I have the task of giving maintenance advice for a 6-year old 37k miles Micra 1.0 with the CVT auto.

It's had a FSH but I can't see any record of CVT fluid changes. Presumably it needs one from time to time. Audi were most insistant I got mine changed on the A4 multitronic at 40k miles.

Any other advice, apart from "don't buy one, they always go wrong" ? Read more

The oil pan on the transmission only holds about 2.5 litres, this is approximately half of the total fluid. For a thorough change you would need to do a 3x drain and refill, I used to just drain and refill once a year using an oil extractor. The dipstick can give varying levels after filling through the dipstick and I found it easier just to measure how much came out and put the same amount back in. The Nissan n-cvt fluid was about £7+vat a litre IIRC

Just picked up a set of Vauxhall alloys off a late C Reg Nova GTE to put on our Corsa. They are fitted with 155/70 13R Dunlop SP9's and we need to know recommended tyre pressures for these. We have a Corsa manual but this size tyre is not listed.

Thanks in advance! Read more

Ruperts Trooper

155/70 13 tyres were fitted to early Novas as an alternative to the original's 135/80 13.

For 155/70 13 tyres the pressure should be 24 front and rear.

Later Novas used 145/80 13 & 165/70 13 and equivalent radius 14" tyres.

Yesterday it was fine and today it will not start I turn the key it makes the sound but then stops. The ncvt light is on and check engine I am not sure why this happened overnight without prior warning. Read more

Enough power to light the dashboard warning lights - why not bump start the car (assume the car is a manual) -

Bump Starts can be complicated - my wife did not have the ignition on and was in 1st gear!!Ignition on and 2nd/3rd gear did the trick the last time I left the interior light on by mistake.

If the car starts after a push it might very well be the battery especially if it is 9 yr old - they can just fail overnight so to speak especially with the advent of a touch of frost.

Batteries for Micras of this age are funny shaped (tall/narrow) & not that common at the usual places for a cheap battery e.g. Costco but my neighbour found the local Motor Factor obliged at about £50 inc VAT - Halfords wanted £70+

Like the subject.
If you were doing 30K miles a year, a 6 footer and wanted a good comfy ride.
but also very cheap to insure / run / fuel.
I know you are all gona scream mondeo at me or mazda6 or focus.
I want a good choice, up to £10K.
I too would love a mitsibushi animal d4d or nissan 4x4 thing.
but what are they like driving at 30-40K miles a year?
Will I get bored quick? Read more

omg or a merc 98 plate C class 280 sport with 140K miles on it, surely that would be good for another 60 K miles?
or a C240 Sport?
they look a million dollers, compared to a £3K 3 year old ford Ka !

I have AdAware2007, Search and Destroy and SpywareBlaster, but find that SUPERAntispyware is particularly efficient for a freebie. Needs, as in such cases, updating regularly. See:

Hello, I am after some advise, I am not the most technical guy in the world, but my Mondeo 1.8 Petrol appears to have had a timing belt failure (that is what the RAC said). The car is an 04 plate and has done 55k miles. It was bought in July this year from a car supermarket with 47k miles and had just been serviced. Is this fault mine (should it have been changed) is it a Ford fault - dodgy parts or is it something that should have been noticed at the last service. I am being quoted up to £1k to repair it, which I cant really afford at the minute, but I need my car!! Help please!!

Thanks Read more

Hi,

This weekend we're picking up a used car and trading in our Ford Ka.

We've agreed a total price for the deal but that doesn't include any RFL or fuel, the guy even told me 'we're not a petrol station' :)

On that basis I'm inclined to say that I'm not a post office and that I'll cash in the tax on our car before he gets it.

Seem reasonable?

I have for my sins sat through far too many management/accounts reviews at franchised dealerships and I can assure you that income from surrendering RFL's is surprisingly high.

Check the small print of your agreement, it will probably say something along the lines of "value of vehicle as inspected on such and such a day" which will include the RFL.

Hello all,

hopefully some one can help me out on here about this?...

After a good old clean of my cars interior, I discovered a button on the side of my car hidden away by the drivers seat. I know it?s the PIR sensor button, but I pressed it, ever since my alarm has been going off at random times, and other times it sits there quietly not making a peep.

I know you can isolate the PIR if some one is in the car, and it arms once you lock with the fob, I have tried in vain to find out if there are ways to alter the sensitivity of the PIR so that it may stop it from randomly going off.

I have been through the VW owners manual (I don?t have a A4 one as of yet) and some of the mechanics manuals about the car But as of yet I have no idea what to do, has any one on here got any suggestions on how I could resolve this ??

Your help will be appreciated.

LOL, I guess I need to be careful on what I press, I work in IT so I tend to press a button and hope it fixes the problem.

Anyways, I had a good read through this forum, and the one you posted peter, and found a possible solution to my problem.

I was not just cleaning the inside of the car , really got carried away and had done the engine too, I can imagine you all cringing now, but within one of the topics on www.vwaudiforum.co.uk one member mention the boot switch, I had damaged the thing,

I have now repaired it and looking to replace this weekend, only a 5 min job I know but 5 mins is a luxury I don?t get till the weekend. So fingers crossed till then it behaves its self.

Thanks again peter D and screwloose for you replies, it got me in the right direction for sure.

Need a cheap 2nd car for a 20 mile round trip commute. I tend to set myself a budget of 500 - 1000. Almost banger money by normal standards. Fuel consumption not a huge issue. Seen the talk on this forum about the 9 series volvo being the last of the proper volvo's with easy mechanics. As HJ says in his car by car guide the saloon is almost unsellable compared to the hugely more practical estate.
Have seen a good condition 940S saloon auto on a J plate in red, with 114K and a far bit of history. Just £450 with a full mot.
A bigger car than i need and auto not really needed either, Not exactly easy on the eye either! but condition of car and pedigree of seller exellent. Must be worth a punt at this price. Even the heated seats work and new tyres all round. See my other posting re what to do with my Vitara as to why i want a comfy safe saloon!

Your views as always negative or otherwise most welcome

Anyone hazard a guess as to fuel consumption on this model with auto. The 940 is a 2 litre engine..

Thanks

I have a knocking noise coming from my engine, more noticeable when idling and sometimes louder than others and sometiomes not at all! The noise doesn't increase with the revs. Other than this (touch wood), the car runs fine. Any ideas what this is?
