Hi all

Just bought demonstrator model but seem to be only getting 25 mpg. can this be right? thought I should be getting around 40 with the new engine. Am I missing something or is it just my poor driving. previously had sline A6 tdi which worked out at nearer 40.

Hi. I have hesitation when i accellerate, only if i put my foot down hard. It also hesitates around the 3000 rpm mark. I have modified my driving to use the accelorator gently and it all seems ok, but if i need to overtake, wether i change down or not, the hesitation is most apparent.
There are no noises, oil leaks, it is serviced regularily, no warning lights, no excess fuel usage, no black smoke.
It has just sailed through the MOT and i asked the garage to put it on the diagnostic machine and no fault was found. Someone said it could be the air flow meter?

Thanks Read more

I had similar issues on my 2000 1.8t Passat and it was the MAF meter. The symptoms got progressively worse and eventually it wouldn't rev past about 5500rpm. I had no fault codes either.

Hi,

I'm interested in buying a Golf GTI, but the fuel guage doesn't work and needs replacing. It would irritate me if it didn't work.......I've had a quote of about £300 to replace it. Can that be right?

Is it really that fiddly? Has anybody had any experience of this?

Many thanks! Read more

From today's Telegraph:

A South Korean woman has finally passed her driving theory test at the 950th attempt. The aspiring driver spent more than 5 million won (£2,500) sitting the written exam almost daily since April 2005 but until this week had failed to score the minimum 60 out of a possible 100 points needed to get behind the wheel for a driving test.

Cha Sa-soon, 68, passed with a score of 60 on Wednesday, said Choi Young-chul, a police official at the drivers' license agency in Jeonju, 130 miles south of Seoul.

Now she must pass a driving test before getting her license, Mr Choi said.

Mrs Cha She told the Korea Times newspaper she needed the license for her vegetable-selling business.

I need to renew the thermostat on my Vectra DTi. But since it comes in a housing, its going to cost almost £30 ! Is there a way of fitting an ordinary stat into my existing housing ? Seems stupid to have to replace the whole lot to me.
If not - Where's the cheapest place,on the net, to get the whole lot ? Thanks.

Another advantage of fitting a complete housing, at least from the trade's point of view, is there's no wasted time cleaning up the mating surface and having to use tons of sealant.

I don't understand this - If you remove the housing you still have to clean up the mating surface and use new sealant ?
Changing the stat took 10 seconds, once the housing was off and 10 seconds to fit the new one (just twists in). My part, once sourced from the Net,was collected from the Factors,in a box with a removal/refitting tube,a sachet of rubber grease and three 'O' rings. And full comprehensive instructions.

Bargain in my book !

I am looking to buy a second hand ABS hydraulic pump. I have been looking on the net and I have found some parts that come under the description of 'ABS Pump/Modulator', is this what I'm looking for?

Also, where do I find the part number? I have found some numbers but people go on about the number having a 614 in it but I can't find anything like that on it!! Anyone able to help? Read more

Hello,

The pull mechanism on the stalk should operate the front windscreen wash and set off the wipers for 3 or 4 wipes, however, it sets off the wipers but no screen wash, all the other operations work on the stalk. The rear wash works but when the stalk is pulled for the front wash no pump noise can be heard.

Is it likely to be the stalk module within the steering column?

Thanks

Hi all, this isn't for me (fairly obviously for those that know my circumstances!) but when would those in the trade be looking to drop £50K on a Vantage?

No discussion about the choice of car please or suggestions to buy something different, a V8 Vantage is the only car that the purchaser wants and it's something of a lifelong dream so no argument is likely to change their mind!

My gut tells me that December will be the time that dealerships (not really keen on a private or small trader sale) will be lucky to see many customers at all, let alone those with cash in the bank wanting to buy such a vehicle. As such I would hope that prices at this time will be as soft as they will get all year.

I remember from my selling days that the market picked up noticeably in January, but I'm not sure whether the same would be said of cars in this section of the market?

Another consideration is the VAT increase but this will be of less a concern on a used car as I believe that the VAT is only paid on the gross margin and not the sale cost.

What an odd co-incidence that this thread was commented on today as I was just about to bump it anyway!

The deal has been done on a brand new one with a not inconsiderable £17K discount!!

It had admittedly had the options list thrown at it when ordered by the dealers, I would have called it a "Christmas Tree" if I was still selling, which bumped the list up considerably and probably allowed the wiggle room on the discount.

Excuse the non technical language folks.

I have a problem with my 05 Ford Mondeo 2.0 tdci

After finding the plastic underside of the engine compartment (the bit that follows on from the bumper) had been smashed, with about a quarter of it on the drivers side missing, my mondeo has started to feel like the turbo is intermitently not kicking in.

The power surge that was obvious before now seems to be missing at times, there is also a loud, obvious, dull whine coming in at the point that the turbo used to kick in. This noise only starts when the car is in gear and moving at around 1750rpm, this noise is there even when the turbo does kick in. It's constant from around 1750rpm upwards and is not affected by putting the clutch in, or taking the revs on and off, you can just about hear the tinkle of the diesel engine below this noise. The car idles fine, and sounds fine when revved in neutral.

There's been no stalls, rattles, clunks or warning lights.

Thanks in advance
