Hey guys i have a golf mk2 series 1, its a sweeet little runner, only 32,000 on the clock I am just concerned that it is running tooo hot? The needle comes up quicky to 90degrees (right on the light) then............. it hovers between going over it sometimes so the whole needle is past the light. sometimes it will stay there others not but most of the time will be over the light. should i be concerned, and if so what shall i do????

Does anyone know if it is possible to have an LPG conversion where the filler nozzle is hidden from view , as some that I have seen look a bit untidy? Read more
I am in Australia and run a 4lt Ford Falcon wagon with LPG fitted as a dual fuel conversion. It has the gas filler under the flap beside the petrol filler. All neat and tidy. You need to talk to the conversion people about that before you decide who to get to do it. Another thing to talk to them about is what sort of fuel gauge they supply. The older ones just have 4 lights which gradually go out as your gas goes down. Not very satisfactory. I am told that newer ones have a proper fuel gauge. Mine has the lights so I use the trip odometer to tell me when it is getting low.

this morning being the first frost of winter my 307 struggled to start straight up, it seemed like one or two of the heater plugs were not working. (had this problem once with my 405) i am going to fit some new ones tomorrow is it straightforward? also when my wife started it a few hours after the first start she said the heater plug light came back on momentarily, is this some sort of signal to say they are faulty? would appreciate any ideas before i buy new heater plugs in case its not them, also once its been started its ok. sorry forgot to say its a 110bhp 2.0 hdi, also to add to the original post, the car started this morning with no hesitation at all, the ambient temp according to car dashboard readout was 11deg C. yesterdays problem starting from cold was similar to a petrol engine starting with a plug or a lead off.
Apparently launched in January 07 , I have yet to see one on the road. I assume it's been a bit of a flop. Anybody else seen one in the flesh?
Also tonight saw a Proton Satria Neo (I believe) for the first time , thought it looked quite good(although the light was fading).Does anyone have any knowledge of these? Read more
I think the difficulty in this "personal car with a bit of class" segment is notoriously fickle - you are aiming at people who could chose something more practical but instead buy something more distinctive/aspirational/of the moment. At the moment I'd imagine the Mini is picking up most of these sales and the A3 or 1series is hoovering the rep user chooser element. The idea of a volvo for thrusting young execs in the UK is still a harder sale. In the US Volvos were always marketed and also perceived to be the sort of thing that architects/designer/ad agency types bought. here there are more solidly middle class.
i have a 95 405 1.8 , if i use the indicator left or right after you have gone round the corner and the indicator has gone of the flasher unit/relay? keeps on clicking intermittently,
can anyone help.

There was an earlier thread that was pulled, understandably, for mentioning specifics that recently happened and i'm not trying to repeat that...but......recent events have sparked numerous t.v. comments re police pursuits. What do backroomers think of the subject in general (i.e. not mentioning the recent stuff, which will obviously be subject to enquiries and/or court cases).
my view is that:
-training should be 'top dollar' and not fudged as it can be now, often due to cost
- the equipment has to be top dollar i.e. the pursuing cop has something that is adequate to
catch up again should they wish to back off and give the offender the opportunity to slow a bit
(often not the case due to half baked equipment.... but that is what is taught)
- tactics need to be reviewed (as current tactics of terminating the pursuit if too dangerous or
pursuing until there's a crash or chased vehicle runs out of fuel) means determined crooks
will just drive like idiots when they've committed a crime, hoping the cop will either get called
off by ther control room or the cop calls it off themselves.
Control room staff can often be civilian staff and not know the pressures of the cop. Cops cost more money so it's a cheaper option.
The Yanks for example use the PIT manoeuvre (Precision Intervention Technique) which if anyone who has ever driven a dodgem knows is a way of spinning something else out. Furthermore they have more access to helicopters.
It virtually goes without saying that deterrent prison sentences nowadays are not available, but would BR'ers be willing to pay a bit more for the above? Read more
I've watched a few tv programmes featuring real life police high speed chases and its not a comforting thing to see. The chased driver will do anything to avoid the pursuing police car, mounting pavements, overtaking at high speed forcing oncoming traffic to get out of the way, etc etc. I can't see any real solution to it. I want the criminals caught but not at the expense of killing or injuring an innocent person
anyone know which relays are for the dim/dip on one of these?
the switch that boosts the volts from 5ish to full load doesn't seem to be working and i'm thinking it must live in the relay/s??
so the car has failed MOT and Citroen don't seem to have a relay diagram in car and there is no haynes manual in town....not even in the library!!..bummer
not gettin hands dirty today so if anyone can point me in right direction before I have to rip out all the relays it would be much appreciated...
its had its earth points cleaned and the relays are under the steering wheel and a few in engine compartment fusebox but no diagram tellin whats what...
basically the dim/dip isnt bright enough..sides and main are fine
only 5 volts going to dim/dip wiring but I think this is normal as there is an automatic switch somewhere that increases this when dim/dip is on but seems switch may be faulty and not increasin load meanin lights stay dim......??? hmmm

