my friends golf has lost all power like as if the turbo is not working, Ive read on forums that by switching ignition on and off it resolves problem only for it to happen again but my friends golf has a perminent loss. Also fuel consumption is up , only getting 30mpg, and engine managment light not on but have had it diagnostic check and the error codes are 17675 and 17668. Garage says could be injectors or even new cam needed. Just wondering if anybody has had simular problem which could be an easier fix. I suggested maf sensor to him but im no mechanic and how do u test a maf sensor? Read more

I potentially need to hire an estate or people carrier to transport a large item from the UK to Austria. I need something with a load length of a minimum of 2 metres. What seemed like a simple piece of information seems impossible to find on several manufacturers websites I tried. I don't want a van. I want something that is fairly common and likely to pop up on hire car fleets - candidates I considered were a Passat, Insignia or Laguna estate. I can see that a Galaxy has around 2.1 metres but I need to find a company that hires one out.

There is a slight complication in that I need to hire the car in Austria as I live there, so I need to find a car that is available in Austria on the "for hire" list. A Passat estate is an eye-watering 800 euros for 10 days so I'm trying to find the smallest (read cheapest) car with the longest load area. Any ideas? Read more

Volvo Dealers have a hire facility you could specifically hire a V70. Alternatively you could get a quote from a courier like DHL or TNT who will have insurance cover for such an item.

There are plenty of bad ones too! There was no way I was going to buy my 4 year old 330d when it got to the end of its lease. I got fed up with it going into the dealer every couple of months (and I wasn't paying the bills). It even failed its first MOT.

But when it was running right it was a fantastic drive.

I'm having real difficulty getting some replacement front wheel bearings for my 2007 (57) Mazda sport 2L diesel. Having purchased a wheel bearing from Mazda I set about replacing an extremely worn front off side bearing. Having removed the offending item I was dismayed to find the new bearing was too small. I returned to Mazda with both bearings and got a refund, however they where unable to identify a new replacement bearing stating that the one that they supplied was the correct one for my car; obviously not!!!

I tried several other motor factors all with the same result, all of them having the smaller bearing. Now this leads me to believe that I have some 'Hybrid' components fitted to my car, curious in it's self but the real killer is that I still haven't got a replacement bearing.

I have tried Industry bearing distributors and manufactures and have still had no luck. The bearing is stamped up with KOYO DAC4584W-5 and measures 45mm (internal bore) x 84mm (external diameter) x 45mm wide on the outer race. I've passed on these details to the bearing people but they have been unable to identify the bearing, even Koyo's UK 'Master Distributor' has failed.

I've emailed Koyo UK but after 4 days have still not received a reply and they are un-willing to speak to me on the phone as Joe public.

I know I could replace the whole front arm and drive shaft but I'm trying to avoid this, thinking that I may have to do that to both sides for safety reasons. Unfortunately the car has done 86k and is out of warranty so dumping it on Mazda might prove to be costly.

Has anyone else come across this and if so how did you resolve it?

Has anyone got any further ideas and know somewhere I can get a replacement bearing?

>> also compatable with the 2.3L diesel Mazda 6 as well.

So not a diesel at all. There was a petrol turbo 2.3l Mazda 6. At least you're sorted.

The temperature gauge will gradually increase until it reaches just below 90C (88C or so). Shortly after this temperature is reached, it will drop suddenly to about 75C and then never reach proper operating temperature (88C) again. I have also noticed the engine cooling fan will be running a lot.

I checked the top hose of the radiator and this stays cold for a while indicating that the thermostat is closed to start with and then opens. As far as I am aware, ECU, thermostat or AC pressure switch control operation of the fan.... Read more

Last week during servicing, dealer told me one of my tyres (front n/s) got a nail in tyres sidewall which was unrepairable [and I changed all tyres just 3 months back!]

Since I had a full size spare wheel, I asked them to fit that as a replacement.

Now my question is, can I repair this tyre?

Off course, I won't use this tyre on motorway speeds [after repair]. However, I wonder whether I need to buy a new tyre for spare or just repair it so that it becomes a "limp home" mode spare tyre.

In case it can't be repaired, should I buy a good tyre for spare or just buy a cheap budget one?

My current tyres are all Continental Eco [last set lasted ~30k miles, even with puncture repair on 2 tyres]. Read more

I replaced my thermostat when the temperature guage suddenly shot up above 3/4 one day. I checked the old thermostat and it was indeed faulty.

Then a new problem appeared. When warmed up, my engine temperature now fluctuates between 1/4 and 1/2 according to the guage. It never reaches a steady operating temperature, cycling between 1/4 and 1/2 continuously, every 30-40 seconds. Which is scary when driving!... Read more

Thanks Fernando,

My car was recently only getting around 23 mpg driving locally, not traffic jams. At 37 mpg combined official I'd expected about 30 mpg. The car had been serviced, oil and filters, and is runnning fine. I've always use supermarket unleaded but decided to try BP superunleaded. I also put in some redex fuel/additive injector cleaner. Its only been a few days but I've noticed the fuel gauge not moving down as fast compared to before. Its too early to tell whether the mpg has increased and whether the slow moving fuel gauge is just psychological. Would putting in redex and superunleaded help mpg? Is it better to use just one rather than both, would superunleaded have redex agents in already? I've heard redex cleans the injectors? The cars done 103k miles. I haven't noticed an increase in performance. Read more

placing some injector cleaner will help to improve mpg, as running the car in local runs can contribute to clogging up the injectors, a quick italian tune up will do, also if your car is doing short runs, better to change the oil evey 6 months
