I did this today, never bothered before but since my mum works for the company, I was able to clarify what is and isnt allowed.
I was following a double-decker on a twisting 60 mph stretch and at ever opportunity, the bus driver wound it up to about 62 ish, which according to a friend of my mum who is learning to drive a bus, 12 mph over the limit for a bus on a single-carriaway national limit. BTW my indicated speed was 65 on the speedo and 62 on the sat-nav.
It wasnt so much that id been looking at first when I was following the bus, more that he was braking quite hard into corners and on a very wet road so I started paying more attention.
He also went through a 30 section in a village at atleast 40 odd given the rate he was leaving me behind, but since I would have to break the limit to keep up, I hung back and caught him up later on in the bends.
How dangerous is driving a big bus like that in such conditions? I was told the driver would likely get a slap on the wrist and be reminded of the limits for buses unless he had already been reported or caught before. What are the grip levels like? I know they can lean a fair bit but the tyres never look that grippy to me when im at the bus station! Read more
Have a 2007 focus 1.8 diesel the speedo will not always go back to zero. when stopped it sometimes stays on 10 mph. whilst driving it is reading at least 10 mph fast. then at other times its fine??? Read more
A warantee job, let them sort it out for you, could be a number of things.
Some years ago I bought a 1964 998cc Mini Morris Cooper MK1 that was tarten red with a black roof in colour & was some what boy racer-ed up with alloys, bucket seats, engine modifications, roll cage, aftermarket mirrors etc etc.
Having bought it my father said it had surely been re painted as although there was a red and black one when new in 1964, the colour was a different shade. My father bought one new in the same year in almond green/old english white roof & wheels.
Due to this I contacted DVLA to find out for sure & at my enjoyment my father was right, but also the original colour was the exact same as the one he bought new all those years ago.
I set about totally stripping the car & revitalising it back to its original condition & specification. OK it took around 12 months & the rolling shell was at the paint shop for 4/5 months but is was worth it for the end result.
For the time afterwards it was a joy & pleasure to own & run but then the time had come where I wanted something more refined as well as larger.
This is where I made a BIG mistake.......LOL !
I put a for sale sign in the window & within days the car was sold to a guy who although had the funds to buy it, I later realised he new nothing of what he had bought, as in only a month later I saw the car back with big alloys, big aftermarket mirrors, a loud exhaust the bumpers replaced for later ones.
While some of those modifications could be returned back to standard, the mirrors could not as the original car had no mirrors fitted to the door side.
Some years have gone on & now & again I wonder if that car is still going now & if so what does it look like.
It just goes to show, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder ! Read more
I saw my old E30 BMW 318 a while after I'd traded it in.
Big wheels accident damage ironing board spoiler bolted to the bootlid and various other indignities.
Ina way it was like seeing an ex girlfriend on a street corner swinging a
handbag... :)
Good One Ian, LOL !
I've arranged to buy a car. Signed contract, arranged finance, sent the forms back.
Now suppose I don't actually get the car until 2 December, ie after VAT goes down. On a £12,000 car, 2.5% is £300, so a not inconsiderable sum.
Should the price of my car go down?
I should say that I don't really mind if it goes into the Exchequer. What I don't want is for the dealer to pocket the difference.

strictly speaking you are correct! - to a point, but is the head of a political party not elected by the party members?. Then upon that party being elected into power by the public at an election, does the "P.M elect" not appear before H.M at B/Palace to be "accepted" as her Prime minister, and then be invited to form a government as her representative in the "commons"?

Hullo.
We recently replaced the HCValve in my Fiesta as the engine was overheating. But since doing so the engine is showing a low and fluctuating operating temperature. It gets to the middle, then dips, then gets back up there... It doesn't move very fast but it doesn't stay still much either.
Any ideas why this might be happening? This is over the course of a 40 minute journey to work.

Yes the thermostat was changed as well as the HCV, and it doesn't take an inordinate amount of time to heat up, its just not staying hot consistently.
Hiya
2.5d Non turbo Renault Master (not in the model list above - so included here - {now added}). Engine S8U I think.
Makes a ticking sound whilst driving under load? Knocking? High pitched and quite quick. (tick-tick-tick-tick-tick....)
Do diesels knock?
If so any idea's what might cause / can be done about it.
Its just having a service (mainly fuild changes etc) & MOT at present - so hopeful that will help....
Cheers

Do diesels knock?

Appreciate some advice on my situation. Went with daughter at weekend to local Ford dealer to but a new Ka which they are offering on PCP at 4.9%. Unfortunately daughter is refused finance due to (we think) problems she has several years ago at Uni. she has now been working two years and still paying these off.
So I offer to guarantee the deal-not accepted. The only way to proceed is for me to take the PCP out in my name which I am happy to do and she will pay me back monthly.
Now the problem is that I have to be the keeper on the V5 as terms of the finance. yet her insurance company will only insure her (she has 5 years ncb) if she is on the V5. So these are mutually exclusive conditions.
This cant be a unique situation so I would like to have some view on how we can proceed legally.
Many thanks

Old KA is prone to rust and I wouldnt want my daughter driving one - have you seen one after a crash. Either buy the safer Fiesta or perhaps something more modern like a Peugeot 207. The Ka, while good in its day is now 12 years old and is an old design in terms of safety.
We used to have 3 year old Ka's on the forecourt with rust around the rear wiper seal. Crazy.
The van`s 3 years old now, never been polished, but this is what I do underneath.
The grease on the subframes (as pictured today) has been on two years - Castrol CL waterproof grease. I touched up the brake pipes - not really needed - last August.
On the sump is high temperature Castrol HMP grease.

All the little nuts/fasteners + alloy in the engine bay are touched with WD 40.
Underneath and the engine bay are rinsed regularly with a low pressure domestic hose in winter.
There is some more grease not seen in the pics, but the actual bodywork is galvanised - as you know.
Of note, is how the main chassis members retain the waterproof grease two years on. You can see the ripples that indicate the thickness of the grease in the pics too.

I had engine management light come on and so had the fault codes read, it came up with 19586 egr system control range exceeded p3130 intermittent.
I had the egr valve removed and it was cleaned as the valve plunger area was coked up, valve was put back on and fault code removed from ecu. however it has come back on again with the same fault.
any ideas??
its a lovely car but this blooming engine light is annoying me, i want it to go away on a more permanent basis, to put it nicely. Read more
Check the EGR operating solenoid and it's hoses for a vacuum leak.
Hi - i previously posted that this would not start after stalling it - thanks for the replies to that - it was the fuel pump that needed replacing and the car worked fine for couple of months - until now. The car was parked on an incline for the first time since it was repaired and now it fires but won't start - is it likely to be the same problem? any other ideas? many thanks Read more
cheers

Saw a "Royal Mail" van yesterday-labelled "this vehicle is limited to 70 mph".
