All diesel of course, & FWD only in the case of the Yeti,

and all based on a square back end to stow a wheelchair upright, going to look at a V50 tonight as I cannot remember how much room there is in the "boot" ( but I love the Volvo seats, with their extra seat squab adjustments)... Read more

Thanks for the comments as above.

But I'll probably drive the old girl a while yet ( to recoup my continuing investment)...

I had a very minor bump in my 1.7 Puma last September, and, after repairing the bodywork myself, it would not idle without any throttle.

Apparently it has minor damage (couple of severed wires) to the engine bay wiring loom, particularly the immobiliser. Of course, because its the immobiliser the wires are all black so mechanic stumped.... Read more

I've got a rather odd problem with my 2004 1.9 SDI VW Polo (non-turbo). The A/C compressor was replaced last June (although it turned out not to be faultY), and the clutch snapped in half some time before Christmas. It's had the clutch replaced since then, and the A/C worked for a while, but has thrown it again.

I realise this could have a number of causes, e.g. a restriction in the hoses/condenser etc, but my local mechanic is now wondering if it is a vibrational problem caused by a failing/failed dual mass flywheel.... Read more

Update: apparently the compressor is always driven by the belt and so the "clutch" is really just a pulley. I've checked the part number on the compressor, and it appears to be the correct part.

The mechanic's AC people have checked out the compressor and claim it's working fine, and it *does* work correctly after a new pulley/clutch is put on -- until it breaks again. This suggests to me that the compressor probably *is* OK....

Have you checked out gsf.com. They specialise in German, Swedish and French car parts and they have their own forum too.

I used them once to obtain a new indicator stalk unit. I ended up emailing them a photo of the part to ensure I ordered the right part. They were very helpful.

Hi guys. Not been using my car much for the last few weeks but noticed today that when I turned on the air-con, the green/yellow indicator light came on as usual but there was minimal if any cooling. In the past I've noticed that when I've turned the aircon on when driving in low gear there's been a slight change in engine revs and sometimes a clunk sound but that doesn't seem to be happening now so I'm wondering if there's been some electrical and/or mechanical failure as opposed to a leak of refrigerant. Can anyone offer any advice as to what's likely to be wrong and where I might go to get it fixed. I should add I don't have much faith in my Mazda dealer anymore so I'm gathering impartial advice before I decide how best to proceed, Many thanks! Read more

Mazda-Man

Well it all seems to be fixed.... (still touching wood though :) ). No sign of any leaks from the repaired areas and the air-con's as cold as ice so a great big thank you to Mark and John at ac4cars.co.uk

I have an S-Type and the heating was coming through very hot inside the car despite using the controls to turn the temp down. I have dual zone controls if that helps. My local independent changed the heating valve unit and this worked for a week. Now the heat is again coming through full on for just the drivers side only. Not sure if it was just the drivers side originally.

Jaguar have indicated that the heating valve unit may be faulty or I need a new Air Con control module. Any ideas of what they cost and fitting?... Read more

I recently had the opposite problem with the heating running cold. It was traced to a failed outside air temperature sensor near the radiator which confused the system into thinking it was hotter than in reality. Could yours have failed and be causing the system to think it is colder than it is?

Good luck

Hi Recently changed the heater matrix on my Passat 1.9 TDI , but i still dont seem to be getting any heat through the matrix !. I have flushed the cooling system and bled it of any air locks, changed the thermostat but still no heat.

Could the problem be the water pump ?... Read more

It could be - the plastic impellers are prone to either breaking up or becoming loose on the pump shafts. Use a pattern pump with a metal impeller as a replacement.

If this were the problem though, I'd expect to see some overheating at heavy engine load - although not at light load as the PD is so efficient it needs no cooling under these conditions....
