Since I've had my 407SW I have been having a few occurrences of the rear screen unlocking when I didn't expect it, and now the rear wiper has stopped working completely. It seems to have seized because the boot mechanism tries to turn the wiper arm but it can't and the rear screen pings out of place. The two mechanisms are linked but I can't work out how. Has anyone else come across this?

The bush had siezed. I managed to free it with copious amounts of WD40 and extreme handling, it tool a long time and a lot of force but within 2 weeks it had siezed again. In the end I had the main dealer replace it. This has been the most expensive car I've ever owned. The sun blind came off its runners and jammed; its had new brake disks and pads all round; a wheel sensor failed causing ABS + ESP alarms; both front suspension ball joints have been replaced. Its cost about £2k in bills so far in 2 years to keep it running, and now the alarm has gone faulty.

Yes, this all sounds familiar. My 05 model which I've had from new has also got a siezed rear wiper, and the electic sun blind fell apart. Add to this both keys falling to bits, replacement electric folding mirrors (done under warranty), new turbo (done under warranty), repairs to cruse control system, and various warnings from the diagnostic system every time I turn it on (particle filter or something is the latest!). Also I think the starter motor is now struggling to start the engine when cold.
I have also had all disks and pads replaced, and one of the front ball joints (so far), that said the car has done 124K miles!
In summary it's not been a great car compared to my previous VW Bora.

I had a 1984 Mazda 323 on which the rear wiper bush seized.
I spent ages dismantling it, used some fine sandpaper and a lot of copper grease, and effected a permanent cure.
My time was cheap in those days.
It's rather tragic, how Peugeot have gone from being manufacturers of tough but simple cars (they kept a lot of Africa moving) to makers of unreliable motors with a lot of dodgy electrics.
