Even though my fuel guage looks fine when I turn the key, it starts showing higher values as I progress through the journey. (sometimes even full tank) This was not happening until recently. can someone put more light on this ? Read more

25 years ago I was stopped doing an estimated 50 in a 30 mile an hour limit (I was showing off to my mate and it was appalling driving on my part). Police Officer saw how crestfallen I was, gave me an extended talking to then let me go with what we used to call 'A 5 day wonder'.

2 months ago I was stopped doing 42 in a 30. Another rollocking, then sent on my way.

Not sure we should be encouraging a bragging thread, and I can imagine where it might go, so locked...

SWMBO had an experience we've probably all had at some point.

On the way to work one morning this week she followed a driving school off a roundabout NSL A road, the school car was pretty slow and levelled out at 40mph or so, so swmbo in pick up overtakes, always rapidly by the way.
Once alongside she realises that the school car is pacing her, so she has to boot the vehicle considerably more to get by safely.
Yes she could have braked and tucked in behind, but anyone idiotic enough to accelerate hard when someone is overtaking could really do anything, so she didn't trust the car not to outbrake her instead.

The thing that surprised her most was that the school car only had one person in it, presumably an instructor?

Why do people do this. Read more

As the wagon is limited by law and device would suggest it is easier for
us (unlimited) car drivers to either keep out of the way or make the overtake
nice and easy.

I quite agree - as far as I am concerned they're both bad drivers - if it's going to take you 5 miles to overtake you shouldn't be doing it, and had I been the car driver I wouldn't have let it happen. I assume the car was on cruise and the driver just being bloody-minded.

Hey guys,

So I'm driving around like a happy chap in my cheap reliable primera, then when i put heavy pressure on the brakes to stop at around 10-15mph... the ABS kicks in when it does'nt need to, but not only that... it does'nt stop the car!

And it then happened a few more times, ABS kicking in for no reason but not doing anything to stop the car... had to use the handbreak to prevent knocking a shiny BMW

I dont have an ABS light on or anything, the garage says its most likely the ABS pump... which will cost upto £1300 to repair / replace.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I am a skint musician who paid £800 for the car itself, so I guess I may have to sell it :(

The pumps you can pick up for 80 quid on ebay reconditioned, so why are they so expensive to fit?

Why are people trying to fool the MOT tester? I'll admit I once put in stop smoke to hide the fact my car beleched out a load of blue smoke but I was planning to sell it very shortly afterwards and my dad was using the car at the time so it eas crucial it passed the MOT.

But when it comes to safety such as ABS etc I am usualy glad when it fails, as there were faults I had no idea about. These are usualy not my cars though (just cars I paid for). Now I have my own hopefully I can spot any dangerious faults when driivng and get them fixed ASAP. I have already replaced two slightly suspect tyres, a number plate and a couple of other things because they are safety related issues (apart from reg plate).

If people are so poor they have to resort to hiding things in an MOT maybe they cannot afford to run a car.

Sorry for the rant :).

Anywya to the OP I hope your car is fixed cheaply I never understand why and how garages can even dream of quoting £1300 to fix an 11/12 year old car.

In my younger days (when I was a cyclist) it was accepted practice for cyclists to glance over their shoulder before changing position on the road, e.g. passing a parked vehicle. Even if they're not taught to do it, I would have thought it would be obvious it was essential for self-preservation. Read more

Last time I glanced over my shouolder when cycling I needed a new pair of shorts due to how close the car behind was.

I saw some ' bikers " on the news tonight, outside a crown court.
Having followed the trial, it's clear they did themselves and the bike world very little credit.
Letting them squeeze between cars is akin to jumping the queue at the post office because you are slimmer and quicker than others around you. Bad call IAM.

I bought a peugeot 406 with a badly damaged remote key. The blade is fine and works well. However, the fob is missing the rubber buttons and one of the smaller buttons(that will be under the rubber part) on the chip also. I know this key is still working as I can short the switch to lock and unlock my car.

I did think of buying a new fob but I am not able to take out the key blade to insert into the new fob.

I have 2 questions :

1. Is there any way I can buy the buttons and also the internal buttons and make this key fob work.

2. How do I take out the key blade from my existing key fob? (some forums said to pull using brute force but I would think there is a better method)

Please advice. My aim is to have a working remote key in the most economical way. Read more

Thanks, I have thought about separate fob and key as the last option. I will keep looking for some more time and see if I get some other solution.
