And why that guess when the first post said

Interesting things, old number plates. Sometimes no logic to the issue.
Manchester had N then NA to NF, then strangely VM, VR,VU and XJ. Still issuing 1234 XJ in 1964ish.
I had a spell on the stolen vehicle index in the police. It was just a card index with cars logged in categories by the last two letters.
If it was quiet, it was easy to check the car before the patrol officer had finished telling you the number....sometimes they would come up to the information room and complain that you hadn't done the check thoroughly. It was simply that no cars with, say, TXJ numbers were on a card.....quicker than a computer !
What was slower though, if a request for a reg owner came in in the night, an officer had to walk down to the Local Taxation Office with the keys and look on their files. If the car had been sold on then the whole performance had to be done again by another force !

I did try Google focus:)
But I typed in Lorry registration plates/ Lorry number plates and even the registration number.
I think lorry and not car, you see!
Now, is there any way of finding out the exact make and model from the registration?
There is a photo and I will try and put a link to it on here.

All I've managed to find is that it's a Volvo.
I first put the reg into webuyanycar.com's link, which found the make. This was confirmed using RAC's website. The DVLA says it was first registered on 05 09 1978, the tax ran out on the 01 06 1989, it was a 6,700 CC diesel engine, and it's colour was blue.
Unfortunately I've not been able to find the model.

I'm sorry Dave, I've been talking in riddles:)
This is the Volvo F86 with the registration number as as in the original post.

I have driven this one many times up and down the yard as it was used for may years as the yard shunter. It's still in a garage there and will be restored at some stage:)
The other photo is the one we can't identify the make or model of.
We know it's either a Leyland or an AEC but I need to be more specific!
Sorry:)
