I have been given to understand that there is no congestion charge on the VW Polo 1.4 Diesel Blue Motion model and the Seat Ibiza 1.4 TDi ecomotive model

Is this correct?

Tornadorot

No, they'd have to be electric, hybrid, hydrogen, LPG or CNG-powered to be exempt. However, they are in VED Band A, so they are road tax exempt.

Does any know if the Ford Focus CC (Cabriolet) 2006 front bumper can be a direct replacement for the Focus MKII 2006, just fitting wise? Read more

Hi guys.
Hope someone can throw somelight on my problem.

my 02 plate mondeo diesel has developed a misfire at around 2200revs (60 to 70mph) under steady load.
Under acceleration the car seems fine but cruising at stated revs the misfire (ockering) develops if I push the revs upto around 2400 the hesitation goes away but as soon as you ease off it returns..the car also seems to be guzzling juice..

Running at slower speeds the problem doesnt seem to appear.. most of my driving is motorway driving so the problem is one i can done without..

thought train is heading towards injectors although someone has mentioned the turbo.
so any help greatly appreciated..

cheers

It could be any number of things. Take the engine cover off and if the underside is covered in soot then that's a likely indication of a split hose. Easy enough to fix.

If its not that, then the fueling system is so complex you'll need to find a decent diesel specialist to determine what's going on, otherwise you could well end up changing expensive parts randomly without any benefit.

Just been looking at one of these s/h - very nice and not expensive s/h. Anyone any views on running these long-term/high mileage - since it's not even a PD engine, a better high-mileage engine? Read more

A good friend had the B5.5 Audi A6 with the 2.5 V6 TDI and it was horribly noisy and vibratory, it made my B5.5 Passat PD130 seem refined by comparison

It added injury to insult by lunching the injection pump, which killed the engine.

Hi all,

Further to my post the other day, we are looking at a choice of two Vantages, one appears to be the original model (pre-2007 facelift, but only just), the other is the first of the 2008 facelift.

Despite some Googling we haven't yet come across a site that clearly lists the differences between the car's versions i.e. Launch model in 2005, facelift in 2007 and then facelift in 2008.

Does anyone have a link that would help?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Just wondering if someone could help me getting to the coil pack on the endura engine. It's hidden behind the engine and I'm just wondering the best method to getting to it. All i'm trying to do is change the HT leads.

Thanks a lot. Read more

This job can be made a lot easier if the o/s front of the car can be lifted in the air.You will then be able to see what to do rather than by feel from the top.Make sure you make a note of which lead goes where. The coil is marked with the lead numbers but difficult to see in this position.hth

Hi,

I'm a photographer and I work a lot in the UK countryside. I've got a particular need this winter to do some scenic stuff. I need to carry a fair amount of kit with me, and I normally camp to save costs when I'm motoring around.

At the moment I have a Golf GTI which is lovely, but severely dented an alloy wheel the other day in a fairly small pothole in Kent. As I'm doing a lot more of this work over the winter, I think I need to treat myself to something which will not break or get stuck in normal UK countryside environments. I've also got the Golf stuck on an unmade road before, which was a bit embarrassing! :S

One of the difficulties is that I am based in London, so there will very significant motorway journeys to wherever I want to get to (Cornwall, Scotland and Wales to name a few), which makes anything like a Defender an unrealistic prospect. However, on the other hand there's little point buying a 'fake' 4x4 or a normal estate car which gets stuck in a Welsh puddle or grounds out on the unmade roads and paths.

As I'm a photographer, I've not got a great amount of money, maybe £2-£5k budget. Anyone have a sensible suggestion? Given that I'm going to be in the middle of nowhere, often at night on my own, it can't break down *ever* and needs to be from a manufacturer with lots of dealerships as I'm probably going to need the occasional thing far from home. I'm not worried about fuel economy or image, this is going to be a work tool and the fuel will be deductible. I'm also not worried about leather seats, air con, CD players, navigation or any mod cons, in many respects the less to go wrong the better.

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Rob

how about a Kia Sportage, I have seen a 05 model for £5500, I do not know what the off road capabilities are but they seem OK, my cousin has one on their farm, but they use it as a road car

Another one is the Hyundi Santafe, a 54 reg one is about £4000, nice car, OK on muddy fields although not to muddy. Had one on hire in Iceland, was fine on snow

How about a Rav 4, 52 plate for about £5000

Ladies and Gents,

A chap in North London (Edgware) has had his pride and joy nicked, by house burglars entering his house and stealing his keys.

The car is an Estoril Blue BMW Z3M, reg no: 'W702SKJ'. The owner is concerned (probably correctly) that it will be broken down into parts, but some of those parts ought to be well recognisable if offered for sale on the various sites.

The attached link to BMWLAND shows pictures of the car and lists specific parts in detail.

I have sought HJ's permission to post this here and request anyone with an interest keeps their 'eyes open'.

Thank you.

I have a ford focus zetec 2006, when I take my foot off the brake the boot has started to click open. Also when the car is unlocked I cant open the boot, I have to press the boot button on the key to get it open. It only started happening last night, can you advise what I can do or should I take it to a garage to get them to fix it?

Many thanks Read more

I wonder if it is an earthing problem which causes the boot solinoid to click when the brake lights applied?

I just wondered yesterday when I noticed how much rust there were on the disks after just a couple of nights of heavy, driven rain if anyone had vere manufactured stainless stell disks. Does anyone know?

I normally let the car run in whatever gear it's in and use the brakes when a hazard appears. I suppose this is the dabbing technique basically.

Disc brakes don't fade as dramatically as drums used to but they can overheat. Caution may be indicated when descending very long and steep hills with a load, especially if you don't know the road. A sudden hairpin when you are going rapidly and have run out of brakes is no joke. Dropping down a gear or even two can slow the car and certainly gives the brakes an easier time.

I don't see how wear comes into it Mustang. Brakes are consumables after all. If you use them, they wear.
