Imagine that you are going through this junction from point A to point B, there are four sets of lights (1-4) facing you. There is some traffic so speed is fairly low, but there is no queue so it seems that you can clear the box junction.

You pass lights 1 and 2 on green, through 3 as it is just turns amber and then 4 turns red before you reach the second crossing.
Am I correct in thinking that you must stop before the second crossing, within the box junction, rather than clear the junction, because the red light is protecting the crossing?
The actual junction is here (looking from point A):

WP,
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to dig that out, I really appreciate it. They key point seems to be that you only commit an offence if the thing stopping you is a stationary vehicle.
However, I guess that the situation with the red light is still the same, that you don't have to stop for it, if there is no stop line. But at least if you do stop, you are not violating the bix junction rule.
I notice that at the bottom there is a link to the following news story:
preview.tinyurl.com/yfy6cmr
It relates to a junction I had some issues with recently. I happened to go back there, to observe how the lights works, and while I was there saw several situations where a whole lane of the dual carriageway was blocked by a car in the box junction. I don't know they having changed the junction so that they can now issue tickets again but, if they have, they must be making a fortune!
Thanks again.
Hello its that man again,
After haveing not much luck with dealers off the cars that i liked i thought i would try a BMW garage that i just happened to drive past,
now what a difference i know the cars are more expensive but the service is pretty faultless oh and the kids loved the toys and the fact that they got treated well with drinks and sweets.
Now i think i might go for a second hand 3 series saloon but whats the difference as there is a 318 and 320 both with the same 2 littre engine.
now i know that you get a 140ish and a 170 ish power output or there abouts but the car i got an insurance quote on came up as 120 hp is that right as i thought they just came in the two outputs.
and again thanks in advance Read more
Am I right in thinking that the lower output pre 57 (ish) plate 4 cylinder Diesels have a turned down exhaust and no DPF ?
Thereafter it's a decorative oval pipe on 4 cylinder cars both petrol and diesel with the 143 and 177 PS outputs for the diesels and DPFs.
I thought that Efficient Dynamics with stop/start but the same power outputs appeared in mid 2008 for the 2009MY.
Hi, I need some advice. I had an accident two months ago where a motorhome went down the side my car as I was stationary and caused light damage to rear quarter panel, bumper and door.
I had a witness so no problems there. I have had the car assesed by my insurance and was valued at £1750. The repair work will be around £1290. They said it would probably be written off and I could buy it back for £280.
But as I'm going through their insurance, I wondered does any know from experience what they will do with the sums as £1290 is less than paying me £1750 surely?
I would prefer the money and have the car back as it's only light damage which I can live with. I've yet to have an offer or anything. Apparently the third party insurance haven't been able to contact the policy holder and he has until the 16th to do so or they will take care with it without him.
Advice please??? Read more
.just wondered really if anyone new what percentage of the vehicle value to the repair up to?
>>>
>>>>> Doesnt work like that it more depends on what throughput the assigned bodyshop has for a particular week/availability of parts/hire car charges etc, basically its a lottery.
Ive seen cars repaired that cost more than the current write off value and still been rejected by the customer after a prolonged battle ,years in some cases
my car stop when i take cam sensor off the car start but it rattles very bad so i replaced new cam sensor still have the same problem any solutions? Read more
hi is it petrol or diesel. if diesel sounds like your timing belt has sliped/ jumped a tooth or two as car will run in get home mode if 1 sensor goes down. if petrol i would think the vvt unit either gear or acutator at fault. is there any codes showing or the eml on? that might give you a place to start
hope this helps

Tee Hee. Don't let on to my neighbours...
Had this car 2 years and still brilliant no faults or anything. But since all the heavy rain we have been having the inside of the car windows have been smothered in condensation and takes a good 2 mins to get rid of with the aircon and demisters. Had a look in the tyre well this morning and the felt pad at the bottom is soaking wet (no standing water) I know when you open the boot door that water runs off it quiet a bit but does not fall in the car and i cant for the life of me find out where the water ingress might be happening.
any body have any ideas on this

Hi Tony,
I managed to fix the leak by using clear Silicone Sealant all the way around the roof bar
fixing. I'm afraid you will have to wait for a realy dry period or bite the bullet and let Mr Ford
fix for about £150.
I'm ok so far, but I hope it lasts

Hi, my seat belt warning light keeps flashing when Im driving, my seat belt is on. Cheers Read more
Mine came on permanently.
It cost me seventy quid at a Nissan main dealer to diagnose the plug connection under the front passenger seat was iffy and extinguish the light.
I couldn't find anyone with the gear to read the diagnostics other than a Nissan dealer. Earlier models could be done with a paper clip across the diagnostic socket and counting dash light flashes.
While the light is on, the air bags and seat belt pre-tensioners are disabled!
what is the best way to remove the air bag so i can remove the steering wheel so as i can repair the horn contacts. cheers rich Read more
Disconnect battery first. With the steering wheel in the straight ahead position there are 2 access holes in the hub of the steering wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock.Use a small flat blade screwdriver and insert it in a horizontal action into the centre of the wheel .You should feel it butt up against a spring bar.A gentle push should release the claw one side and do the same the other side. The air bag should then lift off.Be carefull with the plastic flexi cable. There is no need to remove the wheel to repair the horn connector. Also be warned that if the ignition is turned on with the airbag disconnected, then a re-set tool may be needed to put the a/bag warning light out.hth
i have just changed all 4 injectors on my mondeo and now it has full power, no error codes. However the noise on idle before and after the injector change is still there, seems to be coming from timing chain area. car has done 74k and drives nicely, the noise on idle seems to go when pressing on, though still can be heard at times when driving. Could it be a tensioner or pulley? Has anyone else had this problem? It is quite loud, esp. when idling Read more
The crankshaft auxilliary drivebelt pulley sometimes breaks up.
They are of a rubber type sandwich construction which gradually disintegrates.
Take a look at the auxilliary drive belt tensioner at tickover.
If it is bouncing around, the bottom pulley has probably gone semi-oval.

Feel a lot better tonight thanks :)
