Going to Yarmouth, IoW tomorrow, via Lymington I think. Will be heading down from M3, j3 (from Woking).

Leaving Woking at 5:30pm, what time could I expect to arrive? Any particular traffic hotspots ?

Would I be better advised to go via Portsmouth?

Thanks for the route advice from all and the feedback from flunky.
I will log these routes for future use.

I have recently developed a problem with my E30. It has started overheating! inlet hoses are piping hot but the outlet hose and radiator a cold. Took car out recently no problem but today went 3/4 up on the temp gauge then sparying water from the radiator tank, lights in board telling me to check coolant. Checked for air block in hoses, flushed the rad too! No blockages! Looked for thermostat and there isnt one there has been taken out.. Could it be the water pump??? Have done 100k, never changed it although it has FSH so double checked and its never been done. At my wits end as to what it could be.

Thanks

If the heads ok then look at the radiator it could be silted up no amount of flushing will clear it.

I've just bought a 2nd hand Renault Clio 172, 2000 W reg, with 60,000 miles. When I start the car, the ignition catches, the engine fires, and then it dies. Once this has happened it often then won't even turn over for a couple of minutes.
I have got around this by giving the accelerator pedal a kick when starting - the revs go high, the engine starts, and then I can normally keep the revs mid-range for a couple of seconds. If I have managed to keep the revs up and the engine alive for a few seconds then the car is normally ok and will keep running. However, if I mis-time it and don't keep the revs high enough then they drop to zero and the engine dies.

What is the problem? Any advice appreciated. I'm taking it back to the garage for checks, but it would nice to be armed with some information before I go.
PS. The car does have an aftermarket exhaust on it, but this is the only modification. Could this be linked in any way, or is it irrelevant?
Thanks.

"The aftermarket nasty that I was meaning was a second immobilizer of some sort."

Oh, I see what you mean. I don't think so - in fact, it's quite possible that the immobilizer is working as intended. I have now read the manual, and I'm probably not leaving the key in the ignition for long enough before attempting to start. I've started successfully a couple of times this evening, so hopefully that's the problem solved.
When I got the car on Saturday the battery was a bit low, so it was a struggle to get going. I have now charged the battery, but one set of symptons (battery low) masked the fact that I wasn't operating the immobilizer correctly - I thought that the two issues were linked. D'oh!

Thanks for your help. I imagine that this is the problem is solved, but if not I'll re-post.

Hello
The C15 I am currently (still) driving has n R2 bulb O/side and H4 N/side, advisory on the MOT last was change O/S bulb as alignment was out (it is, bulb is a tad wobbly inside), I duly bought a new R2, which lasted 5 minutes (probably/maybe bad handling on my part).
To get to the nitty gritty.
This is a bulb question, the H4 fitted is the same 'fitment' as the R2, but looks a very different bulb but fits the same headlamp hole, can I just buy any H4 (any bulb from any company), or do I have to specify which vehicle?
Hope this makes sense?
Cheers

F-f-f-four quid!!!! For a 410? I can remember being called a robber for selling one at 48p!

Try LSUK [Lucas] for that LLB 012; if they've got old stock, then it might be old price.

When I picked up my Corsa SRi today, the LCD display above the centre air vents wasnt working.
I removed it and it kept flickering but was hard to keep it on. Anyway, I managed to refit it with it still displaying, but the temp readings are wild - went from 22c to -9c. The display is also duller at the lefthand end than the right - why is this?
Also, is there any way of making the connection more secure? The plug is in well enough but its still sensitive to being tapped even so not sure how long before it stops working again. Read more

Had a similar problem with mine. Ended up resoldering the joints where the plug goes in. Need good eyesight and a really small soldering iron! Do that before you replace the outside temperature sensor. My readings were up and down until I resoldered the connections - fine after that.

I did replace the temperature sensor a few years back (unrelated to the joints problem) because it was obvious that the sensor itself had packed up. Got a replacement cheaply off eBay. No dismantling required. The sensor is situated near the bottom of the radiator, behind the bumper, and can be got at if you have slim arms, hands and fingers.

LOL!

Hope this doesn't turn F1 into the farce that the Tour de France became this year - not drug related I know, but the happenings off the track dwarfed those on the track and what was a good event became a waste of everyone's time.

Right motivation, wrong result.

Guess now Im finding out that I have been ripped off, exactly a day after my months warranty has run out. Took a ten minute trip not going any more than 40mph and noticed that the car seemed to be over heating (no lights came on just noticed dial was reading hotter than usual). When i had a look i couldnt see coolant level clearly but could hear a slight hissing noise. Popped into local halfords and they wasnt very helpful so i drove home with my heating on full blast trying not to let it get too hot. After it all cooled down I added some water/anti freeze and it drunk about a litre and a half, obviously loosing water somewhere. That was yesterday, today before I took it out i thought i had better check water and i topped it up, took another 3 quarters of a litre (and i noticed a damp patch on floor under engine). Does anyone know what this could be?

I have a garage appointment tomorrow and explained the situation, asked if it was likely to be expensive and he said if pipes/tubes then no but if it was a cracked radiator then yes it would be expensive. Does anyone know of a rough price they might charge if i need a new radiator? Ive only got £80 tops to spare at the moment.

I only bought the car a month ago, is this something they would of known about? If so im gonna be angry, he knew i was single parent with not alot of money. And if he did indeed know is there anything i can do about it? Read more

Wolfgirl,

I don't know what a water flank is, either. Maybe the mechanic sneezed as he wrote it. :)

If the thermostat was jammed shut then it is quite possible that water has been blowing out of the header tank, giving the impression of a leak.
I would just keep an eye on the level, very often a newly filled cooling system will drop a bit in level as all the odd air bubbles in it get displaced by the car being used.

I wouldn't just top up with water, though, use a mixture of anti-freeze and water.(Winter's just around the corner!)

Your wet patch may be coolant, antifreeze doesn't evaporate like water, it tends to hang around for a bit.

Cleaning the throttle plate will need the basic settings to be re-set afterwards.

That is a different problem to the "creeping revs" issue; that's a design characteristic - even re-setting all the fly-by-wire settings has no effect. [Been there - tried that.]

Having set my heart on buying an Accord 2.4 Executive/EX, which has an excellent spec including supposed lumber support, I have to admit that I found the driver`s seat to be most uncomfortable. I admit that I suffer from lower back problems, but find the seats on my current BMW, which has electric lumber adjustment, to be extremely comfortable.

I was still most impressed with the Accord, after finding the overall build quality to be superb & engineering quality second to very few, I really want to buy one. I was wondering if anybody else had found a means to increase the lumber support on this model, by the addition of some suitable additional support/Recaro seating.???

Thanks for your feedback and positive reports that eventually a comfortable position is attainable with patience. I certainly was suitably impressed enough with the car to persevere when I eventually find one.

Only problem being that I want a 2.4 manual EX and they seem to be scarcer than hens teeth at present. As I am in no desperate hurry, I will wait & see if more are available and prices drop when the new model is launched in 2008.
