As I was driving the car started to overheat. As i pulled over put the car in neutral and tried to switch the car off but instead the engine just went on full throttle and would not cut off with ignition it revved up for a few mins and then switched off by itself as it cooled down i tried starting it. it starts and runs but lacks pulling power in low gears. turbo is working ok have some doubts on flyby wire system worried about car going into in its automatic mode of revving to the max without pressing of the throttle pedal. would like to know if you can help. look forward to your replies. A suggestion to reduce the attractivness of stolen number plates:
To print on new plates the type and colour of the vehicle they are intended to fit.
I know that the script would have to be rather small to fit the space available, but when stationary it would be quite obvious.
What do BR's think?
(Don't tell me the idea has been considered and rejected a thousand times before, be kind, after all it's nearly Christmas). Read more
Was sent a NIP for 'parking on the pavement' a few years back.
Knowing I've never done that in my life, and that on the day of the alleged offence my car was parked at miles away, and I was in the office all day, I looked up the street where the offence took place. Never been there in my life.
Armed with email record and office phone bill, went to the traffic department, explained the whole thing to some idiot... STILL got a summons.
Went to court, explained situation to prosecutor, pointed out that the fine (R60) was pocket change, but that I was worried that the cloned car would be used in some other crimes.
Sorted... and to this day i haven't received any NIPs, though I know I've been flashed a few times!
Obviously there is a 'flag' on my number plate on their system...
One for the Bikers on here.............
Am I too old at 62 to do my CBT and ny direct acces to ride a bike again?
I always used to ride a BSA Bantam, a Tiger Cub and my trusty Aerial Leader but that went when the new laws came in restricting how long you could have a provisional licence.
We have recently acquired a Kawasaki 450 LTD for me ( as well as the Fazer for Mr PDA) in the hope that I can get through a test. The problem is I have very arthritic hands from years of roping & sheeting lorries, and now have trouble reaching and controlling the cluth and brake lever.
Any suggestions please?
Pat

One of the lightest bikes is the Suzuki SV650, only about 170kg. There's an unfaired version and the S, with slightly lower bars and a half fairing. Also the Hornet 600 is light and compact. I have a Bandit 650S, which is extremely comfortable but a little heavy at slow speed and in/out of the garage. I may swap for an SV or Hornet in the Spring.I also ride a CBF 500,which is absolutely great in all respects.
I found the bike training enlightening and it massively improved my driving observation and defensive skills. Good luck.
1. What you can do: Think of your tachometer as a watt-meter.
2. What other people can do: if drivers of "white vans" observed their proper speed limits, there might be more fuel to go round. Read more
I suspect that a weeks mimsing around can be written off by a good slip road acceleration. Go for smooth keeping up with the flow, the pennys you may save by mimsing are not worth the bother.
I had a test drive in a 2.2 HDI 173 in an 07 reg C5 and thought the engine was a gem and a likely candidate to replace my present car.
Does this engine have the problems of corroded injectors like the earlier 2.2 HDI?
As the owner of an older C5, I'm not scared of the rest of the car!
Thanks

It's close enough, so I'd like to wish all BackRoom members (and guests, lurkers, ect) a Happy Christmas.
Without your contribution and input, this place would not be what it is, so I thank you for that.
Have a good time whatever it is you'll be getting up to, and I hope you also have a prosperous new year.
Dave.

So it's come to this.....5 to 10 on New Year's Eve and I'm in the BR. Give me strength.
Still I read that several hundred people filed their tax returns on-line this day last year so there are still several levels left for me to fall.
Have a safe and prosperous 2009.

Hello,
Just wonderd what is life one should expect from a reconditioned starter motor,
The reason I ask is because I fitted one about 14 months ago on the missus mondeo and now it toast is this the norm or should I expect it to last longer,Personally I would have thought a lot longer as they are not cheap and if I have to keep replacing its gonna work out very expensive,
Thanks

Got in touch with the shop who I bought it from and they said that they would have a look at it,Hopefully with a view of replacing it,(fingers crossed)
In that it will force companies who have a weak customer ethos to either sharpen up or go out of business. Quick example: local car dealer has all their cars advertised on their website, along with AutoTrader. The cheaper ones all have "0" entered for the mileage in order to solicit visits or calls about the car, when it's clear that they must have some astronomical figure.
Want to lie to me about that? No doubt they'll be lying about service history, faults, and offer shoddy aftersales service too. Just little things that can instantly turn you off a company. Read more
Pat, i hope you're right, but i shan't be holding me breath.
This attitude thing you correctly allude to has been the case for many years, i don't think the newer drivers themselves are any worse than the general population (but acting as a thuggish bully with a large truck does stand out some), though true to say that many thought there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
If they bothered to listen to some of us old hands, we could have told them that virtually any driver at the top of the wage tree works unbelievably hard for many hours in difficult, dirty and often dangerous conditions, and many of them are just not capable of that hard graft.
You mentioned in another thread having the aches and pains the direct result of years of that graft, i'm much the same, there's very few parts that don't hurt a lot of the time.
I wonder how many of the younger one's will be left once this recession really gets going.