Certainly is OK to bypass dim dip. Vauxhall dealers were doing this at service time in the early nineties on the quiet after a few caught fire! Only evidence was that they had been rummaging around in driver's side foot well probably behind side kick panel & no more dim dip... or interference on the cassette player funnily enough.

Sirs,
Strong objection to PCN *********
I have been sent a video still of my car encroaching on a bus lane in the eastbound carriageway in The Vale, Acton, a few yards before the traffic light at the junction with Askew Road. The notice informed me that ?the incident? had been recorded on video.
There was no ?incident?. The bus lane ends suddenly, without the usual diagonal dotted line, some yards before the junction. It resumes, with the dotted line, after the junction.
I remember the occasion well. There were several vehicles, five or six, waiting in the right hand lane to turn right into Askew Road. It is a junction where traffic turning right in either direction is often delayed. I drove across a corner of the bus lane to reach the non-bus lane part of the nearside lane before the traffic light. There were no buses, taxis or other authorised vehicles in the bus lane. I was not driving down the bus lane. I simply crossed a corner of it for a few yards. If there really is a video, it will confirm this. It will also confirm the presence of vehicles waiting to turn right into Askew Road.
Of course I fully understand the need to keep bus lanes clear for buses. I don?t drive in them. But regulations of this sort need to be applied intelligently. The Uxbridge Road under its various names is narrow, busy and with many junctions. What is to be gained by terrorising drivers intending to continue in a straight line into queuing endlessly behind right-turning traffic? Nothing but more congestion I would think.
More to the point in this case is the decision to crop the video still so that the right-turning traffic is not seen. This smacks of sharp practice to me. Does Ealing think we are all morons or chavs?
I will not pay this penalty if I can help it. I am prepared to defend this point of view in court if necessary. Of course the famous video will need to be produced in evidence. It may well be that the road markings in the Vale need to be reviewed. But in any case this kind of enforcement, whether unthinking or, more likely it seems to me, money-grubbing and cynical, wastes everyone?s time as well as being deeply irritating.
Yours faithfully,
Hi,
Would like to find the road test for the 03-on Scenic.
Typing 'scenic road test' in the site search brings up over 500 results, and is fairly useless.
How can I do it better and find what I'm looking for?
Thanks,

Hey everyone
I have just bought a secondhand 306, as above, and have a couple of questions.
Does anybody know if this model had side airbags fitted as standard.
I am asking because on the door side of the 2 front seats there is a little rubber plaque that says "Airbag" and has a picture of an airbag deploying from the side.
I was reading the users manual after I got the car home and it says that if you have side airbags and the side airbag light on the dash does not come on for a few seconds when you turn on the engine then you need to get your car to a garage immediately.
Well the side airbag light does not come on, just the regular airbag light. Is the airbag stamp on the side of the seats just standard whether the bag is fitted or not or does this possibly mean the bags are there but are faulty?
I am also a little anxious as there appears to be white staining around the interior of the car in places, looks like a small tin of paint exploded and peppers certain areas. This are mainy around the doors and the center of the car. I am starting to think maybe the airbags have deployed in the past and not been checked since. Does this sound like a possibility from what Ive described? Or could these jsut be paint marks?
The second question is much simpler, does this model have an alarm fitted as standard? The users guide seems to suggest you need a second fob to activate and deactivate the alarm but I did not recieve one. Is there anyway to check for an alarm?
Thanks in advance for any help you can all give.
Steve
