Volkswagen - Tyre Dilemna - Car

Currently have Michellin Pilot Exaltos fitted all round, front tyres will soon need replacing should I go for the same Michellins or the premacy HP's ? not a lot difference in price.

What mileage have you got from the michelins? have they worn equally across the tread?

Im using michelins had continental on they didn't last but these seem much better, goodyear make a good tyre and pirelli, wouldn't bother with cheaper brands.

Also we swap our tyres around fwd car to maxamise mileage from a set do you do this?

Total of 24,000 miles (12,000 on rear then 12,000 on front), would prefer to stay with Michellin, but would have two types of michellin have any adverse effect of handling etc.

BTW car is a TD which produces 155bhp and around 400nm of torque so would not go for a cheap brand of tyre.

Thanks

You won't have a problem mixing the michelins id rather keep the same pair on the axles,

Have they stopped making this tread you have what is the size and speed rating?

205/55 R16V, premacy are in stock but exaltos have to order these and treadwear bars are close to suface but depth guage reads 2mm so need to change tyres soon. Will put new tyres on same axle.

I wopuld stick with the same if possible. I have just done an experiment with some Avon ZV5's on my A4 and I have learnt that you get what you pay for in tyres. My ZV5's on the front have not even done 7K yet and are significantly worn. I wish I'd spent the extra monet and got the michelins which would have lasted twice as long.

Amost all of my driving is cruising on motorways and dual carriageways.

I had a set of Michelin Primacy tyres on a Golf PD130, and although I got very good mileage out of them, I wasn't really happy with the grip in cold winter conditions.

I now have Conti Premium Contact 2's fitted: not cheap, and not as good mileage, but they stick to the road just that bit better in the cold and the wet, which is worth it for me.
