The driver who avoided parking ticket by refusing to get out of his towed-away car for TWO HOURS

So if you are inside car, it can't be towed away :o) Read more

the car ended up or how much it cost, i just wanted my best mate back

Only a married dog owner would understand that statement. :-(

I still miss the cocker we put down in January. The replacement is my buddy but howls to the depth of its black soul when left in car - enough to deter even the most hard hearted warden.

Hi, I very stupidly let my car run out of diesel the other day, she started fine when I put fuel in her and I drove to work. I then drove home and it was still ok (although the engine diagnostics light was on) but when I tried to start her again it wouldnt kick in, I am assuming there is air in the fuel line? Can anybody tell me where I can find this 'nipple or pear shaped' thing to let air out of the line?

When trying to find this illusive nipple I could hear a noise that was either air being expelled or taken in seemingly coming from the filter or the main head.

I'm sorry if this doesnt make any sense as I am a car novice but any info would be much appreciated!!

Thanks

Hi Steve,

Thanks for that, I think I might be a little bit out of my depth on this one! Somebody suggested towing the car for a few miles? I'm not sure how that would help?

The weird thing is that I started it and ran it twice after running out with no problems and then when I tried to start it a 3rd time, nothing. If I leave it for half an hour or so and then turn it over it seems as if it tries to start and then back to nothing again.

Really confused!! Prob going to have to book into the garage so they can take all of my hard earned money me thinks!!

Cheers

just seen a car parked on double yellows on a busy road. It was quite obvious the driver was not the disabled person but the passenger, an elderley lady holding two sticks was. I know I'm making assumptions but let's assume it was mother and son.

If he parked there because he has the badge in his car, but chose to get out of his car in order to run an errand, and the disabled passenger stayed where she was, is this an abuse of the system and if seen, can a traffic warden challenge the driver as to why he parked where he did?

I can fully understand it if the parked there to allow the lady to get out and walk a few feet to the front door of the shop/office/bank etc, but how is it perceived if this was for purely his own purposes. Read more

"disabled person's badge" means a badge in the form prescribed by regulation 11 issued by a local authority for display on a motor vehicle driven by a disabled person, or used for the carriage of a disabled person.

If the scenario was as suggested then this is abuse of the scheme and not only allow a CEO to ticket but could provide grounds for the LA to take it away.

In recent years I have purchased all my cars with aircon.
With advice from HJ and others I run the aircon on a regular basis, even in winter. Usually for de-misting. And run it on full heat to supposedly kill off bugs/bacteria etc.

To eradicate the pungent aroma that occurs from time to time, I have tried two shop bought aerosols to kill off any bugs and get the ventilation smelling more sweetly. I won't name the two products but they are different makes. I have used both in the past and twice in the last month and have not shifted the smell.

Is there an alternative to these aerosols, and if so what. Or is their any personal remedies the BRs can recommend.

I would be grateful for your advice. Read more

Yeah thanks. The two cans I tried were similar and the process the same. Two cans in a month. And they're not cheap. Probably change the pollen filter next. Let you know if it clears it up.

I'm just changing the front brake pads on my 306. It has the Bosch calipers fitted, the pads I've removed have a hole at the top and bottom of the pads with a spring tensioner fitted in them. I've bought replacement pads from Halfords, I double and triple checked the park reference, 98 bosch caliper fitting (been caught out before at Halfords) I checked both Halfords own and the Ferrodo pads, and both now seem to use a different system. The pads don't have holes and springs but come with loose clips? Has anyone any experience of using these and how the clips work?

Hi there!

when I start my car from cold there is a rattle from the engine bay, sounds like the tappets are really messed up, only for a second or 2, then it returns to normal , which seems to be quite loud too!

Its an ex-moability car and has done 35k and I`m guessing its still under warranty. Also the air con doesn`t work, the light comes on when I press the button but it doesn`t seem to get any cooler, could the problems be related?

I`m just worried that the garage will dismiss the cold start noise as the oil getting round the engine from cold but I`m pretty sure that its not doing any good at all! Also get the aircon regassed and have the same prob. Is the aircon covered under the warranty?

Thanks in advance guys! Read more

The oil was changed about 2000 miles ago, so I don`t think its that, I`ve just read elsewhere that motability use cheap oil, has anyone else any experience of this?

metroturbo

Please help!!!

My 1984 metro turbo(newly aquired) has been sat for over 10 years. it runs for about 2 min's but will not idle and eventualy dies. After fitting new plugs the car again ran for a few min's but then died. on removin the plugs again found them to be black (very sooty) I have been told that the carb is running too rich. I have a rebuild kit for the carb but would prefer not to have to strip it down(I would prob make it worse) The car has 19k on the clock.

Any advise is greatfully recieved

Thanks

Hi

Just out of interest, and for those knowledgeable people on here.

My Girlfriends 08 C4 is a 1.6 diesel, having driven petrol engines for most of my life I was always familiar with the fact that having a diesel meant that when you started you waited for the Glow plug light to go out and then it started.

However the C4 (which is a very nice car to drive) has no lights and starts on the key 1st time just like a petrol engine.

Is this the norm these days (am I that out of touch with advancements in car engineering)? And how does it work? What happens to the pre-heating in these cars

Many Thanks

About a year ago, by chance, I came across a website with very detailled car data (final drive ratios, steering turns lock-lock, exact dimensions). This data was listed for almost all years of almost all cars on the world market. Can anyone post the URL of such a site, I can no longer find it using Google. Read more
