vw golf 02 plate tdi - vw golf loss of power - bobb1974

my friends golf has lost all power like as if the turbo is not working, Ive read on forums that by switching ignition on and off it resolves problem only for it to happen again but my friends golf has a perminent loss. Also fuel consumption is up , only getting 30mpg, and engine managment light not on but have had it diagnostic check and the error codes are 17675 and 17668. Garage says could be injectors or even new cam needed. Just wondering if anybody has had simular problem which could be an easier fix. I suggested maf sensor to him but im no mechanic and how do u test a maf sensor?

The codes you have quoted don't seem to be right. The diagnostic check should have brought up the MAF sensor. im no specialist but it could be the EGR valve but once again that should have come up on the diagnostic check. I don't think it could be the injectors.

Sorry couldn't be more help.

thanks for any response.

the codes 17675 valve for pump injection cylinder 3; limit exceeded

17668 valve for pump injection cylinder 1; implausible signal

to me if the injectors were at fault then i would expect misfire and excessive smoke from exhaust but he doesn't have these symptoms. He does say that he feels a stutter on idle but not when revving the car, just no power like there is bo turbo. Will check the egr valve as ive had probs with that one on my own mondeo.

if anybody else out there got any ideas then i would be greatfull

thanks

Try disconnecting the plug to the MAF sensor & see if performance is improved.
