Just bought this car yesterday. Got it valeted this morning, put a years tax on it went to petrol station, filled it up. Went to turn ignition and nothing! Tried tapping it with a hammer, all sorts, nothing. It is in park so I cant move it. Waiting on a tow truck. I phoned Chrysler they want £200 to replace ignition barrel. Apparently its a Chrysler only part and if I was to buy it on its own they dont supply keys!! They say it has to go to be re-programmed. Am I stuffed or is there anything else I can do. My boyfriend is sitting in the car right now while I frantically look at options on tinternet. Read more

Hej!
I have problem on Xantia 1,8 16v, 1996.
Abs light goes regulary off when you start car, and after about 2 minutes, it turnes on, even if you dont move the car!
Have you any idea what it can be? If it is sensors (not good resistance), then it would not pass the test, and turn lamp off. If it is something other with sensors (do not work, or signal uregular/not high enough), why it turn lamp on when car is not moving?

Thanks

I had ABS light on intermittently with car moving or stationary. I checked the resistance on all four sensors. Three were similar but one from front left kept giving different bizarre readings. Ordered new front sensor. When replacing it found brake pads were worn right down on this wheel. On removing problematic sensor found the face o the sensor has three metal plates the central one being magnetic. The face was covered in what looked like iron filings (presumably from the badly worn brake discs). On cleaning off all the metallic muck the sensor then gave consistent correct resistance readings so I think the problem was the iron muck build up on the sensor face. As I had a new sensor I fitted that just to be on the safe side and new disk pads. Now ABS is Ok. Lesson, just try cleaning the sensor face first if it is mucky.

a light has appeared on my dash board and I don't know what it is for as I don't have a handbook for this car. it appears at the bottom left of the dash and it looks like a container with a removable lid but the lid is in place and there is a wiggly line about half way down to indicate a fluid level, and what looks like a drip underneath it. now I'm sure it is telling me I have fluid level low, but which one, as I have checked each one and topped up any that were low, but light persists. thought I better add the car is an auto, and this is for a friend so I don't know the year of reg. please help . He's probably right as usual, though IIRC these do have a water sensor in the filter too with it's own light, my Landcruiser of similar vintage had the same.

They also have a blocked air filter warning light, as well as the usual low coolant warning.

You move house and so have to take your car somewhere new for service and repair.
You turn up to book it in and speak to the service manager.

How do you judge if the new place is any good? Is there a question or two you can ask the service manager to help you judge?

AS - no doubt an unrepresentative sample, but I have felt that I have had better service at those places without displayed prices than those with. No rational theory behind it, just an impression.

Mechanics' 125mph Joyride In Customer's Car

They were supposed to be fixing a leaky radiator. But when the owner of a £30,000 Vauxhall Monaro car collected it from his local garage, he discovered mechanics had taken it on a joyride at speeds of 125mph. Skip related content

The owner of the car, who doesn't want to be named, had installed a Roadhawk black-box recorder three months earlier.

When he left his car for repair at the garage in Redditch, there was a quarter of a tank of petrol left. When he collected it, he noticed the tank was empty.

"I looked at the video from the Roadhawk and was completely stunned. They had taken it out for a spin on the A435 at 120mph.

"When I confronted the garage they denied it. Then I told them I had the video and they admitted everything and apologised."

The Roadhawk device records video, GPS data and g-forces for every journey.

Video captured during the incident, which has been posted on YouTube, shows the driver overtaking cars and lorries on the A435 Alcester Road between Redditch to Portway.

The vehicle speeds past a garage at 100mph, before hitting a narrow slip-road at 90mph and continuing through country lanes.

The owner said: "The outside of that lane is marked off and lorries sometimes park up there. If you go wide on that corner at that speed you could easily slam into the back of one."

Fans of the film Ferris Bueller's Day off will enjoy the video.

In a scene from the film, Ferris persuades Cameron to let them borrow his father's 1961 Ferrari 250 GT. After leaving it at a garage they return to discover 100 miles have been added to the clock.

The 5.6 litre Vauxhall Monaro has a top-speed of 170mph and won Top Gear's best Muscle Car award.

West Mercia police confirmed they are investigating the incident. The owner of the garage said he had seen the video but refused to comment.

Can anyone tell me what year this lorry was first registered please?

I know there is a website somewhere where you can search for old registration numbers, but I can't find it this morning!

There are some appealing motors there.

I like the Model T, the Hupmobile, the biggest of the Austins, the manual (!) Ferrari 400 and a couple of the Jags. There's a nice Armstrong-Siddeley as well.

perro: I must say I am surprised if you think Ladas and Skoda Estelles are similar sorts of car. Thought you were a connoisseur?

Evening all.
My car has been performing well with no issues until today. Drove the car to work this morning with no problems and then this evening whilst driving back it started running very "lumpy".

It done this the whole way home (about 5 miles) It felt like it wanted to stall but it never did. Also the Auto box was not as responsive.

I got home, picked up my college stuff and went back out in the car. It drove with absolutley no problems, also after college it performed fine on the way home.

Any ideas? Read more

i would say crap in tank but apparently that wouldnt help. lol...............

I'm watching it now, for a high-budget drama the realism of the vehicles is lacking somewhat. There's a MkI (95-99) Sprinter van on 51 plates, and a millionaire in a £4,000 10-year-old Mercedes. The police traffic car looks to be a bog-standard Mondeo. There are more true-to-life police cars in The Bill.

The "collision" hasn't happened on-screen yet, but I'm willing to bet it will rival Marcus's Renault A610 exploding in El Dorado for realism...

Cracking ideas though and sting in the tail (so to speak)

Please bear with me. Hopefully these questions do not seem too obvious:
(The vehicles this is relevent to is a toyota camry and honda deauville)

Q1. I have heard someone say that their renault megane uses 1/2 common rail. I cannot grasp this concept: what exactly does he mean?

Q2. Can anyone offer advice/ give a video of how to change a motorcycle clutch and synchronise carbs. Something for dummies would be great!

Q3. How can heated grips be installed onto a motorbike. Good instructions/ video would be very useful.

Q4. Is there a guide on the internet to allow me to understand wiring diagrams. I have looked but I cannot find a good one.

Q5. If my bike has only a coolant temperature gauge that only warns you when the bike is overheating, is it possible to install one with an actual gauge. Where can I get a good outdoor gauge from - I've only seen interior ones for cars online?

Q6. Where can I buy a code reader for my car at a reasonable price?

Q7. How can fuel be siphoned out of a car fuel tank safely and without causing air bubles in the system.

Sorry I have so many questions. I look forward to your input into this: very much appreciated.

Any thoughts on the issue above? And where online can I obtain wiring diagrams/ manuals for past cars?
