My daughter's Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 petrol, 53 plate, has a problem with its electrics. For the third time now, she or her husband has been driving when the display (speedo, fuel gauge, date etc) goes out.(Time display stays on)It hasn't stopped the engine running, but once the car was stopped, left for a few minutes, and restarted, it displays a few warning lights and then it all settles down. She was advised to take it to a Citroen dealer who would look at it. She took it to a Citroen main dealer in Northampton this morning, and the car behaved perfectly, and their electronic kit showed no fault. They advised her to bring it back next time, which is only a 35 mile round trip.

Does anyone have any ideas ? Read more

A non original radio/cd system was responsible for the battery going flat after two days on my C5, 'it was waking up' the Ecu about once a minute, disconnected it and problem gone. If you isolate all the wires except the 12v+ switched and 12v permanant feeds and earth it shouldn't cause any problems.

Hello,
I have a 1998 VW Passat and when I go to lock or unlock the car with the key the whole thing stays twisting (clockwise if I open it & anti-clockwise if I close it). Sometimes it locks and sometimes it doesnt depending on the number of times I turn it. Luckily I can lock or unlock from the boot ;-()

Has anyone ever seen this before or even better know how to fix it?

Thanks,

A mate has asked me to help source a newer estate to replace their 406 estate (2.0 ltr petrol 135k). As the 406 as proved generally OK he is drawn to the 407. As they do 20k plus miles per year the diesels seem appropriate. ie: the 2.0 HDi 136hp. Is this a good idea (the car will be kept for several years) or can anyone recommend alternatives please? Depreciation has put paid to looking after a car IMHO.
I used to 'nurture' cars to last 16years or so, but why bother when you can pick up a near new low miler mainstream motor with the latest safety kit etc for less than £10K?
I think cars will be maintenance free in the years to come, throw away, the Japenese own cars for a short period ( then flog them to us!).
With long warranties there will be no need for the 'average ' owner( with money of course) to bother ever taking a car to be repaired out of their pocket.
Need to save up for the new car though- but wait til the Chinese start supplying decent cars, it will be like the other goods we buy and throw away when worn.
I may be wrong.

Hi all;

My old 406 (1998 2.1 Turbo Diesel) has developed a fault which could be very serious. There is a general lack of power, and if the revs go above 3000, it can go into overspeed and shuts down. Rather embarrassing in the outside lane.

I've had the local specialist put it on his diagnostic machine, and the Fault Code '202' comes up, which apparently indicates an injector pump problem. A replacement pump is £1000 plus, and I'm advised not to try a second hand pump as each pump is electronically coded to a particular car.

Any wizards out there know more about Code 202 and if there is a potential fix? I know it could be expensive but the devil you know and all that....

Hi, no solution to your problem but I have a the same car as you and now & then when I start it up the engine revs 'hunt'. This cures itself once I get going but I'm worried now I've read your posting. It's bound to get worse so if you get any news I'll be grateful if you can pass it on to me .

Does anyone know the course of manufacture of the new VW Jetta after it leaves Mexico?
My friend had ordered one some 9/10 weeks ago and apparently it has ended up in Emden, Germany. Does this mean that it is there for further 'finishing' or is it there for shipment to the UK?

At one stage this week, his dealer told him that they had 'lost' the car or could at least, not trace its current whereabouts, which does not seem very satifactory to me. Perhaps things will resolve themselves in the next few days

Yesterday I saw 2 devices on tripods on a bridge just a few miles after the Severn Crossing on the Welsh side.
I only got a brief look at them, but they didn't look like speed cameras from what I could see. ANPR devices perhaps ?? Read more

Anyone know what the ANPR cameras that check vehicles crossing the Forth Road Bridge are for?

I heard they were being installed at "choke points" the local paper mentioned they wanted to install them on the Humber Bridge as well.
