01 2.0 air bag - richbev

what is the best way to remove the air bag so i can remove the steering wheel so as i can repair the horn contacts. cheers rich

Disconnect battery first.With the steering wheel in the straight ahead position there are 2 access holes in the hub of the steering wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock.Use a small flat blade screwdriver and insert it in a horizontal action into the centre of the wheel .You should feel it butt up against a spring bar.A gentle push should release the claw one side and do the same the other side.The air bag should then lift off.Be carefull with the plastic flexi cable.There is no need to remove the wheel to repair the horn connector.Also be warned that if the ignition is turned on with the airbag disconnected,then a re-set tool may be needed to put the a/bag warning light out.hth
