwards and couldn't see any new tubes though....

The car continued to stall until I replaced the ICV altogether. Since then it's run perfectly. This could be due to the improved weather as intake air is now much warmer than a few months ago. I guess I'll find out when it gets to November!

Hi guys,
I'm the OP and have just returned from my holiday in France. Stayed in an Accor hotel, Suitehotel. One in Rouen going out, another in Coquelles coming back. Totally recommend them for a family. We have two small children, one 3, the other a babe in arms. They supplied a family room including a cot and couldn't fault it (except breakfast but that's just France really). They also include free internet through your lap top or TV if you don't have a laptop, free unlimited movies on demand (about 40 to choose from including kids movies) and free music on-demand as well (about 100 albums to chose from)....
