Try a double blind test. Get someone else to fill your cars but not tell you the brand, different every time including some supermarket fuel.
I used to work with someone who made a fuss about wanting "teapot tea" as teabag in the cup was "disgusting", quite a performance when it was your round, as it were.
One day we made 5 cups of tea *without him seeing*, teapot and teabag in the cup. Yup, not only couldn`t tell the difference, but chose the wrong (teabag) cup.
IMHO, However unlikely it may seem, Psychological factors have to be excluded by a double blind test. The same applies to fuel additives.

Hi everyone, my daughter just bought a 2000 Nissan Micra which makes it a K11...I think.
Car was put through the mot yesterday with no problems, but want to give it a "going over" myself all the same......
What type of oil should i use?????would semi synth be ok.......ie: its easy to get hold of and cheap......ish.
Any particular areas I should check? I know the front crossmember is prone to rust so will check that out.
Also is the Micra fussy about oil filters ...should I buy genuine Nissan or will spurious do?
All advice greatly appreciated and taken aboard! Read more
Probably read it as "a filter of any quality" rather than "any filter of quality" - I must admit I read it that way.
Since I've had my 407SW I have been having a few occurrences of the rear screen unlocking when I didn't expect it, and now the rear wiper has stopped working completely. It seems to have seized because the boot mechanism tries to turn the wiper arm but it can't and the rear screen pings out of place. The two mechanisms are linked but I can't work out how. Has anyone else come across this? Read more
I had a 1984 Mazda 323 on which the rear wiper bush seized.
I spent ages dismantling it, used some fine sandpaper and a lot of copper grease, and effected a permanent cure.
My time was cheap in those days.
It's rather tragic, how Peugeot have gone from being manufacturers of tough but simple cars (they kept a lot of Africa moving) to makers of unreliable motors with a lot of dodgy electrics.
in the local rag tonight someone is advertising a nissna cherry europe - the one with the lafa engine in it. thats got to be pretty rare nowadays

I've recently bought an 2nd hand A class, which I've noticed makes a thud noise when changing gears.
I am worried it may indicate a problem with the gears and they will need replacing
Has anyone else had this problem?
Mercedes claim this is a feature of the car and there is nothing to fix, which is not true as it doesn't happen to other A classes we have driven.
What is my legal position. I have had the car less than a month

It was syncromesh on third, with some additional damage internally done by the broken bits. Got a great service done by a local gearbox specialist DJ Transmissions in Shrewsbury. Cost me £860 all-in and the car runs great now.
Hi,
A friend has an 02 Ka 1.3. Last week, the oil light started to come on. On inspection (after the car had been sitting on level ground for about 3 hours), the dip stick showed no oil. We immediately bought some oil and filled it up (the correct specification was used according to the handbook). For a couple of days, the car was fine, and running more smoothly than it had been. However, today, there was a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust which smelt of burning (not normal cold weather condensation). The engine seemed to be running ok, and there was no white sludge under the filler cap, nor any loss of power. Could it be the fresh oil working its way through the engine and a lot of gunk being moved around, in which case will it clear eventually? Or could it be something more serious and related to the car having little oil in it last week? I have to say the car has not been serviced for about 2 years. Personally I have my car serviced regularly, but I though the Ka's engine was a tough one, using simple mechanicals from the old Ford Anglia. Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Rob E

The red light came on my car once no damage seems to have occured, though it did have oil in it just not enough as it may not have been changed for ages. Been fine since the oil change though and no obvious signs of engine wear.
My mates gets the red light of death every other week and its still going strong despite the frequent top ups it requires.
Also are you sure you haven't managed to flood the sump? My dad did this on the Escort once and that gave a lot white smoke, though this happened straight away. Again no long term damage was caused.
Hi Guys,
The Daewoo (1.6 ecotec, 2000 V, 103k) is very hesitant when the engine is cold. It starts first time when hot or cold. On first starting, the revs go up to about 1500, then drop back down to idle at 800-1000. If you dab the throttle, the revs drop a bit before increasing. Coasting in gear and then applying light throttle causes the car to jerk quite severely before the revs pick up and off you go. This is a real pain in morning traffic! After about 5 minutes running, it is near perfect. So far it has had a service including oil, oil filter, air filter and new Bosch spark plugs. The old spark plugs were dry and a nice brown colour. Servicing has had no effect on the cold running problem.
The problem is the same whether it is a warm day, a cold day or a wet day.
Any ideas on the likely cause?
Thanks for any suggeestions,

Try cleaning the throttle body and butterfly. A little of this stuff and an old toothbrush. Don't swamp it. Dry out excess with a cloth.
Firstly it is advertised with 26k but its showing 30k. The other few niggles is that there is a bit of rust on the front valance and the garage is changing the cambelt before sale. I am not well up with Nissan's but surely it is too premature to change the belt?
Either its clocked and he knows its about to snap or he just wants to be certain there will be no come back?

best to take the pipe off for access - or at least one end. You'll have to drain the coolant (or partially at least) though.
