Hi
I have a Ford Fusion automatic 04 plate, I have had it since march this year. The problem I have with it is that when Im driving it just cuts out, sometimes im doing speeds of 30mph sometimes im doing 60mph, I will be driving along and it suddenly cuts out and jolts to a stop nearly causing a crash. I am baffled as its an automatic and it seems strange to cut out. I have taken it to ford where I bought it from twice now, the first time the said they changed some part on it and it wouldn't happen again, few weeks down the line it did it again. I took it back last week and they now want it for a week to keep test driving it. I have been told by my uncle it could be an airlock in the petrol tank. When i do open the petrol cap to fill up loads of air comes out, more than what happened with my Focus before.
Please try and help me out and give me some idea of what it could be.
Thanks
Lucy

Back in the early 80s we could get an LA car loan as a car was required for the job. Only problem was it had to be British (before said LA got threatened with the EU court)

Given the starting salary, that was either a basic Fiesta or metro.

My 84 Fiesta Popular+ was the worst car I have ever owned.

2nd up from the even more `base` Popular, it still had a bare metal handbrake grip. Fun in that winter where the sea froze on the shore in Swansea bay.

Every ripple and slight mark on the road fed through into your body as you crawled in traffic.

Wracking up nearly 30,000 in that year before I offloaded it, the underneath of the floorpan was covered in rust starting from chips in the (allegedly) thin smear of paint over ungalvanised steel.

I overtook a gritter on the M4 one night and found myself touching up dozens of chips in the painted front valance below the bumper.

It seemed that if you were to fire a pea at the paint with a pea shooter, it would be a problem.

Regards

NB As some Fords were uk produced,we were `allowed` a Fiesta, even though it was made in spain Read more

QUOTE:...""Hillman Hunter (Arrow range). Shoddy American "engineering" thrown together by Scots. Utter rubbish in every respect.""

I had a Hillman Hunter once - an early oblong headlamp model before the ugly later facelifts. It was a GL, with varnished wooden dash. I actually quite liked it - it was reliable and quite pleasant to drive and, being a 1725 cc model, adequately quick for everyday motoring. Of course, it rusted and appeared to be made of thin steel, while the suspension was very basic. It was old when I bought it but had been well looked after and it served us well for a couple of years. One thing I will say about the Hillman Hunter was that, whatever its shortcomings, it was a nicely styled car - certainly compared to its rivals - such as the Ford Cortina Mk2, Vauxhall Victor 101 , Austin 1800 or Renault 16....

Having sold my auction sourced Audi A3 TDi recently I was contemplating returning to auction to buy an E46 320d off the fleet, probably 2004 around 80K for about 8-9K. However I have been alarmed by reports of very expensive repairs to the turbo. Would I be better off going for an older 330d or do I need to up my budget and look at an E90. Might even consider going japanese if any suggestions for a sporting diesel.

Grateful for your thoughts.

" Which specialist and where is "around here" ?? I've got a 2001 320D that hasn't
had a fix so would be interested to know if its reasonably local to Bedford"

TokSik,

If you need a high quality and reasonable cost BMW independent and can travel to Aylesbury then contact BM Worx and ask for Stuart or Russell. I use them myself and have no hesitation in recommending them both for quality and price. They also offer courtesy cars if you give them enough notice. tel no. is 01296 614646.

Just had a call from a hysterical SWMBO who has just put 6 litres of Unleaded in the Scenic. Thankfully she realised and stopped at 6 litres, and of course hasn't started the engine. RAC are on their way to recover to a local garage.

I presume it's going to be a case of dropping the tank, flushing, refitting and refilling with diesel. I hope nothing else!

What's this likely to set me back?

Cheers

Why didn't you use the method that Telly Savalis did in Kelly's Heroes? You stick a piece of tube in the tank (no pun intended) and suck!

I also agree with other posts which say just keep it filled up with diesel and drive. I do not think a small amount of petrol would cause much trouble.

