help! I need to change my headlight bulb on a 2004 Scenic 1.9 dci. I've opened the bonnet & it looks impossible! In the handbook it says take to the dealer, but that's going to cost a fortune isn't it? Surely this is something one should be able to do oneself. Has anyone any experience of this?

There is someone locally who drives a car without a driving licence. She often drops her children off at school. Who is the best authority to inform? Read more
insurance companies won't pay out if you don't have a license
They won't pay you for anything that is your fault, however comprehensive the insurance may be. But they will pay out for third party liability, which is what counts here.
Surely it must be a myth that insurance premiums are so high because of all the uninsured and unlicensed drivers? I would have thought it had more to do with the absurdly inflated cost of repairing minor body damage to bumperless, fragile modern cars driven by licensed and insured incompetent twerps. In fact I would bet money on it.
My malfunction light came on constant. I took it into my local garage ( not nissan) he put a computer on it and said it could be a sensor problem. The light went off, he told me to use it for a week. The light came on after about 4 days. He orderd a new sensor, but the car would not start with it in. He put the old one back in and it was ok for about 3 days.
The light is back on now, he is going to order a new sensor from a different supplyer to see if this works.
Has anyone had this problem, or any advice would be welcomed.
Cheers Shug.

As you have done a number of chains on the micra do you think it would be possible to do one on a 1.2 k12 with the engine in place as it looks possible !
Hi all, just bought a nearly new ex Bt vivaro from a salvage auction, its spot on now other than the speed limiter. Anyone know how to remove it? Anyone know what the 3 fuses next to each other under the dash under the steering wheel are? Thanks in advance. Read more
The Highway Code states that when overtaking a driver/rider should:-
"Move quickly past the vehicle you are overtaking, once you have started to overtake. allow plenty of room. Move back to the left as soon as you can but don't cut in."...
I ahve an old corolla (L-reg) and at some point in the not too dustant future am thinking of trading up for a much newer avensis or corolla.
I have heard of oil consumption problems with the new VVTi engines.
My old corolla has done 125,000 miles, doesn't seem to use any between services, same story with my 2.0i GT celica.
Does anyone have any hard technical knowledge about what engines in which cars this affects ?
What is the cause of the problem - is it premature bore or ring wear, I am assuming therefore the only method of rectification is a new block/rings ?
From what I can make out there are 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0i versions, and in the avensis a rare 2.4 also
Are these all essentailly the same engine design with just a change in stroke/bore ?
(My celica and corolla engines look extremely similar)
From what I can see they sound good engines - chain driven, with some (all ??) direct petrol injection.
If they are affected by oil-consumption does this mean the cat/lambda sensor are also at risk of premature failure due to the oil burning ?

Your vehicle doesn't even need a complete service history, even with a partial history will get you the job done at a vastly reduced cost to yourself, even a history with more gaps than stamps will be more or less covered, it's on a sort of sliding scale, so don't accept that it needs a full one with all the i's dotted, if they refuse ask to phonr Toyota GB customer relations in their reception area, that should do the trick! Toyota's warranty on affected engines is actually very good , I can't think of any other manufacturer (hyundai poss?) would warranty an engine for 120'000 miles / 7 years!
Hi All,
My heaters has stopped working in my Ka, it will only blow completly cold air, i was wondering if it might be an electrical problem as it feels like it is an electronic dial for hot air on the Ka not a mechanical linkage, i was also wondering if it has some sort of fuse that may have blown or the like because it simply happen over night, the air didnt get cooler it just went from hot to cold!!!
Any help would be more than welcome as it is very nippy on the way to work.
Thanks

Morning!
The fuse has gone for the "cigarette lighter" in my Focus for the 2nd time in 2 months. Not that Im a smoker, but I need it for Tim, the TomTom.
However, there was no fuse plan/map thing on the underside of the fuse box and the garage did it for free last time (doubt they'd be so generous this time).
Anyone know where I can find out which fuse it is so I can change it today? I have until 12.30 to buy the fuse when the local car parts shop closes.
Much appreciate any advice,
Patricia

PS. My cars due for a service anyway so I'll mention that the fuse has gone so quickly so they should pick that up. Read more

Just had my 1998 Ford Focus towed to the Ford Dealers by the RAC as the immobiliser is frozen on and all the codes lost in the key and ECU unit. Radio display says "CODE --------".
Any ideas how much it will cost to have it all reset and a new key?
Also, is it a big job as I need my car more than my wife, lol.
Fed up!!
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks.

when imobilizers freeze this may sound bizzare but I have known the boards to buil up static & lock out. I have removed them & earthed the unit to ground & run a second earth wire attached to a metal spike in the ground & run the wire along all the pin terminals, refitted & hey presto! Always worth a try when it costs nowt.
There will be someone along in a mo to say I'm barking but then I bet they haven't tried it!
Hello,
I have just received new brake discs and pads for our Clio ordered off e-Bay, they are the larger 259mm discs (the non ABS 238mm discs are a lot cheaper). Paid under £40 delivered (only bidder so got for reserve, buy-it-now was £45 + del). Mintex off e-Bay would have been nearer £70, likewise brakeparts.co.uk, from the dealer - £90 +.
The discs are by Rotortech, seem well made and well packaged, the pads by Trupart, likewise. I have heard of both though they are not - at the consumer level at least - big names.
Any thoughts?
Also, a small point, the box the pads came in was unsealed when I recieved it introducing the possibility that it is the wrong pads in the box, time will tell.

i always go to a bearing supplier if i remember but the art is NOT to tell them its for a vehicle as prices go dearer
i was turned down for a job at timkin bearings, thinking back if i had got it my life would have revolved round selling them
Does anybody know if you can get an owners manual PDF download (or any download) for a 2006 VW Polo? My mothers has just bought one and the owners manual isn't present. I'd rather download one for free if they are available rather than pay VW for a new one.
Thanks Read more

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it themselves.
In no time at all, you'd have economic stagnation and decline. millions unemployed, the UK and USA economies overtaken by nations who think they can do it themselves!...
