Thinking about purchase of a Nissan Terrano diesel 2.7TDI manual. Particularly interested in fuel consumption figures be it real world or govt figures. Also peoples experiences good or bad.
Looking at circa 1998/9 with about 70 -80 K mileage. This falls into my price bracket of approx 4K.
All thoughts welcome as always

Mine was an automatic. Got about 22mpg urban, 29mpg on motorway.
Look out for steering geometry faults, worn front wheel bearings and leaking tailgate door.

Fully agree, whatever clothes wisdom, it certainly isn't a nappy!
However, I cannot agree with the view that if someone is old that they must therefore be wise.

Anyone know a good online fiesta owners club?
There seems to be several out there, but I don't want to register at them all to find some of them are old or only have handful of users.
One with a technical forum on a par with this site would be good...
Thanks

I happened to be a member of many of the Fiesta clubs when I owned one.

Popped into a dealer today asking if I could book the car in for the tracking to be checked, as one of the front tyres is wearing unevenly, they said "oh the tracking machine has been out of action for six months" went to check and came back and said "oh yea we dont do that, we suggest halfords across the road"
now look i was prepared to pay their inflated prices, was going to be happy waiting days for an appointment, and have spent significant sums at their partner sites on new cars and servicing, and they do sell tyres (probably driven straight down to kwik fit anyways)
I know its only a small service, but for me it sums it all up, I naturally wont be buying either of our next cars there, and i dont know why its wound me up so much, but the false sincerity when they cannot even be bothered to sort out this simplest of tasks has got to me

They will be getting the business for the next one.

They did also provide you a courtesy umbrella, 'till that big piece f glass arrives, I hope!
When Mrs V took her Mx5 into Mazda main dealer, was surprised to see the tiny bottle of Autoglym screenwash in the footwell, upon collection.
Check the invoice, charged £3.50+VaT!!
Pointed out the screenwash reservoir was full, when it went in - result, item deleted from invoice & Auto Glym bottle returned!!
Now, if that'd been me behind the counter, the item wouldn't have been mistakenly charged & the sample bottle, would have been given free of charge!!

Noticed the other day that when i have dipped headlights on I can't put full beam on? But I can flash full beam on when I have side lights on or none at all.
The stalk usually clicks when you put full beam on with dipped headlight on, so the only thing I can think of is that a relay has gone. Only prob is I'm not sure where that realy might be and the haynes manual isn't much help.
Any ideas?

I'm desperately after some friendly and professional help. I bought a clutch kit from a motor factor last week, got it fitted by my mechanic on the weekend and it seems as if the clutch kit is fault. Car is jerky in the first and reverse gear. My mechanic has told me to contact the motor factor and get them to replace the clutch kit as well as pay me for labour (because obviously mechanic is going to charge me for re-doing the work). I went back to the motor factor this morning and as expected they've put all the blame on the mechanic. Then after some talking they said to me I buy a new clutch from them (pay for it obviously) and then they'll send the one that's in my car now to the manufacturer and if its faulty they'll pay me labour. Now I want to know what are the chances of them being honest about it, I mean both the manufacturer and the motor factor? What're my options now? I'm in no man's land right now and really need some advise from you guys.
{As you've made an allegation against the motor factor further down, I've removed their name and generalised it so as to no longer name & shame them. I would be grateful that you no longer mention them by name in this thread. Thank you - DD} Read more
I'm not doubting you madf, but how can a clutch work at all if it's 'misaligned'? If the holes aren't lined up properly the gearbox input shaft won't go through them. Once it has been assembled it has to stay centred. I can only imagine misalignment in the event of a bent bellhousing or something like that - hardly likely with a professional mechanic.
Drove 12 miles to collect #1 daughter from train station last night - no problems. Parked for 30 mins (train was late) and then the car would not start, turned over but wouldn't fire. As I was on slope I bump started it and headed for home. Two miles later heading up hill on the motorway I noticed the headlights were dim and the car started 'chugging' I turned the headlights off and power returned so kept going. Soon the 'chugging' returned so I turned all the lights off and kept going (the choice was pull over and wait on the hard shoulder for 'a very nice man' or drive 10 miles on a quiet motorway without lights) Anyway made it home without futher incident (never any police when you don't want them:)) so what's gone wrong with my electrics that's caused this? - no warning lights and belt still there. Not had a chance to look yet so any pointers/advice welcome. Read more

I will probably do from the middle box all the way back as it looks pretty poor and will probably be difficult to split.
Bosal looks easier to fit as it has separate sleeves at both the joints (as the current system).

... for providing me with my own personal inside lane of the motorway from Rome to Pompeii and all the way back again. Nobody ever strayed into it, and I never had to stray out of it. Way to go guys, I must have undertaken half a million cars.
And what can I say about the charmless VW Polo I hired with its 33cc 8hp engine except that made getting back into a V6 a thousand times more pleasurable. The last time I had to drop down to third on a motorway to keep up with traffic I was driving a fully loaded Luton van. Read more
And I clearly don't understand anything about the new way this site is set up because I didn't expect Volkswagen to appear in the title. {Now removed, but that's what happens if you select a make / model from the drop down list. DD}

If Haynes don't yet do one; you really should leave this to a pro.
This is quite a quick car; without a manual, how are you going to assess whether or not the discs need to be changed? Fitting pads on to a worn-out disc can be disastrous.