Drove back down the ghastly A12 from Colchester into the lovely sunset. Very, very busy as usual, but for an old 2-lane dual carriageway the traffic was flowing remarkably well, outside lane 60-75 indicated. In my friend's Octavia 4X4 leaving a relaxed 80 to 100 yard gap and not minding when nearside stuff nipped into it. Sometimes noticed that the person in front was dawdling, but since it was busy and we were doing the limit more or less, only once went up close to get someone to move.

After a while Essex white van geezer is up my jaxie, and after a while I move out of the way so that he can try to intimidate the traffic in front. To my surprise he does so, and soon we are bowling along at a quite decent 90 odd. But it doesn't last long. Soon there's another of them up my jaxie. Then the M25 tailback, and a couple more bits of nose-to-tail on the way in. I must say it was a lesson though: let the really threatening tailgater through and let him - or her I hasten to add - clear your path at a decent lick. It can pay dividends.

Good motor that Octavia though. Read more

Mmm Woodbines - Interesting observations. Seems to me to provide some evidence of gene transference between Essex and here in Cheshire ! Our local characteristics here though, also include a higher than average penchant for cabriolets and 4/4 's . As an "incomer" I remain puzzled by this..... High-ish rainfall, little snowfall, and for the most part no hills ! Also seem to see more "Big" things. EGs include Big hair, big wheels, big pick-ups and so on. Orange is also the favoured skin tone and seems to require the rejection of coats/jackets on the coldest of nights to display it to best effect.

when cold it tends to move heavily then suddenly as you are trying to drive it would hesitate then a sudden jump could anybody tell me what is wrong. I have been told there is a massive oil leak in the gear box but I am wondering if it is a massive oil leak can it still be driven and for how long. when it is warm it hardly does it. Read more

Ring around your local auto gearbox specialists - Ford dealers hate these, don't understand them and don't want to work on them; they're just a Volkswagen in drag.

I have an Audi A6 2.5 TDI 1998 auto. It starts fine first thing when stone cold; it starts fine when hot but if I drive it and it stands for 2-3 hours it is the devil's own job to start.
I have been told it may be an injection pump fault but I wonder if it is a malfunctioning temperature or injection sensor? An injection pump replacement is serious money so can anyone bring me comfort? If it were the pump would it work fine when both cold and hot?

The Blaupunkt radio in the car has gone off yet again. It goes blank for days on end and then of a sudden works again for a couple of weeks and then goes again. Before I part with hard earned at Halfords is there something I can do to get it back on? Read more

Driving back home through sheffield in a hire car this evening I managed to get in the "wrong" lane at the main roundabout in Sheffield (where the trams go over). Road markings and traffic lights have all changed from when I was there last. Trying to get in the "correct" lane was confronted by another driver shouting and swearing. Now I appreciate I was in the wrong but was indicating my intentions but his response was disporportionate to me being in the wrong lane.
I just went on and he disapeared behind me somewhere.
So I suppose I did right by just ignoring it but why cant people just accept mistakes are made and allow accordingly?
Appreciate any thoughts.

The number of recalls that Toyota are making at the moment should surely be a major concern to anyone that is thinking of buying one.
The latest recall is for 4000 cars in the UK - Lexus IS250 & GS350 - and requires 3.5 hours of work to replace faulty fuel pipes that are leaking fuel into the engine bay.
OK so strictly speaking these are Lexus and not Toyota but they are the same Company.
There doesn't seem to be many months go by without Toyota making some recall somewhere in Europe or the US.
I have said previously that I think they are losing their status as they try and cope with increased demand but I for one with my Corolla experiences and all this news will avoid them until I see them fixing things.
They are heading the same way as VW and MB albeit the Germans created their own demise in quality - I doubt anyone in Toyota decided to cut costs at the expense of quality but they clearly have problems. Read more

There does seem to be this battle raging between Toyota and their robots and Honda and it's Asimo. I think Asimo is more advanced at the moment and they are using some of the technology for their cars with CMBS etc.
