Hi there,
Trying to prepare myself for an expensive shock...lol.
We have a Ford galaxy, petrol.manual it has taken to what i describe as kangaroo hopping, bit like someone taking the foot off and on the accelarator quickly.
It doesn't do this all the time, but when it does we have noticed that it is always at low revs, and about twice now it has cut out when standing still at lights or a junction. as I say it doesn't do it all the time just occasionally can go days without doing it.
Any ideas what this could be and even more importantly how painful to me purse.
Thanks in advance,

I have a 1995 306 STDT sedan, with an XUD9 engine and a lucas fuel pump.

I'm considering replacing it with a bosch pump (from a scrapyard or similar probably!), for better reliability with biofuels, but how much of a job is this? Will I need to remove the cambelt to do it?

Thanks in advance :)

Does anyone know difference in fuel pumps between the XUD 100 and XUD 103 off DHY and D8A engines thanks?

Hi Again..

Hope you can help.

I have noticed (when I am sitting in the car) a whinning noise, which seems to be coming from a fan/cambelt pulley. I thought for a while that it may be the bushes on the pulley had gone, and that I may have to get them replaced, but now I am not too sure.

Anyway, i tried to identify exactly where the noise was coming from but on the Audi there is so many pulleys...Then I tried changing gear (I have an Automatic), the tone changes significantly when I move from park, neutral etc. Would this indicate one of the pulleys/bushes in the cambelt? The noise definitely comes from the front of the car, but is most noticable when you are in the car itself..especially when sitting at, say, the traffic lights?!!

I had the cambelt, dampner, waterpump etc, changed at the Audi dealer 3000K ago (3 months)....Help, please?

Best, Craig

Surely the Audi dealer would have noticed the bad bushes/bearings when they changed the belt, etc....

well maybe not!!!?

We've had the Caravelle from 6 months old and have had intermittent problems engaging gears especially 1st and reverse when stationary and occasionally 2nd and 3rd whilst on the move.
The dealer has removed and lubricaated the gear linkage cable on several occasions without
improvement.
The clutch pedal needs to be planted very firmly on the floor otherwise gear selection is nearly impossible. Does anyone know if the clutch can be adjusted on this model?

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the link.
Could the problem be due to air in the clutch hydraulics? and how easy is it to bleed the clutch on this model.

Cheers,
Mark

I recently sold my motorbike via the free-ads board in the local Sainsbury's. I attached a small digital photo and kept the layout neat and simple.

Hi,
I'm trying to remove a headlight on a 1994 Uno.
Nothing like the description in the Haynes manual (I suspect the instructions are for an older model:-( ).
Anyone got any ideas?

Just read HJs road test of the X-Trail. One thing I'm surprised he didn't mention is the complete lack of rear headroom.

I'm in the market for something similar and the Honda CR-V has been top of the shopping list for SWMBO for sometime now. Pitched up at the local Nissan dealer to look around the new X-Trail and only got as far as sitting in the back of one for it to be written off the list of possibles. I'm not exactly tall (5' 11") and my head was squashed against the roof, which I found astonishing in a car in this class.

Admitedly this was in the top spec model with sunroof - but I can't imagine those without have that much more headroom. Read more

are the engines (diesel ) sorted on these now?
just had one pass me and it sounded like an old york diesel very top

Was that the old Di one?

The last of the old Massey-Ferguson type lumps. Very reliable though.

The new one is refined, and that is all the good that can be said about it. Mongrel Renault-Nissan technology that I wouldn't touch with a 20ft pole.

Message from my colleage at work:

I've just found out that 2 months (c.2k miles) ago Kwik Fit put the wrong oil in my car during an oil change. The engine is now sounding lumpy. Kwik Fit claim as it's only been 2 months there will have been no long term damage done and have simply offered a free oil change as a resolution. Is this acceptable? It came to light as when I took it in with the 'lumpy' problem, the oobservation was made that the oil 'looked very thick'.

Thanks

is the issue viscosity, or base oil quality? Mineral oils are more likely to leave varnish on the exhaust valve and stem, thus at least a semi-synth is required, no doubt with the correct detergents etc. Using old recipes like 20w/50 might be OK for low-tech V8 engines, but higher specific outputs=more heat internally which is more relevant than the ambient temperature.

Jump starting one car from the other last night in the pouring rain. Both cars in position and the doner car running, shut driver's door and central locking kicks in (supposedly not working!) So there I am with a locked car (bonnet still shut), engine running with £30 of fuel in it in the pouring rain. It took half an hour's worth of thought and a few false starts but finally worked out how to gain access without breaking a window or cutting holes. So, anyone who wants to know how to get into a '90's Previa in less than 20 seconds just send some used tenners in a plain brown envelope to the usual address.
It's a little bit scary that me on my own without the benefit of an education 'at her Majesty's pleasure' can come up with a quick and simple keyless entry method. Read more

when Ford's were easily nickable....the Scorpio ended up with increased protection around the driver's door, so that the lock couldn't be manipulated...

however, the passenger door didn't have it, but did have a lock......so the toerag would use that side instead

what was the point in that then
