Not sure how new this news is, but it was on front page of yesterday's Telegraph (link to Telegraph website): tinyurl.com/6pe9yn

Civilians given power to issue on-the-spot fines

Local government officials and private security workers have been given police powers to enforce on-the-spot fines for littering, dog fouling and motoring offences.

Despite lacking formal police training, hundreds of civilians have been made part of the "extended police family" by the Home Office under little-known legislation.

They have not been asked to wear any special uniforms to identify themselves, but must wear only a badge that can be as small as 73mm x 80mm.

:

Another 255 people have been given powers as Vehicle Operator Services Agency Inspectors, who are issued with the single power to stop vehicles for the purpose of testing.

Given the PCSO Muppets in this video the whole thing scares me stupid. As regards
our rights forget it!

The guy with the Himmler specs and the foreign accent needs serious re-training, the older bod really does little more than look embarassed.

Having said that the camera operator did seem to track and focus on the PCSO - was there perhaps some previous between them???

I could tell you some stories about double glazing - having 2 relations in the
game but that's not motoring is it.

Didn't that huge Merc have double glazing?

I have just purchased a 54 reg Bora 1.9 TDi SE (100hp) after driving the car for 15 mins the ESP warning light comes on and stays on. I have pressed the ESP switch on the dashboard but the only way I have found to turn it off is to switch ignition off and restart.
What should I check to find the fault, could it be brakes or something more sinister?

Some of the latest ncap results included the Daihatsu Cuore (Charade to us). They are selling the latest version in mainland europe but appears we aren't getting them.

Figures from the German site www.daihatsu.de/ show that it can achieve 64MPG combined and get from 0-60 in 11.1 seconds with 104g C02. Not a stunning looking car but much more interesting than some of the small cars we have already. I really wish
Daihatsu would step up their marketing a bit for the present cars and start bringing in these. Read more

Sorry,I don't know what codes were stored, but they said it was more than likely that.I'm on a tight budget and wondered if they are easy enough to fit and buy as I don't want to fork out £60 odd + vat for another diagnotic test.(i got first one free done by a friend).I'd rather have a go myself anas this seems quite common on this model.

Driving this morning to take car for MOT at 80mph on dual carriageway (Italian tune up), and engine management light came on. Mechanic at garage read code (PO132 - I believe this is the o2 sensor). He advised circuit voltage was also high. He cleared code, and car passed MOT - no probs.

FSH - 62000m

Can anyone advise what to do next as driving car home it never came on again???

Many thanks Read more

Maybe it just got a bit excited then; wait and see what happens.

They're around £300, so you don't change them unless you have to. It's in the exhaust; just before the cat.

Back in March, I had four new tyres fitted to my leased Citroen C5 by well known tyre fitter as required by the leasing company. In the last week of July I had the low tyre pressure warning for the N/S Front wheel. I pulled in within a mile or two to a service station for air, but on fitting the hose onto the valve, it broke off. I started to change the aluminium wheel, but had to call the RAC as I couldn't budge the wheel from the hub (clearly the "WKTF" had not copper greased the hubs). The leasing company then required me to use a Citroen dealer to replace the valve/sensor and initially wanted to charge me for the privilege. However, I argued successfully that the valve must have been damaged and that the damage could not have been caused in normal motoring. Then, last week, with the car having been idle for two weeks, the pressure warning appeared again, this time for the O/S Front. I didn't try to add air before I inspected the wheel and, sure enough, the valve/sensor is cracked. One changed wheel later (thanks RAC - no thanks to "WKTF") and the leasing company are now interested in finding out if this is normal through their channels. I thought I'd try this independent route as a fan of Honest John. Anyone out there who can throw any light on the situation as I'm now fearful for the back wheels!

I had exactly the same fate befall my C5 a few months ago. The RAC man that kindly removed the wheel after it had flattened itself when I tried to put some air in it said that the valve are very prone to break in this manner and, once one goes, the others are quite likely to follow. So not sure the fitter can really be blamed - I think it's one feature on an otherwise very nice car that's more trouble than it's worth.

We need to uprate our suspension on our diesel tourer as it drops too low when we hook up the caravan .does anybody know of a specialist garage ? Also concerned as to how it might affect steering geometry

Hi.
I bought a 2000 Honda Cr-V ES Exuutive about a month ago with 109,000 on the clock.
The car has had a brand new exhuast in Nov 07 front to back including a new cat.
I have got the MIL light coming on and have got the code P0420 showing which is Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
One of the silencers (can't tell which one) has like a 'rattle' when revved, someone said it may be a baffler knackred inside one of the boxes.
Phoned local main dealer he said exhaust wouldn't turn light on and it's probaly on of the o2 sensors, but car is running as sweet as a nut and is really good on fuel.
He also said, and I have read this on the net, that they don't like 'aftermarket' cats.
If anybody has any advice on this I would be most gratful.
Regards, Mark

Surely the problem wasn't the car, but the dealer?
Why not take the car elsewhere?

Despairing of my VW Passat again (see separate thread re intermittent ABS problem) and swearing that I'll never touch another VW, it seems that my mother-in-law may soon provide the answer. She has an '04 Jazz 1.4 se with the CVT gearbox which should be available to me at a significant discount - I'm hoping about £3.5k to £4k.
As someone who tries to perform most of his own maintenance, my main concerns are the valve adjustment and the CVT gearbox. I used to do the valve clearances on my Yamaha 600 and was hoping never to tinker with shims again. The CVT has been great to date - 45k - but it hasn't yet had a fluid change. Any views? Would you buy it? Read more
