During the Christmas/New Year period I'm going to have to make a significant length journey with a full load of five people which will require the rear tyre pressures to be increased from 32 psi to 46 psi. The airline at the nearest petrol station is expected to be out of order until a refit in January so I have to make alternative arrangements. I've done a test with my footpump and it took a tiring 250 strokes to do just one tyre, so I'm not keen on that one.
Could you recommend an electrically powered pump? I don't want anything too expensive because it won't get used that often.

Just bought a 1997 Corsa 1.2LS 3 door for a newly qualified driver.
One or two things to sort out. A Haynes manual is a priority.
Think the thermostat needs changing as the temperature only climbs a bit on hills.
Where is the thermostat?
Not got a handbook or manual yet. Any free downloads around?
Drives very nicely but a bit pre distressed bodyworkwise.Watch this space.

Hi all,
I think I must share my experience. The last time the timing belt was replaced on my car (Corsa B 1.4 Swing 1993) was in 2004, and I got it changed today. Meaning after 9 years! The car drive 36,000KM during these 9 years, mostly short distances, and was rarely driven for more than 1.5 hours at a time. But the car was used almost every day! I read on so many forums like this, that the timing belt for Corsa B should be replaced after 4 years in any case. Well, this is certainly not true. I may have driven easily for two more years, but just got it replaced for safety. By the way, I live in North of Norway, where average winter temperature is -10 C, and average summer temperature is +10 C. So my advice to those who have Corsa B 1.4 Swing, and do not drive the car for long distances, should not worry about changing the timing belt for at least 7 years!...
I have a May07 a6 avant with xenon and steering 'linked' lights. I travel to France twice each month and noww winter is here am using the car in the dark in France. Audi say that I cannot use headlight deflectors due to the heat generated by the lights and don't know whether there is an adjuster to switch the lights from LHD to RHD.
Nothing in the manual.
Can you help. Audi say take it in to the dealer every time I need to change. Apart from the costs, the practicalities of this are ridiculous.
Can you help?
Great car by the way. Read more
They are adjustable. There are two versions in this period. One has a lever inside the headlight unit, but you have to remove the steering fluid header tank and the airfilter the back of the head lights and the HID connector to reveal the lever if you have one. The units with out the lever are adjustable via Vag-com if you know what you are doing. Regards Peter
Does anyone have the optional factory fitted DVD sat in the new Mondy?
I'm just about to order one and would appreciate views from anyone who has one at the moment.
I'm particularly keen to know if it has Postcode lookup and TMC service.
Also, is the Bluetooth phone kit any good?
Thanks in anticipation ........

Seeing as this thread has been revived, there are some improvements thanks to later versions of the Ford satnav software. I have a Mk IV Mondeo (57) with the built in kit. The supplied DVD was as described above, but I got a free upgrade to the 2008 DVD for some reason. Most of the shortcomings above are no more. Full postcode lookup, phone list scrolling done by steering wheel buttons (viewed in instrument panel rather than on satnav screen, 3D view now available - and probably other enhancements that I can;t think of.
The traffic info (TMC) is very good, as is it's predicted ETA - often within minutes, even on long journeys! I haven't spotted any quirks in the routing.
This is now a better than average unit, mainly as it is fitted, but I still wouldn't pay for it as an extra.
I have a 2002 Focus 1.6 Ghia. Sometimes, but not always, after you turn the ignition right off the fuel gauge moves (normally very rapidly) from zero to about 2 oclock (regardless of the quantity of fuel in the tank). At the same time the temperature gauge moves to a (more realistic) position.
Is this an electrical problem, eg water in the ECU? I'd very much appreciate help. The car is operating normally - so far.

