Miller

Going to look at one tomorrow. I know it is a "run-out" model but seems to have a decent spec for the price. Anyone on here own one? Any problems not covered by the warranty? Read more

The Clio is a cracking deal at under 6k, and a sharp looking, decent driving car. Some of the car supermarkets are asking the same money for 20,000 mile 56 platers (in non metallic colours)

SWMBO tells me often that my driving around islands is not correct. It seems I am always in the wrong lane and / or indicating incorrectly.

However since my driving is of course perfect, I blame the lane markings around large islands.

Some of these take the form of an ?outward spiral? and should you follow them, deliver you correctly to your turn off.
There?s a lot that don?t though, one local island has three lanes around it. If you are taking the third exit off, you start on the inside, then pass the second exit, where the lane you should be in is suddenly on the outside of the island. What are you supposed to do, immediately cross over two lanes ?

As an example some may know, try following the markings around the Oldbury island, J2 M5.

Rant over, just wondered if other islands exit where the lane markings appear to have planned by a half-wit.

Now these are serious roundabouts!!!

In the 1970's there used to be a similar set up in Hemel Hempstead that had SEVEN mini roundabouts making up one large intersection. It seemed to work pretty well then. Probably still there.

Car : 1997 Peugeot 306 D-Turbo.

Hello there, I have owned this car for around 8 months and of late has become terrible at starting. It wasn't the best at starting when I first bought it but replacement glow plugs cured this.

Now confession time........approximately four months ago I started using veggie oil (around 5/6 litres per tankful) and the car continued to run normally. About two months ago though and hearing that Lucas fuel pumps don't like the stuff, I quickly ditched the veggie oil idea.

The problem I seem to be now having though is that the car is taking longer than it should to fire up. The fuel filter was changed a month ago which has made no difference.

I thought that it might be an injector problem so I have used some Redex Diesel injector cleaner additive. This was half a tank ago but no improvement has been seen.

Gary. Read more

Thanks for the advice everyone. Took it to a mates garage who tested the plugs and guess what......they were all kaput!

The lucas plugs have been changed for NGK's so i'm hoping that they will last longer than 8 months. I wouldn't care but I live 35 miles from work and the car sees very little short 'stop-start' journeys.

The car now fires up immediately, and i'm a happy motorist once again.

Thanks again,

Regards,

Gary.

Hi all, just pondering over a bit of an insurance claim happening to me at the mo and thought i would put it to the wise folk here for some advice.

About 6 months ago boy falls off bike, i stop to help, next day get call from police, want to discuss accident, appears boy claims i knocked him off.

No damage to car, police take photos, i give statement, advised to tell insurance company, tell them, boy puts a claim in.

Insurance offers boy 50/50, he claims bike wrecked and grazed his arm, bike was an old nacker, graze caused by him falling off bike.(which had carrier bag swinging off handlebar.

He denies that, then comes up with a witness to say the carrier bag was wound tightly round handlebar.

Insurance wants to pay out in full, im not happy with this, and think i should take to court, obviously insurance doesn't want this as costs involved.

I am resonable to ask insurance to pay me out to not take it to court as i am saving them money by no court costs? or should i let them pay him out and end of matter? What is the likely outcome if it goes to court? ( My Insurance company seems to be on his side )

Any comments gratefully welcome. Read more

Pink Elephant (long stay) works well, but naughty BAA whack up charges for school hols, e.g. half term in Oct which is around 30% dearer, regardless of how far ahead you book.

This is my brother-in-law's car so I hope I get this right. Twice his car has failed to start with the problem being the immobiliser (light staying on). On both occasions he left the car overnight and managed to start it the next day after about 20 minutes. Since then the engine malfunction light has been coming on and off for different lengths of time.

Yesterday he took it to a garage and got the following codes
u0001 high speed can communication bus u2510 invalid security data recieved from ecu.
Ford had the car for 2 days but could not find or fix the fault.
The car seems to be running okay once started.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of the clicking/ticking noise, coming from the engine of my Micra? It's not very loud, you can't hear it if you're driving over 30mph.

And does anyone know a good garage in Reading/Slough that will give it a once over without charging/not charging much?

Would greatly appreciate any input.

Hi, i have just bought a 1996 405 executive TD estate and i am getting a booming noise and vibration coming from behind the dashboard, probably the engine bay. (Not had chance to investigate due to the weather).
It increases and decreases with engine speed.
There is no noticable drop in power the car starts fine and has plenty of power and isn't overheating.
It's definately engine related, i am thinking exhaust downpipe.
Also the rev counter isn't working, any ideas?
I am going to phone a mechanic tomorrow and get it looked at.
Cheers

Rev counter now fixed, it was plugged into the wrong plug.

Happy Blue!

There is a very nice new Mazda 6 in our car park. It about two months old.

I looked inside on Friday from the pasenger window and was amazed to find that the gear knob has deep and numerous scratches on the left side where a ring on the ring finger has come into contact with the metallised plastic.

I would not be surprised on a Vauxhall, but on a Mazda?? Where has the interior quality gone? Read more

I put 100,000 miles in 3 yrs on a (leased) 2002 Focus TDDi estate. Driven hard, used for carrying bootfuls of kit all around the country, used for taking stuff to the dump at weekends, and generally worked for a living.

In three years it had 7 services, five sets of front tyres, one set of rear tyres, diesel in the tank, washer fluid in the bottle, and just one unscheduled fault - a chirping auxiliary belt tensioner. Nothing broke, nothing fell off, and when I had it valeted to return to the company at the end of the period, it cleaned up pretty much like new. I would have bought it if I'd had any need for it. Still drove beautifully too with no visible wear on the seats or boot carpet, and no creaks or rattles.

My father sold his 180,000 Mondeo 2.0 GLX on an M plate two years ago to a neighbour who is still driving it. Now on 205,000 miles. Bodywork is looking a little tatty, but the interior is still good, and the mechanicals still fit and healthy. It's even still on the original clutch! It hasn't been serviced for three years!

Hullo everyone..
Thanks for any help/advise with this..

Just walked out to my car to realise that my car has a deep scratch running down the whole length of the drivers side, back license plate ripped off and a dent on the L back door , presumably caused by a kick to the back door..

I live in hospital accomodation and the cars are parked in the carpark and as such there is no CCTV in this area so no way of finding out who was the the offender..

However an obvious suspect is a person who stays in hospital accomodation with whom i have had a minor falling out in the last few weeks..

There were 6 other cars in the carpark and none of the others were damaged..

I am now in a quandary as to what to do??

Do I make a police complaint and mention this suspicion , even though there is no proof even though there appears to be a possible motive ie falling out (there are specific reasons! i declined to get involved in a relationship spat with his now expartner, too complicated however i can elaborate on this).

If so would it help to mention to the police to mention his name or would that not be the right thing to do!

Second problem is driving to the police station without a license plate on the back! Can the police then turn around and accuse me of using a car not fit to be driven on public roads, or would it be safe to drive legally without a license plate

Thirdly anything i can do to prevent a further possible attack on my car ?confronting the person in question or would that be a foolish move?!

Thanks for any advise and help on this! Read more
