Hi all
Just a quick question. We are selling our car and a chap from Ireland is interested in buying it. He has agreed to pay cash (so I'm not concerned about being ripped off).
However I wondered if anyone knows what I should do about the V5. I want to fill it in and send it off to Swansea, but am wondering if you can give the registered owners details as Ireland. I don't want to give it to him as he may never register it and I'll have all the hassle of dealing with speeding tickets etc. The buyers brother is coming to look at the car tomorrow (and drive it away if he likes it).
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

hi
Was thinking of having my Audi A4 1.9 Tdi 2003 100bhp pd remapped this weekend. Have owned it for few months but i think it lacks power. ECU Remap guy reckon it will get to 140bhp.
Firm im going to is called Chipboost in Scarborough. Any views on them?
Will the remap shorten life of clutch, gearbox, engine?
Will car need to be serviced more often. current mileage is 98k and has been serviced on long life routine every 20k.
Any one had a remap done? Read more
20K service intervals are no problem in themselves.
There are more powerful versions of that engine already - may be done by bigger turbo etc, but intinsically the engine should be fine.
Of course there's pretty limited opportunity these days to use such power anyway, so the vast majority of the time the engine will be running no differently to how it is now. Being sympathetic with the engine and drivetrain (gradual acceleration, not stamping on the gas) is probably more important as the mileage increases.
Thought i'd put to the forum the above topic. Having owned a ex police car in the distant past. What's the forums thought on the merits of buying one. I get the ball rolling with the following thoughts
For
Serviced well and often with quality parts and tyres etc.
Well driven most of the time, not all policing is car chases!
High mileage but no dubious history/ownership etc
A lot cheaper in theory
Police MOT them thereselves before selling them on.
Against
Mainly white in colour, hardly anyone chooses this colour through choice.
low spec in most cases.
dashboard normally has bits missing and no radio etc. Some of which is surprisingly expensive to source if you want to return to normal.
Interior trim can take a battering from big guys in uniform getting in and out all the time.
Are they thrashed from cold?
There is an opinion that they are not serviced as well or as expensively as we might imagine.
Would appreciates the forums views on any of the above

I still maintain that an ex police car (proper car, not a little astra, etc..) is just like buying a one owner company vehicle. Certainly speaking for myself, revving from cold, 30mph is the change into 2nd point, 50mph is change into 3rd, 70-80mph change into 4th. 30-40mph over speed bumps, so whats the difference???
The main selling point of an ex police vehicle is the colour - white is becoming a rather appealing colour. Wonder what the insignia tourer looks like in white [goes off to see...].
As for the Dog Van question, why not have a look at www.expolicecar.co.uk who have a sideline in dog vans (I know, they're in Halifax, but treat it as a dayout, fantastic scenery, good pubs and a nice meal)
Came across two branches of IN 'n' OUT whilst driving through Northampton today.
They claim to service your car in 15mins using a ?pit-lane? style system. Think they've offered similar in the US before.
They have two branches in Northampton and few others around the country I think. They only offer servicing ? no suppy, fitting or sales of parts etc ? and their prices seem very competitive (currently a special offer of a full service for £79).
Any thoughts on the viability / quality of the offering? Anyone had any experience of them?
They have a website:

It does seem expensive. I use the local Ford dealer once a year for the annual service, and they do the full monty as required by the service schedule, and basic charges are not expensive. They will also know about recalls and any non-recall problems that need fixing. I should use a good independent, as the main dealer does get pricey when big work needs doing.
I recently purchased a new 207 and although I love it, am facing a few issues with the demister. My windows (both the side and front) keep on misting up in cold weather and despite having the demister on full, I'm finding it difficult to see out. Has anyone else experienced this?

I?ve not noticed any problem with the air con when it?s very cold
Air is dryer as it gets colder so it's not really a problem in continuously cold weather, but it can catch you out if it's suddenly cold overnight, having been raining the previous day (so you'd have left the system 'wet' if you run it all the time).
The a/c becomes less effective at low temps anway, but it has to turn itself off at very low temps otherwise it would freeze up.
vosa have now changed there mind over the testing of number plates, this popped up today to mot testers =
For technical reasons with immediate effect no registration plates must be
failed for wrong colour - missing supplier details postcode - BSAU
number - background overprinting - honeycomb or smilar effect background
non reflective borders - unacceptable symbols or flags until further
notice.
so if your car failed on friday it would have passed on monday !
this vosa really is a sham ! Read more
So until these new laws were dropped, that would be an MOT failure? Crazy! I bet they are back in by the time the MOT is due in Feb!
So did it pass in February?
It seems the MOT requirements for number plates have been reinstated as explained in a new document.
The old version www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repository/CONT072565.pdf has been removed (so cannot tell what was different about it) and has been replaced with www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repository/CONT073819.pdf

Just a quick question as I hope my mates are winding me up - we had to travel to Bedford today and went from M6 down A14 past Kettering to A6 - Does anyone know if the A14 round Kettering is 60 mph - there are national speed limit sign's but no other limit's signed - if it's 60 I've been done 70 OK

Whilst I admire much of what the Tomtom does it would not be capable of

Is any sat nav unit very accurate in this respect? I'm guessing the answer is no because they all get their data from one or two sources.
The cooling fan just keeps running even when the engine is shut off and will keep going until the battery is flat.
I suspect a stuck thermal switch somewhere from my experience with previous cars. I've just got the Galaxy so I'm not familiar with its systems.
The model is 1.9 TDI year 2001. Read more
Check for wiring for shorts and that the fan is free to turn before sorting out the relay.
If the relay has been overloaded to the extent of contact welding (they sometimes interlock - which is a different problem) the phosphor bronze contact leaf spring may have lost its tension due to overheating. On some VAG fan units there is a half-speed resistor inside the motor (dumbo design) which overheats and can short to ground. Is this relay box an offering from Ford or from VAG?
Both makers have fitted rubbish electrical components due to overbearing accountants.

I'm writing on behalf of my semi-distraught mother-in-law (I know .... m-in-l's - who'd have 'em?). A few weeks ago, out of the blue, she received a letter from a debt collection agency demanding £75 on behalf of NCP for failing to pay the penalty for parking on a Sunday in April in a car-park in Brighton where she shouldn't have been. She recalls using this car park, but she didn't receive any ticket so toddled off home none the wiser. However, the letter, which arrived mid-October, claims she WAS issued with a parking violation ticket which offered her the chance to pay a £25 fine. She quite categorically denies ever receiving this, and so she wrote back to the credit agency explaining this and enclosing a £25 cheque, which she would have paid had she received the ticket in the first place. She has now received a further letter simply telling her to cough up the remaining £50. She rang the agency, who advised her to ring NCP. However, NCP weren't in the slightest bit interested and fobbed her off back to the credit agency.
The issue seems to centre around the means by which she was issued with the parking ticket in the first place. She says (and I have absolutely no reason to disbelieve her - she's as straight as a dye) there was no ticket awaiting her on the car, and she received no summons etc... in the meantime. This October letter was the first she knew of it.
What should she do? She doesn't feel compelled to pay the extra £50 as she was never given a chance to pay £25 in the first place. And 6 months seems an awfully long time - is there a "time-out" like there is with speeding offences? Read more
It's called a Statutory Declaration ( that it didn't arrive ) , at my local court in North London they are free , just go to inquiries .
But the £ is stronger than euro so they cost more to them, does sound rather odd to come that way for a car.
But cars did seem dear when I went over this year, and parts were very dear, with many using the Internet to gets bits from UK, perhaps we should stop grumbling.
