Ive been offered a jag 2.0tdci on an 05 for around £3000 with 100k on the clock. Car has been a company car and full jag service history. The car was filled with petrol a while ago and has had a £2k bill from jag and now seems to be running fine. Its also on its 2nd clutch - is this usual?
Anyway what im after is some advice - is this a good deal and are these cars anygood?
I dont do a great mileage but would like something decent to upgrade my Astra from.
The car is a Silver Jag saloon 2.0D Classic. Glass's guide is £4125.

Thanks

Chances are some of you are driving a car that was once misfueled. I guess the worst prone cars are those that have been ex rentals with many people driving them. Ex rentals are on forecourts and 'Approved used' car schemes such as Ford Direct.

From Greenflag...
Men are more likely to put the wrong fuel in their car ? and more likely to run out of petrol while on the road, according to recent research by roadside rescue company Green Flag.

More than one in ten accident-prone Brits have filled up their car with the wrong type of fuel according to new research. Half of those caused so much damage to their vehicle it took on average of £125 to repair after the cock-up.

And if we Brits aren?t putting in the wrong type of fuel ? we aren?t putting any in at all ? almost half of us have run out of petrol or diesel according the survey of 4,000 motorists by Green Flag.

But men are more likely to put diesel in a petrol car or vice versa, according to Green Flag. A preoccupied 14 per cent of blokes admitted to putting in the wrong fuel compared to only ten per cent of females.

My factory fitted radio set on fire. I bought a second hand one, which works fine but there is no display on the centre column screen. This is proving to be a real headache as the Sat Nav wont show up and the Air Con is now on all the time and I can not turn it off, Nissan want a hefty sum to look at it which is money I just don't have. Does anybody have an Idea as to why the screen wont come on and the air con wont turn off any help would be most appreciated.

which part of the country are you in ? when I inquired at my local Nissan in North London about retro - fitting a reverse camera to work with the central screen of my 04 X Trail , they just gave me the details of their local mobile auto - electrician . Maybe you can try the same approach ?

I placed an order request at work for the lease company to arrange for my chosen replacement car - a 2008 Mazda 6 Estate in Stormy Blue.

Months have since passed and the lease company is saying that they are unable to get hold of any estates whatever the colour as they are discontinued. This is despite my investigation with the local dealer who said they are available and orders are being taken fir specific models that are not.

The lease company are still sticking to their story, and are advising I should choose another car. I would obviously rather stick to my original choose, especially now the rates have risen considerably out reach of my allowance.

Has anyone else had this trouble, or got any advice? Read more

If you ordered a diesel then the new 2.2 litre diesels are imminent. So if you ordered a 2.0 estate and non in stock then you're out of luck. Looks like you'll miss out on the cheaper price too.

I got a Mazda6 back in October 2007 - the old shape. I ordered in plenty of time and made sure the lease company secured one in dealer stock because I knew they were starting to get ready for the new Mazda6.

Sounds like the cheaper price was for outgoing models and they are all gone. My Mazda6 was cheap for this reason too.

I checked the level on my wife's car today and it has dropped significantly (but not to the 'minimum') from 6 months ago when new shoes were fitted and the fluid level set was then set at 'maximum'.

I can't see any evidence of a leak around the wheels or anywhere else so might it be normal for the shoes to bed in causing the brake fluid level to drop a tad? Read more

Shoe wear doesn't significantly affect the level - pad wear most certainly does.

Hi,
I have a ford III focus 2008 1.6 L petrol with automatic gearbox, I have bought the car one month ago it have made 1700 KM, I?ve start hearing a strange noise from the gear box as follows:
1)When slowly accelerating almost at 40 km/h the shifting to the 3rd gear make a law scratch noise, the odd thing is when really pushing the pedal (accelerating) I hear nothing & the shifting goes smooth.
2)When slowing done (almost stopping 10 km/h) the shifting down to the 1st gear makes a very slight noise like a click.
No service light or any error message has shown, I have contacted the ford dealer and he told me: < its nothing & ordinary noise! you only should care if the service light check engine or a error message is displayed>
I don?t buy what he said, please advice what is that noise & could it harm or destroy the gear box in the future, I?m really scared & feel bad when hearing this noise, I think it should not exist.

Thanks in advance for you help!

Grateful for any advice as in a bit of a conundrum here, and apologies in advance for the length of the post!

Decided we would part exchange both of our cars for one family car, and went to a garage this morning to try to get a good deal.

The cars we want to part exchange are -
55 reg Honda Civic VTEC Sport with 56000 miles
56 reg Nissan Micra c+c Essenza with 9000 miles

Both in very good condition, especially the Micra.

We were looking to buy a new Honda Civic Type S, and had the Parker/What Car etc baseline valuations to hand for our old cars - about £5000 for the Civic and £7700 for the Micra.

So we were a bit shocked when we were offered £9500 for the both of them - indeed, we were shown the guidebook which apparently confirms these prices (though I am pretty sure they could do better than these!). Furthermore, Honda didn't want to budge on the price of a new Type S, saying they may be able to knock a couple of hundred quid off the exchange cost (which would be £7500 to start with).

I realise it's not a great time to be buying/selling cars (particularly for Honda!) but I am pretty shocked at the part exchange prices being offered - particularly offering only £5450 for a car which is less than 2 years old, which was worth £15000 new. I would have thought that Honda would be prepared to compromise on the cost of a new car if they are offering such low part exchange prices, but they didn't seem bothered when I said I'd go to other garages to see how much they could undercut the price.

Possibilities are:
- Keep both cars, which seems pointless since one of them is seldom used and is apparently devaluing at £375-ish per month, according to the guide Honda used..plus I could really do with a diesel given that I do around 18000 miles a year
- Take the deal above - just does not seem good value to me though!
- Try a different Honda dealer - though are they just going to say the same thing?
- Perhaps part exchange the Civic and try to sell the Micra privately to get more money - although that may take some time and I'd rather not have it sit there for another 6-12 months waiting for a buyer

Any other options? Drivethedeal has good deals on new Civics (e.g. 5 door EX down from £19k to £16k) but would need to sell both cars privately, presumably.

Does anyone else think it unreasonable to offer such paltry part exchange prices while refusing to budge on the price of a new car? Read more

No problems with leakage -no problems at all in fact.Pretty well screwed together and the 2.0 sport is the one to go for.But don't whatever you do buy new. That's a great wedding present idea though.Congratulations.If you need to know anything else e-mail me and I'll try and help.

Hello Chaps

I've got a problem with my 2001 Mondeo 2.0ltr Diesel - 155000 miles

I get blueish white smoke when starting from cold and the engine runs a little lumpy'
this clears up after a while and it runs fine until it gets hot, it then starts to misfire a bit and then gets worse until it stops and won't restart until it's cold.
I have replaced the fuel filter - cleaned the EGR - replaced the temp sensor, with no effect

Any ideas Read more

It could be

Camshaft or crankshaft sensor, any one of numerous electrical joints, a blocked cat, several other sensors, fuel pump or injectors.

The only way you're going to find out is to take it to a decent diesel specialist. It could be very expensive.

Did you notice where they were actually made?

Probably a very high profit margin because of where they came from!

Another reason to support Europe (if not GB) made products. Bit late now though ! But no big company (or government) has seen that lower profits could actually have bigger benefits!

The reason for the crunch imo, mostly greed. Pure Greed !
