Wicker

My lad is 6’6”, wears size 13 shoes, is rapidly approaching his 17th birthday and is keen to start driving. Unfortunately he doesn’t fit into a Peugeot 106 (my first thought). He fits very well into a VW Fox (he can put his knees together under the steering wheel) but the Fox seem overpriced s/h. So can anyone suggest any other low insurance group cars to try him in please?

i have bought a 2000 Honda civic 5 door ,i have owned the car since the 1 feb 10 , i am becoming really frustrated regarding the amount of light i am getting on the road with the headlights, the car uses h4 bulbs which i have always thought inferior design wise , so far i have tried standard, nightbreaker, xenon blue and blue vision bulbs, the headlights are clean inside and out, power supplied to them is ok, earth's are good, did pick a cops brain at a christening i went to Sunday regarding hid , but he went into the legal side of things with me plus informing me they would invalidate my insurance

really need some advice as im getting seriously lighter in the wallet buying all these different bulbs, but really need to sort it as i do most of my driving at night , unlit motorway etc Read more

Have you had the horizontal alignment checked ?

I had a Mk3 Mondeo which had poor headlights and it turned out to be the horizontal alignment (side to side) both headlamps were pointing slightly outwards (boss-eyed), bringing them back in made staggering difference.

We're going to Northern Spain in July/August and want to rent a car for15 days. I have normally used Hertz in the past and got an on-line quote from them back in January for a Fiesta-sized car and it was about £320 (as far as I recall). Checked again today and it's over £700!! I've looked at Avis and Europcar and they're a bit cheaper but still £600+. However, holidayautos quote £411.

I know there may be slight differences in insurance etc but I still wonder why:... Read more

Have used Holiday Autos several times in several different countries including Spain. It has been a consistently good experience. Cars have come from various sources Hertz, Sixt, Europcar and Record rentacar in Spain who i had never heard of but are a large Spanish company. Mostly I book the base model and usually find an upgrade offered. in Ma***illes booked booked a base model and given a Citroen C5 Diesel which was nice for our touring holiday.

Have normally booked my Holiday Autos as a CSMA customer which gives a bit more discount....

Our Panasonic HDD/CD recorder has developed a habit of sometimes recording TV programs, such that when playing back, the sound is perfect, but the picture jumps as if it is missing some frames other frame (a bit like when fast forwarding at 1.5x, but with perfect sound). It makes you feel seasick if you watch it!

Does not happen all the time and no obvious pattern to when it happens. Seems to generally affect the whole of the recording, but has happened mid-way through some.

Automatic software updates is enabled and re-tuning has no effect!

Model is DMR EX75EB-S

having a problem with our citroen. it keeps cutting out, no warning just dies. This varies as to staying dead for anything between 5- 30 mins during which time if you try to start it the engine management light stays out. The car will only start if the em light comes on during the ignition process.

other times it's just a blip of no power, dead engine blink of em light and then all normal again - but for how long??? It's pretty scary on motorway when this happens and you have to make an emergency dive for the hard shoulder.... Read more

I have a Mondeo 2.5 L v6 which I plan on keeping for a while. I like the car but Labour are just taking too much money off me.

I would like to reduce my running costs. Thinking of the LPG conversion which at £2000 is not cheap. I do approx 10k miles per year so the payback time is a bit long for me.... Read more

Not quite the same, but we have an LPG powered forklift at work. It is made by a well known manufacturer of loading equipment and is powered by a well know manufacturer of engines.

When every thing is working it is great, but it is very temperamental. When gas changes from a liquid to a gas it gets very cold and you need a heated regulator to regulate gas flow. If there is the slightest bit of dirt in the cooling system it blocks the heat exchanger and you get no gas and she stops. You need to remember that this is a puka factory job, not a mod. ...

Hi,
Hope one of you can help me with this-
I've just taken my '02 1.7 puma to the local garage to check out an oil leak. They tell me it is the cam cover gasket which is leaking in 3 places.
The oil is coming out of the rear of the engine somewhere out of sight below the cylinder head.
Here are my questions-
1) does the the cam cover gasket sound like a correct diagnosis?
2) is it a straightforward job or would it be safer to take it to a main dealer?
3) does £56 sound about right?
Thanks in advance,
Mike. Read more

1) Yep, quite likely.

2)Fairly straight forward usually, just make sure to remove all traces of the old gasket before you fit the new one and tighten the cover bolts back up properly, (A haynes manual will take you through it)

3) Sounds pretty good.
