My mother in law has a C3 52 reg. When we recently put in a cd player instead of the standard fit cassette player, the doors would lock themsleves when driving, and casue the warning sound (beeps when seatbelts not fastened) to sound continously.
we put the old cassete player in and all was fine. Anyway now she has another CD Player installed, this time by a garage (they did it foc). She went to the shops, and locked the car with the remote fob and when she returned, nothing happened. the car would not unlock by the fob or by manualy using the lock on the door. after being stuck for hours she called out the AA, who could not get in the car and they lifted it home and put it outside her house.... I've had the car a few months and don't have much history on it. It's meant to be a cheap runabout for me to hone my light maintainence skills and learn a bit more from unfortunately...

Thanks. I've located the speedo cable for future reference.
I found the short - right under my nose on the wires to the idle control valve....
hi, my 1999 t reg 406 dt, timing belt has snapped whilst driving at town speed. i would like to know if the valves etc would be knackered. the breakdown guy said i maybe lucky as he new someone with same type car which had dish/dome pistons which saved the day and all that was required was new belt. someone else said dome pistons on this car is highly unlikely and that new head gasket would be required. thanks in advance for any comments/advice Read more
If its a 1.9 it will undoubtedly have suffered harm, will probably need a new camshaft and at least some valves, if you are fortunate enough to have a 2.1, probably only the rockers will have broken which can be replaced without removing the head.
Elegance is dead really don`t you think? It`s been a steady downhill run since the Art Deco era and now across the world slobbery prevails in dress and attitude.
Shambling figures in tatty jeans, bloated by the puffery of wadding and internal padding. Long gone, the effort or fashion of looking good - except in France, where the odd female of a certain age stands as a beacon of desire and fashion that actually attracts the jaded eye.... Read more

Currently have Michellin Pilot Exaltos fitted all round, front tyres will soon need replacing should I go for the same Michellins or the premacy HP's ? not a lot difference in price. Read more
I had a set of Michelin Primacy tyres on a Golf PD130, and although I got very good mileage out of them, I wasn't really happy with the grip in cold winter conditions.
I now have Conti Premium Contact 2's fitted: not cheap, and not as good mileage, but they stick to the road just that bit better in the cold and the wet, which is worth it for me....
Hi,
My Picasso has started to pull in to the neaside, ongoing problem. Garage said the strut top bearings and a wheel bearing needed changing, gave the go ahead and while this improved things slightly the problem is still there.... Read more
>>Garage has suggested that front wheels are swapped over but I think tyres are directional.
If they are directional, try swapping front to rear.
A couple of days ago i discovered the I couldn't turn the airblowers in my Xsara off. Even with the switch turned to off it was sending air through and when I turned the blowers on it increased. It was a pain in the neck on holiday so the only way I could get it turned off was to remove the fuse (No.18).
Does anyone know what the procedure is to repair ? I'd do it myself but as there isn't a Haynes Manual for the car I'm loathed to send it into the dealer !!... Read more

Way to early to talk about the Leaf but I am a sceptic. A second or third car perhaps but at what cost to the environment in pure manufacturing stakes. Great potential headlines though "Man turns over a new Leaf" for instance. Will production fall off in the autumn, will we be able to compost it instead of recycling. Will it be only available in green/brown?
Thanks for getting me in HJ & Sarah...I'm back on board!... Read more
The numbers don't make sense - quotes from Japanese version of Leaf:
"Nissan's first mass-produced all-electric model will go on sale in Japan next month with a price tag of 3.76 million yen or £27,000."...

One more thing, we use the Riems route to get away from Calais quickly and totally avoid the Peripherique in Paris. Unless going to Paris give it wide berth. Concrete
