Two dash lights have been coming on and going off for a few months now so I took the car for a diagnostic check and was told that precat lamba sensor needing changing.
These lights on the dash are the EPC and engine symbol with the EPC staying on for a couple of starts with the engine symbol now on all the time.
So last Monday I had the precat lamba sensor changed and then the emissions checked which were absolutely fine.
However yesterday the engine symbol is back on again !
Has anyone had such a problem and could give some help before I consider another diagnostic check.
Thanks

I have a 2003 2.0 hdi, 110 ,peugeot 307 sw, with 88000 miles on it. today a message with an audible bleep has flashed up on the instrument panel," DIESEL ADDITIVE MINIMUM LEVEL" is this a main dealer job or can it be done diy? is it expensive? and is it an urgent repair required as I probably only do 100 miles a week at the moment. I have recently fitted new heater plugs and on the last fill up used some redex cleaner could there be a connection? I would appreciate any help on the above matter, thanks JOHN.

I think the dealers would have been required to have replaced the FAP as part of a package deal on servicing the anti-pollution system. I agree with the bit about bimbo [err... intellectually-challenged female] receptionists though....
All this should have been done on the 50,000 service anyway.

I have yet to see one on the road - so it might explian a lot of the price drop. Read more
Pooh ! Locked an "Volumized"
Hello,
All has been well until today when pulling off motorway I noticed the engine stuttering.
On coming home there appears to be no power coupled with hesitation, changing down gears doesn't help, only managed 60 on the flat, stuttering, 70 down hill, no stuttering.
The only previous experience was symptoms like this was a cracked distributor cap on an old cortina.
The Clio engine will stall once stationary or coasting but will immediately start on the key
I've cleaned the plugs which looked normal based on Haynes pictures. this resulted in the car maintaining it's idle, although it was rough. Changed the HT leads as they were the originals, no better or worse, same rough idle and no power.
Any ideas, I'm thinking fuel filter next, air filter was done a couple of months ago. Up until now the car was running well easy 55mpg, no smoke etc.
Any experience or advice welcome,
Thanks
Ellis

If it's been running on three for a while; it'll have fouled a plug - and "cleaning" modern plugs may not have been a good idea.
If all else fails and a good blast doesn't clean them up; fit a set of genuine dealers plugs - these don't like any but them.
In my part of North London I always see uncovered gravel - carrying lorries charging about. They tend to have names like : (deleted - naming & shaming not allowed) on the sides . The issue is , when they are loaded ( usually badly , i.e unevenly with a hump of gravel right in the middle - the load should be evened out ) and driving UNCOVERED , our cars are in grave danger . All kinds of shrapnel flies off them at speed - a windscreen on a following vehicle cracks at 60 mph and anything happens ....
What galls me is that these lorries are now fitted with ' boom ' style covers , all the driver has to do is swing over a large arm and the tarpaulin secures the load ?
Why is nothing being done ??

Sure, that's normal. They were probably those old Czech-made Tatra trucks, once loaded, the inside wheels do touch the ground. Once unloaded, they don't. I imagine they use less fuel that way because of lower friction or something.

Does TMC work in the UK mine chatters to me all day in Germany and is very informative but in the UK it gives very occasional messages and never tells you about anything happening on the motorways. Is it a subscription service in the UK if so does anybody know who runs it ?

Nah... not the same at all. Personally I think local radio should be fined if they interrupt your 8 track BEFORE the traffic news starts, or don't stop broadcasting AS SOON AS the traffic news has finshed, and should have a hand cut off when they push the traffic button when they don't broadcast any traffic news at all.....

Sloppy description! Most of the plastic kettles I have owned have what appears to be an aluminium 'cover plate' over the element.

Please may I ask for some advice...
I have noticed that the inside of the FRONT PASSENGER side tyre has started to wear, unevenly when compared to the rest of the tyre which still has 80-85% tread across the tyre with about 3.5 mil in tread depth. (all other tyres wearing evenly)
I am aware this is clearly a tracking issue and I will be having the car fully checked out to ensure the TOE - CASTER - CAMBER are all correct / corrected.
My Question is:
Do I pay to have the tracking done whilst the old tyres are still on the car, or do I have the new ones fitted (I will be replacing ALL 4 road tyres) then drive to the specialist garage to have the tracking done properly.
I tend not to trust these small tyre fitting garages as they dont carry out the same sort of checks when the do "4 wheel alighnment" whereas I intend to have it done in a garage that speciales in 4 wheel geometry which includes toe, camber and caster and restores to its manufactuer settings.

>>in that the toe changes significantly with suspension deflection - no doubt the inner pivot axes (there are 4 each side) do not lie in the same plane as the centred inner balljoint location.
Sorry 659 - In this case then, I agree, new tyres first! I didn't realise the suspension was so "unusual". How do these cars react to bumps on just one side of the road?
In reply to the point made above, yes, you can get significant changes by how you stop the car. I once spent (wasted!) a good part of a Saturday afternoon playing about with checking the tracking on a Carlton using different methods, and techniques. I found quite a lot of variation, depending upon what weight was in the car, if the car had wound its suspension up by cornering just before being measured, etc, etc. IMO, wheel alignment is difficult to get right, and different people can easily measure the same car and tell you a completely different story.

Hi Johnm(P),
Many thanks for your reply. I have driven the car several times now,on purpose, and it is still running fine. If anything it seems to be more responsive to the throttle than before. My wife has even commented that "it picks up quicker from low revs". Since posting the question the EPC light has not come back on once but the exhaust warning light (engine symbol) is still illuminated .I intend to revisit my local garage who did the original diagnostics next week ,so I will post the outcome.
Kind Regards
