I have a peugeot 307 with alloys and locking wheel nuts, one of the nuts is refusing to move with the "nut key", it just pushes the "key " off the nut, has anybody got any ideas how to remove it without damaging the wheel? they are factory fitted and are set back into the wheel by about 3/4" so it is hard to get a chisel in to try and persuade it round.

We've had floods hereabouts and I doubt Mrs H will have been particularly timid on her commute. We both know where the air intake is. She rang me up to say the temperature gauge (not really a gauge but a collection of yellow, orange and red lights) was showing maximum when she started the car after work. It showed cold, as it would when the car had been standing, then all the lights came on with a sound alarm. The car was clearly not overheating and there was liquid in the expansion bottle. When she got home, the gauge showed 3 lights (normal after a short run) and about a minute later showed all the lights with the alarm. It's trying to tell me something, but what?

Well I've got over my fit of the vapours and we've got a working C3 again. The radiator cooling fan had developed an internal fault causing a short after a few seconds running. The so-called maxi-fuse feeding the fan was blown; this puts the temp. lights on. The temperature sensor replacement was a red herring; but I felt it worth the £10 gamble at the level of knowledge I had a week or two ago. The rad. fan has been replaced with a modified version; there's now a 45 amp relay strapped to a hose that wasn't there before.
My guess is that Mrs H, having been stuck in a queue waiting for traffic to clear a stretch of flooded road , tackled the deep water too quickly and while the rad. fan was running, either submerging it or otherwise causing it to fail.

Hope there's someone out there who knows the answer to this.
Is it a legal requirement for a new car to be fitted with a warning triangle?

As a resident in Spain I can confirm the accuracy of the last posting. Hi-Vis jackets are also compulsory as is the carrying of a full set of spare bulbs.
Guardia Civil Trafico cops (AKA The Green Police, from the colour of their uniforms) are pretty much a law unto themselves in interpretation of traffic rules. NEVER argue with one, or you just might find yourself in the local nick without the option.
The Guardia`Civil is actually a military unit, with military discipline and military training. Oddly enough they are paid Armed Forces rates of pay which are a lot less than the National Police or Policia Local.
BTW. the motorcycle Trafico units always operate in pairs, so if you see one you can bet his mate isn't far away.

Hello
I have a weird problem with the remote (infrared) locking mechanism. All of sudden it stopped working. The battery is ok I have tried 2 new. I have also tried to switch the circuit boards with one taken from another keyfob. And it still won't work. The central locking system works well when using the door lock but not when using the remote.
I have been told that sometimes when changing batteries or pressing the open/close buttons erratically the transmitter and receiver won't "see" each other anymore and one has to code the key from scratch. This should be done by inserting the key and turning it to ignition without starting the engine (I'm a Dane so the technical terms are a little hard to get right :) ...). Then one should hold the lock-button (the big one) for 10 secs. This procedure should code the key so it can communicate with the receiver. But again this does not work for me either. I was told that cars having the Pats system can't be coded by home-mechanics? I don't know whether I have Pats or not? Can't see it anywhere...
But this leaves me with either a keyfob that cannot be coded by myself or a faulty receiver. Before I dismantle the receiver assembly could someone be kind to give me some advice with what else I could be looking at? Perhaps a different coding procedure than the one described? How do I check if I have the Pats system? On the circuit board from the key there are some engravings like "Texton" and "Fuba T". Don't know if that helps .... Also the key is a two-button key without a led. Big button for locking, small button for unlocking.
It's a Peugeot 306 from 2001, 1.6L (100PS version) 5door.
TIA

The 'squashy' matting (in this case some thick velvet) certainly helps, but reading some of the other post's I think the solution is to go back to a stove top gas heated kettle. Our previous one was plastic and equally as loud as the current stainless steel one.
I've a suspicion that the problem lies in the design of the newish jug shaped kettles being louder than the old (for the want of a better word) 'kettle' shaped kettles.
Any more thoughts on the subject gratefully received.
Hello - I'm new to this forum, and I joined to see if anyone can help me with my Focus REAR passenger footwell leak. I've had a leak into the front passenger footwell which was fixed by replacing the pollen filter thingy, but now the rain is getting into the REAR off-side passenger footwell and I can't see where it can be coming in. I've sat in the car for a while and felt all around but to no avail. Short of pulling up all the carpets, does anyone have a clue what I can do about it? All the door and window seals look OK - the drain holes in the bottom of the doors are all un-blocked and it is not getting into the front passenger footwell, which I guess rules out the pollen filter thing.
I'm SO cheesed off with this car leak that I will NEVER EVER again buy another Ford. I had a ford Escort which leaked in the boot, a ford Granada before that which also leaked in the boot and now this piece of junk!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!
Kind regards.

Thanks for this suggestion - I've tried to get the door trim off, but got stuck at the window-winder handle - how do I get that off please?!
Some of us can still remember the Unipart advert: 'the answer's "yes" - now what's the question?'!
Can anyone tell me whether Unipart service items - plugs, filters etc. - are of reasonable quality? Are they OE manufacturer's re-badged parts, or made specifically to Unipart's specs?
I'm not even sure if the brand exists anymore, but parts come up fairly frequently on a certain internet auction site....... Read more
Hi,
Not 100% sure but I believe it will probably be a federal Mogul one - (Fram) probably the worlds largest (they make champion plugs). Surprisingly there aren't that many filter manufacturers on the planet and those of any size generally produce reasonable product.
Unipart filters are good value for money and top quality - they have to be otherwise we wouldn't sell hundreds of thousands a year.

I have a new neighbour 3 doors up and he has a customised Impreza. Now when he starts engine it is left idling for a while before he drives away. Both whilst it is idling and driving, the noise it makes is ridiculous. You can feel it vibrate through the house, it is enough to waken you.
This is exhaust / engine noise, not radio!
Is there rules on how noisy cars can be? Read more
There is a railway near our house and we get a lot of noise from trains, which I don't mind EXCEPT that there is a short section of worn old clickety clack track that hasn't been replaced by welded track and the train wheels make very loud noises as they go over the joints.
Looking for some advise on the running costs a 2.0 WRX STi PPP. What can I expect to pay for services etc.
I'll be doing roughly 20k per year so what kind of maintanence costs are involved, for example brakes, tyres and anything else? Read more
I didn't notice the 20k per year in the original post. I'd agree, not the ideal car for that. I'd have kittens leaving it in a carpark anywhere and hard suspension on a long run would be very tiring.
How about a Legacy 3 litre Spec B? Comfortable despite 18'' wheels, discreet, fast enough (0-60 6.5 secs), good handling although not quite in the Impreza's class but better than anything else of the size for the money. I get 30 mpg on a long run driven sensibly now it's run in, dropping to an average of 25-26 mpg in local use and using the power. All the toys including a good built-in sat nav and you can get them relatively cheaply. Well screwed together and reliable, Good discounts are available. Have a look on www.subaru.co.uk and use the used car locator.
Just thought I'd add the advice from my recent thread on a stuck security nut on a Prelude.
I took the advice to hammer an old socket onto it and try to turn it with something bigger than the standard wheelbrace.
It worked fine - except for the pulled arm muscle.
Now I know how easy it is for the toerags to get these nuts off I don't think I'll bother with them again.