I've had a new dash cluster fitted, also recently had a new fuel guage as well, but since the nre fuel guage, we've noticed the fuel guage working differently.
I used to be able to fuel up, full tank, and needle would go over the F marker, but now, it can sometimes take in excess of 6-7 miles driving before the needle gets near to how much fuel is in the tank.
I don't want to take the car to a Ford Dealer, but might run it up to a vehicle electrician to have a look at, but is it a case of changing the fuel guage sensor, if so, is this a big job and a costly one?
I was wondering why it seems that the Audi A4 with the 2.0 TDI 140 engine is so much more thirsty than other VAG cars with the same engine ? My car has now done 10.5K miles and compared to my old TDI 130 the fuel consumptions is still fairly unexciting. I get 44-45 MPG on a motorway run if I'm really gentle, whereas the old TDI 130 on the same journeys would do 50-52 mpg. The thing that seems strange to me is talking to A3 and Passat drivers with the same engine, they seem to have never had issues with fuel consumption. My cars MPG was awful until I had done at least 6K miles.
How does everyone else get on with their VAG 2.0 TDI motor ? Read more
Returned earlier today from a 400 mile trip to Worcestershire/Shropshire border country from Yorkshire - steady journey to Ironbridge on the way using M1, A38 then A5 cross country followed by A and B roads to south of Ludlow. Motorway all the way back. I've just filled up again and it took 38 litres - 47.789 mpg.
SWMBO is going to test drive one tomorrow- any advice on what to look for, ownership experiences?? Read more
Just an update on this -
The car has been purchased - Smart Roadster on a 53 Reg, Blue, Leather seats, FSH and with 12k on the clock. Free MOTS for life, a service and full MOT before we picked it up and a service for free in 6 months time and a two year warranty. Petrol and car mats chucked in as well, bought for £5k which I think was a decent price.
Better still, I am insured on it as well :-D
Sorry to bring this back from the dead after so long but I am getting the same issue with my 1996 Citroen Saxo 1.5D which I believe has the same TUD5 engine. An after doing a google search this is the only post I could fine with the same symptoms.
The car starts first time almost in an instant but when driven or reved white smoke comes out of the exhaust, poor idle, hesitation when driven . After about 2-3 mins everything is fine. Only does it when cold! Also the mpg has drop from an average of 50-55mpg down to 40 mpg!
I have replaced the glow plugs, checked the pre and post heat timing and they appear fine. I have also checked the temperature sensor which the post heat timer works off and this gives no resistance reading when cold but when hot I get a reading although can't remember exactly what so I am guessing this is also working fine.
I'm not too familiar with diesel engines and fueling but I take it the white smoke is down to unburnt diesel getting into exhaust manifold and then being ignited there?
I'm now stuck for suggestions so all help welcome.

Just found this (old) thread while considering my own 1.5d TUD5 / Bosch VE Saxo issues.
Considering when he played with the advance, doesn't this sound like a timing issue?...
I am trying to diagnose a missfire fault and I want to disable the fuel pump. Please can some one tell the exact location of the fuel pump fuse?

Thanks Screwloose,
It was fuse 6 in the Maxi fuse box. After checking the sparks and doing a compression test I concluded that the misfire was caused by a faulty coil pack. I swapped the coil pack for a new one and the misfire was cured.
Hello,
I have a problem with my oil in my VW Golf reg 53.
For the past year or so the oil light comes on about every 1000-2000 miles.
Every time I check the oil, it has gone down to low, so I am filling it back up to the max point. I am using the correct oil as I checked with VW garage, and even 2 months after a oil change from the VW service, the light came on. I have taken the car to two seperate garages asking if there is a leak, however nothing can be found, but it is costing me loads in oil (about £20 a bottle!) and its making me angry-no one will help me!Has anyone had a simular experience??
slt - engine type might help - PU

My wife has a 1.4 petrol golf 2000 model which she has had from new I change the oil and filter every 5000 to 6000 miles even though it gives the option of variable computer controlled service intervals. It uses a little oil between sevices but not very much. At a guess it might need 0.5 litre between services.
As a principle I believe in shorter service intervals.
I currently also have an omega with over 120,000 miles which has enjoyed the same regime.
I would be careful not to run the engine oil so low that the oil warning light comes on.
not sure I'd fancy inflated digits.... :)
