Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 1996 2.0 Fuel guage irregular

1996 2.0 Fuel guage irregular - vvprabhu
Even though my fuel guage looks fine when I turn the key, it starts showing higher values as I progress through the journey. (sometimes even full tank) This was not happening until recently. can someone put more light on this ?
