When starting from cold the above lights do not go out - the oil level is correct and the engine performs fine - if I move the handbrake slightly both lights flicker as though they are connected in some way - after around 15 minutes of driving both slowly fade to going out as they should - any ideas please? I have a 2000 corsa 1.4 sri it starts fine and runs ok until it reaches about 2-3000 revs then is very lumpy but is better when it gets above 4000 revs sometimes it is rough at low revs but not always.
At fast cruising speeds it is fine and will go from 50-80mph with no problem but drop back to low speeds and it is back again.
I have tried coil pack, lamda sensor, injectors but no luck yet i have been told that this model has no mass air meter which i believe is a common fault on corsas any help appreciated
Many thanks

It muse have some sort of air metering device, I am not familier with this engine but it is a Euro II engine or even Euro III so it will have one. Some of the older 1.4s had MAP sensors but this car has the newer 1.4 16v Ecotec block.
Have you had a fault code done? Start there before anything else. It also be worth having a compression check done. Don't go round randomly changing parts it is the most expensive way of doing it.
Recently went t Finland on business and hired a car, rented a Focus got a Opel people carrier
Three days later I returned the car to the airport, the man on the desk accepted the keys
Now my credit card has been charged for an extra £135, as a switch in the rear was damaged and the aerial was missing.
OK picked the car in the dark, checked it best I can but the only time I opened the back door was to put a jacket on the back seat and to take it out again. The aerial was there when I left it
It is the firs time I ever been charged by a rental company.
But how can they get away with retro charging Read more
This firm has a fleet of shiny new Transits - I was rather relived when the Renault stepped out of the ranks - despite its appearance a solid van which returned good economy. (A tenner's diesel for 65 miles)
Can some one advise if my car can run on 97RON petrol as well as 95RON, will the engine managment system automatically adjust to runing on 97RON Read more
I'm after a couple of tyres to put on some spare wheels for trialling/grass autotesting. I will NOT be using them on the road.
I've been looking at eBay, and a lot of new 'BN' rated tyres are coming up very cheap, such as these: tinyurl.com/y9awu8q
I can't find what this designation means. Any ideas?
I'm also open to suggestions as to which brand and pattern would be best. M & S are NOT permitted.
There's an awful lot available: tinyurl.com/yar87m9 Read more
It's already happening in France - everything official is reduced to acronyms, it's worse than the British Army (have you ever seen all those mystery road sign arrows around Salisbury Plain?). It's very confusing for foreigners, even for the French themselves.
A French friend recently returned to teaching in France after a year away teaching in Africa. She had deliberately to spend a long time familiarising herself with the latest strings of initials in use, so she could understand what her new bosses and colleagues were talking about.
My 8 year old niece has reached the magical hight of 1.35 meters. However my sister has insisted I carry on using the booster seat when she is my car,, well no me personally, but you know what I mean.
But from my point of view it isa pain in the neck, the bucket seats in my MX8 make it hard to fit and then I need to move it from car to car and when not in use storing it.
So is there any advantages of keeping a child in a booster seat after they reached the required height? Read more
The EU regulation specifies that children under 12 and less than 1.50 m require a child seat with a dispensation allowing the UK to set a lower figure of 1.35 m. I would take that to be an indication that it is safer to use a child seat until the 1.50 m height has been reached.

My daughter was in a bit of a pickle a couple of years back and needed a car as a matter of urgency. I bought a new Fiesta for her - One third deposit, approx another third over three years and the rest as a final payment or return the car. I now find out that she has never had the car serviced since she has had it! So the option of handing the car back (a bad one anyway) has gone, but the chances of selling it I think have now diminished greatly.
Can anyone tell me in percentage terms what the car is now worth compared to the same car fully serviced?
Thanks.

I feel sorry for Frederick, but as far as I can tell he's shelled out everything for the car so far.
In that case it's been his car and, if it were me, I'd have checked it was getting serviced or had it done myself.

that could be the same warehouse
Very possibly ZK....My pal was certainly in the trade 20 yrs ago.
Sounds like too much of a co-incidence not to be. He's got some good tales to tell, was involved with the Riverdance...I wouldn't have minded going with him to see that from close up.

Friday morning 1:10 to 3:05 Men and Motors
Quite possibly the seventy billionth airing Men and Motors have been showing today the history of the Sierra. It may be of interest to some of the Backroomer's to record for watching on a wet and windy weekend.
Early seveties style infomertial introducing the range during the opening twenty minutes, reminded me of the opening of the Full Monty selling Sheffield. I missed the "thanks to steel, Sheffield really is a city on the move!" tagline for the Sierra though.

Saw a blue Sierra Sapphire Azura on Tesco's car park the other day and, to my surprise, thought that the rear end in particular looked unexpectedly old fashioned.
I put forward the the `smart phone` - as you may know, I`ve been getting used to one this last week.
1) you can phone for help
2)Text for help
3)Skype for help
4) Morse code at night for help, with the flash (was it a candle at 20+ miles)
5) Flog it to someone passing by and use the money to go home in a taxi
6) Google maps + built in Sat detection, (find your way out of the Blair Witch Woods) soon to be charge free Sat Nav - thus giving all the dedicated Nav players the boot.
7) You could short out the battery to start a fire to semaphore/smoke signal for help.
Any more?
Or you may not want help, but instead could offer help, amusement or irritation on forums all around the world - from that remote swamp - with just a transmitter poking over the nearby ridge.

Best supportive gadget to the motorist/car.....
Clearly a jack! It's obvious.

Handbrake light usually doubles up as the low brake fluid warning light. I take it you've also checked the level of that? It probably isn't the cause of the problem (sounds more electrical - bad earth maybe?) but it's still worth checking the brake fluid level anyway, seeing as the light for it is on.
